My prescription for Nurtec ODT 75 mg, taken every other day for migraine prevention, had an active prior authorization approved on June 18, 2025, valid through June 18, 2026. Beginning in December 2025, I was repeatedly told by Ponchatoula Family Pharmacy that no authorization had been received and that my physician had not responded. Based on that information, I contacted my doctor multiple times over several months, only to be reassured that the authorization was already approved and active. Despite this, the pharmacy continued to deny the medication. After months of back-and-forth, I requested that the claim be fully reviewed and reprocessed rather than relying on the initial rejection message. It was then discovered that the prior authorization had been active the entire time. Once properly re-run, it was approved immediately. This was not a physician delay. It was a failure to verify and process an existing authorization. As a former pharmacy technician, I understand that automated rejections require verification with the insurer and appropriate escalation when needed. Those steps were not taken until I pushed for them. As a result, I went months without my prescribed preventive migraine therapy and experienced debilitating migraines while caring for my special-needs child. Preventive migraine treatment directly impacts daily functioning and neurological stability. I ultimately transferred my prescriptions and chose not to continue patronizing this pharmacy. Medication access requires diligence and accurate communication, and this experience did not reflect either. I hope this prompts improved verification procedures so other patients do not experience similar interruptions in care.

Staff was friendly - even during odd hours of the night - "You have no toiletries?" (Clearly she knew we were tourists.) We explained the whole missing bags thing to clear that up. They had everything we needed - clothes included - because who knows how long before our bags get delivered! Prices were reasonable - none of the tourists rates some places charge. What made it better is that it was only a couple of blocks away from our hotel. We returned a couple more times during the week for more basic stuff - mostly snacks, water and other rehydrating drinks. What I mostly appreciated is how conveniently located it is. In the situation we were in, we were grateful for it being where it is!

The pharmacists at CVS are extremely friendly and helpful and always tip me off when there may be a lower cost alternative to one of my medications. I usually don't have to wait any longer than 5 minutes for my prescriptions, even if I am told there is a longer wait. And one if my prescriptions not covered by my insurance is half the price at CVS as it was at Walgreens despite having a Walgreens prescription savings card. While it's true that some over the counter products are cheaper at Walgreens or Walmart, CVS is the best chain drugstore you can find in the Hammond area when it comes to your prescription needs. And if you sign up for a free savings card, you get cash back that you can use on your next visit.

If you've been to one Walgreens, you've kind of been to them all, but this one surprised me by keeping its Advil locked up in plastic cases while leaving its entire supply of Sudafed out. The case on my Advil was large and unwieldy, making it slightly more difficult to shoplift. Seems like a wash, though, with the added cost of locking up individual products. At least it was easy to grab the Advil without assistance and check out at the register, where an employee quickly unlocked my purchase. Anyway, that Advil came in handy once I engaged in my premeditated bouts of drunken revelry. I have no particular love for Walgreens, but I'm glad I came across this one when I did.
