This is a good old American family restaurant, western themed, serving breakfast all day. Solid food, good service. It was great after a hard day's work. read more

Everything was great from the service to the food so give them a try! Sport local business, thanks again

Very standard Midwest highway stop. Pretty slow day, not many people, not a good sign. Very quiet. Food was standard without any bells and whistles. Only place so far that I can find eggs Benedict in the area besides the chain restaurants. Down side was it didn't taste fresh. Sauce was thick and heavy. Had a salad bar which I have not seen in a while. Out of OJ. Kinda felt like I was back in the 80's but in a good way. Place was clean and neat, just a bit lost in time. read more

Vintage and traditional Midwest restaurant that has established since who knows when. The food is very traditional American cuisine. Sandwiches are ok, tomato soup has chunks of tomatoes in a very milky broth . Interesting taste. Their salad bar has cherry salad, pasta salad, potato salad, etc.Just a very cute vintage space. The younger staff is super friendly and easy to chat. It's a fun place to experience old school food read more

To the owner Dean: I hope you see this, because we've always respected you and enjoyed coming here--but your front host is driving people away. This is not the first time we've had issues with her, but today was the last straw. The older lady with glasses, and long gray hair. We waited over 10 minutes while she ignored us and rang up customer after customer--including people who walked up well after we did. No greeting, no acknowledgment, no explanation. Just being flat-out dismissed. We stood there waiting for over 10 minutes with no acknowledgment. I finally said, "We're leaving--you're so rude!" because it made no sense that she kept cashing people out instead of seating us, even though we had clearly been waiting. When I came back in and asked to speak to the owner (who we've met before and is always very kind), she outright refused. I asked multiple times, and each time she told me no. I explained how unprofessional it was to keep helping people who arrived after us, and her response was, "If I seat you, I'd have to set you up, and I don't want to make them wait. I'm going to cash them out. " That logic made no sense. So it's okay to make us wait instead? I asked, "Why didn't you ask a server or someone from the back to help? That's what we do where I work. We acknowledge people and take care of them." No response that made any sense, just continued to argue with me and it got heated. It was absolutely ridiculous how she kept arguing with me over us waiting so long and her continuance of cashing out. Where I work it is who is in line in order of walking up. Her logic made no sense at all. Then to blatantly ignore my request to speak to the owner. Then as I'm walking out the door she offers a manager. I had asked multiple times and you kept arguing with me! I said I had enough of you I'm never coming back. What made it worse was that she continued to argue with me instead of trying to resolve the issue or even just apologize. The whole situation left a really bad impression, and honestly, it seems like she's not suited for a customer-facing role. We love this place and have always enjoyed the food and the owner, but this kind of treatment makes us say we aren't coming back. I will say I've had friends, co-workers, and family say the same thing about her. I'm sincere when saying we aren't coming back. read more

Went with family at 5pm on a Friday night. 1 waitress never acknowledged us standing there waiting to be seated. Went pass us twice. Only 2 tables at supper time should tell you everything. We turned around and walked out!! read more

Wonderful owner run restaurant! Our party of three visited on a Saturday morning. We quickly found a spot in the big parking lot out front. The restaurant was crowded and our wait to be seated was about 10 minutes. The interior of this western style restaurant was full of character with wooden walls and articles such as windows from North Dakota. The vibe was comfortable and social. The menu contained a good variety of homestyle cooked foods. We chose an egg white omelette with toast, oatmeal, the salad bar, and the eggs, hash brown and bacon platter. Since it was crowded, the food took a little longer than expected to make it to the table but since we were busy conversing, it wasn't a problem. The food was tasty and of decent portion. The multi-user, single gender restrooms were clean and spacious. Service was very friendly and helpful. The owner was very personable. read more

This is a breakfast staple of Minot. My family and I absolutely love our weekend breakfast here. If you're going on a busy Saturday or Sunday morning, you'll wait may be a bit long. But I can promise you it's worth every minute you wait. This is a true breakfast like in grandma's kitchen! We love our Homesteaders read more

Good homemade stick to your ribs food. Pat our server, who's in her 70's and just back after double knee replacement. Greeted us with a smile and joked along with us. Bonus. The old style coffee mugs can be purchased to take home. read more

If you love mom-and-pop restaurants with a rustic, country feel loaded with elderly people at any given time of the day, you'll love this place. This is an extremely family friendly place that all members of the family can find something filling on the menu. From lunch to dinner options, the menu is a cornucopia of country cooking. However, the only caveat I have is the salad bar. It's very limited and at sometimes scarce. Nevertheless, this place is great for a cold day or a summer luncheon. Go and enjoy the western ambiance. read more

Quick breakfast on a Saturday while in town. Food came out good timing from the place of the order. Seemed under staffed but those that were working was really doing their jobs. I had the homesteaders that came with 2 big fluffy pancakes along with 1 egg, i added 2 more, and 2 strips of bacon. Clean food wholesome and came out hot. Atmosphere seem pretty kool, plenty of people coming in and eating there. Prices were fair for the most part. Place could use some renovations but it was kool. read more

The 2 stars are for the service. Otherwise it would just be one star. Coffee was week. Pancakes were tasteless. Ham and eggs were grossly overcooked. Hashbrowns were burned. read more

Can't possibly give this place enough stars I'd give them 200 if it were possible. It's been around since I was little, and I can't wait to go back when I'm in town. They have the best cookies that you will ever have. The food just brings back memories of growing up. Classic Midwestern soul food. The manager Dean is so incredibly kind and made it that much more enjoyable. Knowing that somebody cares so much about their business just makes me want to go back every day! Thank you so much for being here for everybody to love so much. Much love, read more

Decided to try Homsteader's based on the "good" reviews on Trip Advisor. Mistake. The restaurant itself is old, out dated and dirty. The server was nice, but less than enthusiastic to see that customers were satisfied. The Husband ordered the Boneless Ribeye. It was pitiful! I posted pics check them out. After all the talk on Trip Advisor about the "good home cooking" style food I decided to try the Chicken Fried Steak and Mashed Potatoes. The Chicken Fried Steak was REALLY greasy and the Mashed Potatoes tasted like boiled mashed potatoes (no seasoning, no butter, no milk) just plain boiled and mashed. It was so bad I sent the plate back and just had the salad. The salad bar was small but did have fresh veggies and a pretty good pasta salad. My son ordered the Fried Fish and fries meal, he said it was pretty good. Again, food pics are posted. Check them out. Sent food back, not satisfied. Won't go back. read more

November 27, 2011 Sunday - breakfast 10:15 AM 7 adults and a small child Atmosphere - 5 stars Food - 3 stars Service - 4 stars Background - The big family Sunday breakfast outing. Atmosphere - Rustic restaurant on the lines of Cracker Barrel but not so cheesy. Food Appetizer - None with breakfast. Main Course - The Denver Skillet was not served in a skillet. The cheese was barely melted on the top and it was in long strips, not shredded. The hash browns were lightly done and still greasy on the bottom of the dish covered in the rest of the food. Dessert - None needed after stealing food off other plates. Service - It is always hard dealing with a large group. When you are serving coffee you and my face is buried in the menu you do not need to slide the creamers in between my face and the menu to place in on the table. Ask me; get my attention to move so you can get it on the table. I was not even drinking coffee. They did split the check, and our waitress asked us if she needed to do that. Future - Maybe for dinner read more

I stopped in on a slow Sunday morning and immediately the service was excellent. I ordered the 2 egg breakfast and it was perfect. The hash browns were crispy and still chewy. It was a quiet welcoming atmosphere that I wish I could visit every day in whatever city I'm in. read more

This place is the pits. We waited 20 mins for a water refill and we only got the water after we asked for it. Food took forever and was cold when it got here. Philly cheesesteak was dry and had hardly any filling, cheese burger was burnt, and even the chicken fried steak was missing it's gravy. We asked for gravy for the steak and it took 15 mins , which at that time it was already eaten. The waitress brought out the gravy and apologized for the lateness stated she "had to microwave it." What?! Slow service, she was nice but clearly overwhelmed. Food was definitely a miss, I only give it two stars because it was slightly better than Taco Bell. read more

I have no complaints! We waited a few minutes to be seated. There was plenty of seating in the waiting area. The restaurant is relatively small, and we were seated in a booth. Our waitress brought us water with our menus. I ordered a coffee and got a huge pot of piping hot coffee. I ordered the hot beef sandwich. It was plain white bread with a few pieces of beef between and smothered in gravy, with a small scoop of mashed potatoes in the middle of each sandwich piece. It was served within minutes of ordering and was flavorful. The burger was served on regular white bread. My mate said it was good. We didn't get the salad bar, but it was small and clean. Everything looked fresh. The restroom is clean, but badly needs an air freshener. The only negative thing I have to say is that the carpet under the tables badly needs a deep clean. The dust caked up in the corners would have made my allergies go crazy if I was seated there. Thankfully, we had a booth where there is no carpeting. Our waitress was efficient and attentive. Our bill was reasonable. Overall, we had a very nice time here. read more

Come here if you have no tastebuds. We went here with a party of 10, one of our guests never even received their meal, unacceptable. The food was tasteless and bland, that must be why mainly older people flock to this place. read more

Decided to eat here on Black Friday. Similarly to other restaurants in Minot, the staff seems to be undermanned. There was a longer than normal wait to be seated. There also seem to be a strange odor. I'm not sure if it was just someone from the line of people waiting to pay the bill up front or the restaurant itself. We were pleasantly was surprised with how good the breakfast food was: pancakes, chicken fried steak, hash browns, and eggs were all cooked perfectly. Very tasty b-fast spot. read more

Delicious food accompanied with the worst service ever! We were calling out for more napkins and they repeatedly ignored us. (We heard them chatting and giggling on the other side of a wall) Also, we barely had a refill when our meal was already over, we were thirsty throughout most of our meal. We were a party of 7 with 3 kids and we were literally the only customers, in the restaurant, at 3 in the afternoon and we still had trouble getting quick service. If it wasn't for the popcorn shrimp that i constantly crave, we would never go back. read more

Very family friendly restaurant. I love the interior decorations of this place--it really gives you that frontier country type of feel. The food is priced decently and the wait staff was kind. The have a great all you can eat salad and soup buffet that was perfect for me because i was craving some veggies. I also got the corn goulash--this was excellent; the whole family started eating my soup and almost left me with none. The restaurant is also voted best family restaurant in Minot! read more

For me and probably for the rest of the world Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! So, coffee should be the priority on any restaurant but not here! You know the taste of Minot water so the coffee is like tea and got the sour taste! Nasty!!! They're all very nice but need more waitress love the Steak and eggs, the pancake, omelettes home cooked. I bought a coconut cream pie for Christmas and it was very dry and had a poor taste l. I love coconut cream pie. What a disappointment.

This place is amazing. A perfect place for a good home cooked meal to remind you of small town life. It reminded me of my childhood. I had the steak and my wife had the salad, both were excellent. Unfortunately had to rate 3 stars could've got 2 stars if it wasn't for service was great! Foods came quickly. Pretty quickly for deep-fried chicken breakfast. If you're craving down home American style food, this is the place for you! I had the chicken cordon bleu sandwich and it didn't disappoint. Everyone I was with raved about the salad bar but honestly, it's nothing spectacular however, it does offer a variety of typical salad bar selections. The decor creates a very cozy and "at home on the prairie" feel, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the service is quick.
