1. Many, if not all, of the frozen yogurt machines would build up mold inside of the yogurt and while the employees worked hard to prevent that from happening and i went as far as telling them to close the shop, they ignored it and continued to sell.
2. The hot fudge machine. A metal container of fudge would sit in a heated machine filled with water that was rusty and would drip into the fudge and i made them aware of the situation and they said "you're not doing your job by cleaning the machine when it needs to be." I'm not sure how many are aware that rust cannot be cleaned from metal, but they continue to sell that as well without getting a new machine to fix the hazard. *I reported the business to OSHA and the health department to try and handle it myself but Jason made his employees deep clean the building when he heard there was going to be a safety inspection.
3. They, Jason and Rita (the owners), have approximately 20 cameras that record audio (which is illegal in the state of Ca) just in the back of the building alone. They monitor the cameras 24/7 and if they see something they don't like, or something of the sort, they call the landline and legitimately yell, scream, and cuss at you. For example, I received a call from Rita and she yelled saying "there is crumbs on the counter, and you're not doing your job." While she was correct about the crumbs on the counter, i was currently in the back cutting strawberries because we were out at the time and thought that was more important for the sales and the customers.
4. They would schedule 1 employee on some days working an 8-9 hour shift by themselves and we would get in trouble if we were caught having a seat in the back and eating a snack. We were not able to take a 30 minute lunch break or a 10 minute break because we were by ourselves. So we were left to work 8+ hours without a break and would be called and yelled at for taking a quick seat.
5. I was employed for about 4-5 months, every paycheck was missing money and when i requested it they would ignore me until i got to them in person. And as it continued to happen, Jason began to question me and accused me of lying even after supplying him with proof.
6. I called Rita the night i quit to let her know, and she said "No, you're not quitting. we no longer need you anyway, so you're fired" and she hung up on me. I then called her back and she answered, "if you call me again, i'm blocking you." They still owed me my last paycheck and 5 months of tips so clearly that wasn't gonna work out.
I understand that a lot of these problems are related to me and my labor, but I wanted to bring attention to the matter because i'm aware it's a very popular job for a lot of teenagers searching for one and I want to bring awareness to how awful the owners made that workplace. So, please put a second thought into letting your child apply to work there to protect their mental health, i fortunately was able to speak up for myself but i know that many people have a hard time doing that especially if they're having to speak up against their boss. My sister was employed with me and we would leave that job crying about how horrible those people made us feel. My family has since stopped going there and supporting their business because some people just don't deserve it and I truly believe they don't.
