Homer fish processing was impressive to say the least! On my first all day halibut, rockfish, and lingcod charter they were waiting dockside to take our catch directly from the marina and saved us another step after an exhausting day fishing! The next three days we fished the Kenai for sockeye and rainbow trout, and they took every day's catch and held it all week for us, and even split it 6 ways from every species for us in flight ready boxes and was pennies on the dollar! I normally do not put any reviews on line but this fish processing place has been bugging me. We placed our trust in them and got ripped off. We were short on halibut by at least 15 pounds from the boat to their shop. And then we were charged for 10 lbs of Halibut that we did not receive. We weighted the catch so my brothers could split it for our flight. I asked to speak to the manager and was told the owner was gone etc. I asked to get just on piece of Halibut as token compensation and was denied. We were worried about making our flight so we left. We were told it would take 3 hours to flash freeze and it took 6. I guess they sell the stolen fish for about $15 a pound. read more

I just finished a halibut charter with http://alaska-halibut-fishing-charters.com/ When the day was done we had 90 pounds of fish fillets and cheeks and a full weeks worth of business left in town so we brought our fish to Homer Fish Processing to have it frozen, vacuum sealed, and shipped back to Colorado. Fed Ex messed up the overnight shipping for which we had paid near 400 dollars for. Homer Fish Processing noticed that our package did not arrive and immediately called us. They arranged for the fish to arrive the very next day and refunded us 200 dollars the same day. I can not say enough about this company. They knew what the trip cost us and what the service meant to us. We were effectively looking at losing 1000 dollars worth of halibut and they stayed on top of the situation, made sure the fish arrived in good condition, and were the very sole of courtesy. Even though the SNAFU was on the part of Fed Ex this company made sure everything was done right and turned out well. If you find yourself in Homer Alaska halibut fishing you could not find a better fish processing facility. I'd give them ten stars if it was an option. read more

Homer Fish Processing was recommended by the captain of our halibut charter. As he was a knowledgable and fun guy, we took his advice. A HFP guy picked up our fish at the dock, vacuum sealed and froze it into the 2 pound packages we requested and stored it (free) for the 5 remaining days of our trip. When we picked up our fish, they weighed it as they loaded my ice chests to make sure I would not be charged for an overweight checked bag. I wound up buying a small fish box, as my ice chests would not hold all the fish. Once the ice chests were loaded, they banded them shut. Check in and the flight home was a breeze. From the moment they picked our fish up at the boat to when we arranged shipping we have nothing but good things to say about these guys (and gals). They are so friendly and hard working, did a great job on the fish we brought in both days, and put up with our changing minds about whether to take fish with us or have it shipped. (We shipped.) They told us about a company across from the airport in Anchorage that would hold our fish for a small fee until we flew out. Our main concern was our flight was at 6:00 a.m. and we didn't think we wanted to try and pick up fish and get to airport for flight. Our local UPS delivery was the only snag...it took only 12 hours to travel 3478 miles to our local airport and 11 hours for the days delivery truck to get to us (38 miles) because they chose to do our delivery almost dead last! Fish still frozen though except top layer just starting to thaw. As far as the comments about the skin...leave it on...it's just like the salmon skin, holds it together especially when grilling and if you grill it right it is delicious. read more

Three days' worth of fishing and two orders of purchased items... I don't know how they kept it all straight, but they did! Fish was frozen SOLID, even after a four hour drive to the airport and 10 hours of preboarding, flying, and driving home. We didn't purchase the gel packs, either, but we apparently didn't need them. Only suggestion I have is to maybe have the woman (office manager? Owner?) have a separate area to do her business as it seemed that each time someone came in with a fish question, to drop off or pick up fish, she became more irritable, although EVERYONE ELSE we dealt with were pleasant, kind, and VERY helpful. I'm sure she was only doing her job, but her PR skills could use a little polish. Luckily, the prices are competitive with other places in the area and all of the other workers were very patient with their customers. We will DEFINITELY work with them again. Also, LOVE that they labeled the fish on the individual packages!!! read more

What a fabulous company. They picked up our fish at the boat, smoked our Kings, and vacuum packed and froze the remaining salmon and halibut. We made arrangement's the next day to have our fish shipped overnight to New Mexico. When the smoking was done, they called again to confirm our shipping date and ship to location. Great customer service! Our charter made arrangements with HFP to meet our boat at the dock, but we had already researched and decided we wanted to work with HFP before we went on our charter. Welcome surprise when we saw them there as we were going to call them. They processed our halibut exactly as promised. We purchased razor clams and smoked salmon to have shipped with our halibut. I requested that we be able to use our FedEx account for shipping and they were happy to accommodate my request. They communicated when our fish shipped and forwarded tracking number so that we could let our boys know at home when to expect the delivery. Went very smoothly! We just tried our first package of smoked salmon and it was EXCELLENT! We highly recommend this company for your fish processing needs. FYI - the lousy review about short poles with halibut charter has nothing to do with Homer Fish Processing. That review needs to be addressed to the company he chartered with not the HFP. Totally different companies! read more
