They're also knowledgeable about the trails in the area; some are not very well maintained and they will give you a head's up on those.

We saw bald eagles, puffins, otters, seals and many other types of birds. Also got to visit Halibut cove and Gill Island. Glen also followed COVID-19 protocols, which was extremely important for us. A highlight of the trip was a great salmon dip that Glen had made for us, and also all the his stories. Between our water taxi ride to base camp and our paddle to Halibut Cove, all three guides helped us spot bald eagles, sea otters, osprey and even sea stars. They each had kayaking tips and interesting nature wisdom to share. Emma even took photos of our whole group and sent them to us afterward. Once we landed on the beach at Halibut Cove, Emma sat and ate with us, telling us all about the hike we were about to embark on. She was originally from our neck of the woods and it was so nice to connect about other kayaking adventures we had each tried. They claimed it was due to coast guard restrictions to 6 people, but there were two open spots on our tour, so our newborn in a carrier did not take up a spot from another paying customer. They were late to pick us up because they allegedly had trouble with our boat, so we were downgraded to the cheaper boat and were only able to tour the bay for an hour instead of two. However, it was more likely due to insufficient staffing since they have four boats, and they could have tried to shift the couple remaining tours to accommodate their delay. Luckily, the captain was fantastic and did the best he could with the time that we did get on the tour.

Most were far away from the viewing platforms with a couple close enough for decent photos. After visiting firsthand, an observation I'll make is that the odds are against seeing a lot of bears up close. The bad part of my experience is that the owner, Gabe, was a complete jerk. I called the only contact number with questions 3 times over two days (no answer) and texted at least 3 times. Received only one text reply which was a sarcastic response without answering my questions. No reply to follow up texts. For this reason, I would never consider paying him any more money for bear or fishing trips. Go with someone else.
