Not one of the local mom-and-pops that I tried to patronise first returned any of my calls, website requests or Yelp requests. Bit my tongue, filled out my request and shipped all my negs to ScanCafe. First nit: I couldn't find a way to request both the prints and the image scans in one form, which was annoying. So I just shut up and issued two orders separately. Received the link to see the scans, at which time I was required to pay my balance, and then: second nit. It took forever to get my prints ... but I got them, and they were as good as could be expected from old negatives. The really good thing was that my original negatives also came back well-packed and pristine - so we do have trust. And I liked the online model - worked well for ordering and examining my scans when they appeared. I expect to return to ScanCafe for more neg scans and to try some hardcopy print scans (and probably at least a few restorations/touchups). I was overall very pleased and would recommend them to anyone.

I went with this company based on old reviews I guess. I'm an editor and archivist, and picked…read moreScancafe because of the format they would digitize my MiniDV video files to. I was looking for QuickTime or Apple ProRes. Apparently I saw old information (they said) where their web page said they digitize to QuickTime. What I got was MP4 files. Some of them were digitized OK, a couple had bad color- the original tapes colors were fine. Communication with and within this company is not good. When I FINALLY got my tapes back some boxes were missing though thank God I have all my videotapes. But they were all a mish mash and didn't correlate with the numbers on the boxes. Same with the digitized files: I called to specifically ask them to label them with the number on the tape and cassette but they didn't do that. This company has wasted a lot of my time. If you care about the job being done well and timely do not use this company. I'm not sure how they stay in business.

And when one reads a flash drive or hard copy you would expect to receive an actual physical something! Now if you are into downloading your converted media, then this may be for you. Don't expect a physical product of any sort.

Now the service is terrible. I sent 27 of my client's tapes to them as a reseller. At least half of the tapes on the first try were missing huge sections (they didn't transfer all of the tapes). They asked for a second try. I said I would allow that and please get it right or I'll have to ask for a refund. They promised they'd make it right. So, I asked my client to wait an additional month as we sent all of the tapes back and tried again. Again, tapes came back that were not fully captured and the audio even had a new buzz on some transfers that are not there when you watch the tape. I called ScanDigital again and told them that I was not happy with the service and that I couldn't hand the tapes back to the client and state that everything was transferred faithfully, knowing that chunks were still missing! I asked for a manager to call me back because I'd be requesting a refund. They never called back. I had to file a dispute with my credit card company (and of course ScanDigital is pretending like their shocked that I'm so dissatisfied). Stay very far away from these people. You cannot trust them to transfer your media faithfully and you won't know what family memories you're missing out on. They should be very ashamed of their lack of integrity, especially when their front webpage says, "there is no room for error." Well, I agree, but apparently for as much as they "try", they can't deliver what they are promising. (Would you seriously be interested in shipping your media back to them 3+ times, hoping they'll get it right?) I recommend spending a bit more $ somewhere else if you have to and definitely stay local if you can. Certainly choose someone else to transfer your media.

WFYI Public Media's mission is to "empower, educate, entertain and connect our community through impactful journalism, inspiring stories and lifelong learning." WFYI has been around since 1970 and was the state of Indiana's first educational television system. The broadcast signal reaches 58 miles, though 80+ organizations help WFYI extend its reach. According to the stats, approximately 450,000 households throughout Central Indiana continue to tune in to WFYI Public Television at least once a week, and 110,000 Hoosiers listen to FM 90.1 HD1 on the radio each week. The studio is located at 16th & Meridian in a building that's hard to miss. If you drive behind the building, it's even harder to miss with a gigantic Big Bird destined to greet you. WFYI's television offerings include 3 digital options - 20.1 is the main channel, 20.2 is 24-hour programming for kids, and 20.3 has how-to programming during the day and both local and national offerings in primetime. WFYI's HD radio options include HD1 (the standard BBC/NPR programming along with local news/public affairs) and HD2 (somewhat more trendier programming that is also often available as a podcast). Having attended multiple special events at WFYI, I'm always impressed by those who work there and those who broadcast. I've appeared on multiple shows and semi-regularly on Film Soceyology. I've also had the privilege of guest hosting Film Soceyology during times when host Matt Socey has needed to be absent. WFYI offers closed captioning services. They have accessible parking in back and the sidewalk is level to the front door. The front doors are automatic (push button) and there's an elevator to each floor. I've seen a couple gathering spaces that required a little planning in a wheelchair, but WFYI has always taken accessibility seriously. WFYI also supports numerous community initiatives and you can also see other smaller media organizations in their building. Truly, they're community-minded, engaging, offer a great public forum for discussion and debate, they're entertaining, and they offer a wide variety of programming that's truly stand-out with some of the best hosts for music, news, and public affairs in the city. They're the recipient of numerous awards, including Emmy Awards, and there's no doubt Indy's a better place to live because of WFYI.
