I wish we had other choices. We have always had Home Telephone out here (HUGER) because there were no other options. The phones were always pretty good. Fast forward 20 years and we have their internet. Yes, I realize that living in the country has disadvantages, but we were told by a lady in customer service that "you cannot always have what your neighbors have" - ok. fine. Well today our landlines are out. they cut our line to give our neighbor better internet. Cannot get anyone on phone after holding for 20 minutes on my cell. Living in Moncks Corner and upper Berkeley County you have no choice but to use Home Telecom unless you want to go with Satellite internet. Since they are the only game in town there is not a lot of incentive to provide great service. Their DSL service has a lot of connectivity issues, sometimes it's almost impossible to use. Constant interruptions and reconnects. It seems to get worse when it rains, which is inexcusable for DSL service! I hope another company eventually comes in and forces them to step up their game, because right now it's a Monopoly and it shows. Sadly though it's the only game in town so it's what everyone has to use. They tout their Gigabit connection in some of the new higher end developments going in Berkeley county, but if you're not in the new neighborhoods, the service is bad. $54.94/month for 6 Mbps (megaBIT not megaBYTE) connection, plus you have to have a home phone to get DSL service. So that makes it $89/month for slow, spotty service, in 2016 this is inexcusable. read more

They advertise 1Gb speed with fiber optic direct to the home. Well yeah, it's FO, but the TV box and hardware is primitive. I have to use two remotes; one for the TV and another for the AVR since the remote Home gives you can't be programmed. Want to change channels? Use the Home remote. Need to turn the volume up or down? Grab your AVR remote. Want to check the guide? Back to Home remote. Need to mute the sound so you can answer the phone? Back to the AVR remote again What a pain! Oh you can buy a $60 Harmony remote that will do it all (that is what I was actually told when I complained) but at the price they charge for service it should already be there. I used to hate Comcast, but after a month with Home Telecom I'd love to have Comcast back. read more

Something is very wrong a with company that cannot pick up a SALES call on a weekday in the middle of the day. I hung on for 5 minutes and hung up. The reason that I called was to find out service availability for a particular address in Moncks Corner which the Web site failed to answer. The land owner reported that the building was wired for phone service. I really wanted a land line. But as my rating says, "Methinks not". The other reviewer is right, the Web site stinks and it looks like they are using another vendor or a template for part of it, so it looks like 2 Web sites cobbled together. read more

I have tried to give this company the benefit of the doubt many times now I realize they are playing me just like everyone else. The individuals that work in the D Island office are great and more than helpful. It's just a shame they work for a company that is nothing more than a snake in the grass. My advice is to always pay attention to your bills because they will go up 20-25% with no warning and claim they sent a letter. They also use outdated cable boxes and DVRs. Tonight is the second time in two weeks that my local channels have gone out and no one has an explanation. Had tv and internet installed in the Wando area today. Jody, the tech, was amazing! Knew what he was doing, fast, considerate and friendly. Rained as he was setting up the second tv, so nice not to loose the picture and get the "NO SIGNAL" on the screen. Saving $40 a month over Directv and AT&T and now have a better channel selection. Worst company EVER! My apartment community REQUIRES me to use these ppl! That's the ONLY reason I am!! You have to register for an account over the phone which is pathetic .. all you have is the word of the sales rep you're speaking with, good know how they tell the truth -_- . I recently got a notice of a past due bill that I NEVER RECEIEVED!! This would have been my first bill with these ppl otherwise I would of had them on auto pay!! The office closes at 6 and you can't pay your bill unless u have some secret code that's found on your bill. Well that's all fine and good but I never received a bill to find that secret code. My second week back to school in 10 years and my internet went out, and of course, "after hours." After my friendly phone call (after hours), which I spoke to someone within the first couple of rings, we were given a reference number and told someone would be calling. ("Great, when will that be?") Much to my surprise, I woke up to a missed call AND text from Tech Robbie Clamp with a solution. Followed by an unexpected visit (on a Sat. morning) that fixed the problem. I told Robbie, "I didn't expect all this. This is definitely not how we were treated with the other guy (stupid Comcast), this is amazing!" He responded with, "This is how it should be." Looking back, I have always spoken to someone instantly (the 3 conclusive times I've called, including activation, the 2nd was my fault) and they have felt like I'm speaking to my neighbor. Bravo Home Telecom (standing ovation)! Sending Robbie, the mastermind, was your best move and I am so appreciative of be treated. I hope your company never loses its touch because it is the huge thing that sets you apart. Thank you Robbie for the exit of, "Here's my card, if you guys need anything let me know." I have had Home Telephone for years and do not get good service. Currently I only have internet with them and that is because they are the only choice I have. I thought we had laws against monopolies, but that doesn't count here in Moncks Corner for internet service. There service is extremely overpriced. I have friends who live 20 miles away and they get their internet at half of what I pay. It is very slow! I just went to their website and for 3 -4 times what others in Charleston are paying I could upgrade. I shouldn't have to pay $100 for high speed internet. They even have a plan that costs$200 !!!! I wish I could give zero stars. This company by far has provided the worst internet service I have ever had. For 8 months the service keeps going out every day, cycling in and out throughout the day, and for 8 months I have had people out here without ever fixing the issue. Each time I call into their support line I have to explain the same issue over and over and get the same runaround... "we are filing a ticket and someone will call you back". I never get a call back however and the techs just show up at my house unannounced. When I call ask to speak to a supervisor to try and get answers, there is always an excuse why they can't speak to me. Unfortunately we live in the country and don't have other choices, and it seems Home Telecom could care less about us since we can only get DSL being they won't run fiber optic because "there is not enough houses for demand". If you have any other choices at all, go with them. I promise they will be better than this company. read more

You think you have had issues with Comcast or Time Warner...well, try this messed up excuse for service. Their service and billing is the worst. I was warned before I had my home built by the sales representaive and I still gave them a try. At least with the larger networks they stand behind their billing errors. This is one of the absolute worst companies I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with, and I have lived in a lot of different states and interacted with a LOT of different cable/internet providers. They are in desperate need of competition because the nonsense they pull is unacceptable. For starters, it took forever to even get service installed (they didn't have an install date for SIX WEEKS after we called to start services. they wound up installing after just FOUR WEEKS because they had a cancellation, but that amount of time is still unacceptable), and after it was installed, our services barely worked for an entire month. Even after they've "fixed" it, we still experience numerous problems with both the television and the internet. We had to call and speak to them so many times that it was infuriating even having to dial their number again. We were given runarounds about the bill and how credits would be applied for the services that didn't work while we had them, the bill not even reflecting them for a long while. We were told that our services were part of a certain priced bundled ($199 plus taxes), and they then tacked on extra fees to it without informing us for things we don't understand - not to mention how the first bill was DOUBLE what we expected it to be. They also claim that they never gave us the bundled price they intially told us (and that the bundle wasn't real) - even though two separate people told us we would receive the bundled price we signed up for. I'm sick of talking to them, I'm sick of dealing with them, but they're the ONLY provider in the area. They are a poor excuse for a business, a poor excuse for a service provider, and all around horrible to deal with. I literally cannot wait until I can get away from them. I would rather deal with the frustration that is COMCAST than deal with Home Telecom. I would rather swallow a cactus than have to deal with this company again. read more
