I will definitely call Coastal TV Service the next time I need TV repair service. My 2013 50" Samsung Plasma TV ($1,700) started to power off on its own. Sometimes it would power on within seconds of powering off, sometimes not. Unplugging the set and waiting a few minutes before plugging it back in would typically result in the set coming on immediately, and would either cycle off again within a few minutes, or stay on for hours without further issue. These incidents were now occurring daily. I love the picture quality of this TV and did not want to have to replace it. Not a lot of choices for TV repair in Mt Pleasant so I called Coastal TV and spoke with Jared, the owner. We reviewed his work history which included both out of state and local companies in electronics repair. He came across as technically competent but not cocky. I felt it was worth the cost of a service call to determine if he could save my set from the scrap pile. Jared was able to schedule the visit sooner than expected and he went right to work. He ran diagnostics, poked, prodded, and closely examined all of the boards for cooked capacitors, faulty soldering, etc. Every thing on the main boards etc looked ok, but he had an idea and asked if it was ok to unplug the WiFi module. I agreed, so he did, and then put the set back together. Jared seemed reluctant to take payment for his 1.5 hours of trouble shooting since he was not sure he had fixed anything, but I insisted. It's been almost 4 weeks and the TV has worked flawlessly without incident. So yes, I am a happy camper. Thanks again, Jared! read more
