It feels like a capable crew managing a slow-motion train wreck. Where to start. There was a loud mechanical noise that haunted us for two full days and we never figured out what it was. No hand soap in the bathroom, so we were making trips to the shower just to wash our hands. We told the front desk, but took about a day or so for them to bring it. We ended up buying soap from the store. The toilet was compact. Fine if you're under five feet tall, not so much otherwise. The tissue box was folded into a decorative flower with nothing actually usable underneath, which somehow became the perfect metaphor for the whole stay. Aesthetic effort on top of unmet basics. The last night the internet went out and took the TV with it. TV still wasn't working by the time we checked out. It's not that any one thing was catastrophic. It's that the issues just kept stacking. It felt like duck tape and fresh paint on a building that needs more than that. Hampton Inn has a solid brand reputation and this location isn't living up to it. Hope management is paying attention.

The highlight of our trip!…read more A few things I must point out, the Yelp description for The Wayside Inn is now under new ownership. Susan & David are no longer the propitiators. I met the owner, an unassuming man in the kitchen and shook his hand when I left. Joe is the manager and greeted us when we arrived on Saturday. I told him we have dinner and concert plans and would be back late. He gave us a through tour on how to use the fancy coffee maker, how to use the jacuzzi tub (we didn't us it) as well as the robes. What struck me the most was the branding. The robes as well as the beautiful coffee mugs all had a wonderful logo. Once we took our belongings out and settled into the room, we decided to enjoy the outdoors. My wife grabbed a beautiful blanket and we went outside on the roof deck. We're just taking it all in, I had a bottle of Napa Valley wine I brought from home for us to enjoy, it was really picture perfect. The actual inn is over 200 years old, one of the historic homes in Maryland now made for my enjoyment. Did General Washington sleep here? Inquiring minds want to know! The staircase was truly a sight to see. Made from wood, they crafted these beautiful wooden turns to the upstairs. Creaky wood? Sure. It gives the inn a comfortable charm. Our bedroom had a magnificent sleigh bed and the sheets? Joe was explaining to my wife the thread count. I'm a guy, I was tuning it all out, haha! After a comfortable night sleep, I woke up early. I'm an early riser, I made myself a great cup of coffee and went downstairs to read my book. The sitting area with it's beautiful furnishings, it's a welcoming room. Everything is meticulously cared for, it was a pleasure to have this moment alone and take it all in. After an hour, I went upstairs and took a shower. We have 8:30am breakfast reservations, I want to get on the road to beat the traffic. We were served a French toast bake, absolutely divine. When staying at any B&B, the shower products as well as the food should be top notch. Staying at the local Marriott doesn't give you the same experience. After breakfast my wife made us Dove Hot Chocolates as we packed up. I highly recommend The Wayside Inn. From the quaint accommodations to the fab breakfast, I thank you making our stay special.

Walking in, we saw crack vials and used syringes in parking lot. Upon entering lobby, the front desk clerk (Indian woman in her 50s, med length hair) asks for my ID and then proceeds to completely ignore me for about 15 min while she talks on her phone, and then talks to her coworker, in Hindi. Finally we get the key, room 106, and we go in to find... it's an uncleaned, used room. Dirty towels and sheets, trash, other people's forgotten belongings. So we go let the staff know, they give us another room, 261, which was a smoking room that REEKED, even though we'd booked non smoking. Upon entering, we notice the bed headboard is broken off and has been propped up against the wall. Burns on sheets, comforter, furniture, broken and yellowed lampshades, and smudges - big, greasy smears - all over it. The carpet was so filthy it turned your feet black. The tub faucet was broken and sprayed water directly out, rather than down, and the shower curtain was filthy and yellowed. There was trash from previous guests in the closet and the safe. TV did not work at all, and one of the lamps flickered with a strobe light-like affect. Believe it or not, it only got worse. Upon closer inspection, it turned out the door lock didn't work, if you pulled it shut from the inside (thinking it would lock, as one would expect) it did not, so anyone could have walked in while we were sleeping. Then, I noticed the blood. All over the walls in the bathroom, the mirror, and the broken floor. I have worked with recovering addicts, and I know exactly what this is - it's when an IV drug users depresses the plunger on a syringe that already has their blood in it, either to get air bubbles out or to clean the syringe when they're done. It was EVERYWHERE. Then I moved the tray that the coffee pot was one - God help me, there were used condoms, condom wrappers, a dead roach, and a razor blade under there. Did I mention I had my 7 yr old daughter with me? When I went to the desk, the woman was incredibly rude, called me a liar. She said I either had to put up with that room or leave and get refunded for the night. Obviously we choose the later, but when I returned to get the refund, they refused to do it. Claimed that the card I had wasn't the one I booked the room with (it was), and then said I had to contact super.com, as that was the site I had booked the room through. When I contacted them, they said the HOTEL had to refund me. This was the worst experience with a hotel - hell, with any kind of establishment, in my life. I've contacted health dept, BBB, etc. But please, if you value your health and sanity, stay far, far away from this disgusting place.

This Residence Inn is an old town house design (was this their original concept?). Given the nasty wind and rain and no covered entryway and no dedicated check-in parking spots it was not a great start (at least the parking was free). I asked for an upgraded room as a platinum member but the clerk said they had nothing. Also I had to ask for the platinum welcome gift. She did not offer it. The public areas were clean and perhaps a bit worn. The suite itself was large with a fireplace - that was a first and nice given the weather. The bathroom was the big negative. Dark and old with a tub shower. The bed layout was so tight that it was challenging to maneuver around the one side. The breakfast was typical but it was nice to have real plates and silverware versus plastic. The location isn't close to really anything except office parks and some suburban strip malls.

The Wi-Fi was slow. Rhe bathroom light, didn't turn on sometimes or when it did, it was very dim. The service was okay. I was greeted when I checked but it took longer than expected, although I checked in online. Whenever an employee saw me leaving or coming, they would acknowledge me. However, I was not recognized as a Marriott Elite member. I do appreciate the employee giving me a bottle of water, although it was one small bottle of water at check in. There isn't very much around in walking distance, other than a Chick-fil-A. You definitely need a car. The best thing about this location is that it's convenient to the highway.

My favorite part of the inn was the screened back porch, providing sunshine, fresh air, and plenty of bird watching opportunities with three separate feeders around the porch. So peaceful and pleasant! I highly recommend The Wilderness.

I'm about 5' 6" and raised my arm a bit too high to touch the ceiling in the shower. No in room microwave, only the one in the lobby near the front desk. Looked like a full bar and restaurant in the area across from the elevators. The elevators are extremely SLOWWWWW. They do have a few snacks and bites for purchase beside the front desk as well and I did see a pool. One of the fixtures for the pole in the shower was lose; shower pressure is TERRIBLE; shower temperature was TBD each time; inside the toilet looked stained/scratched and rusted; cobwebs in one corner over the night table; a resident silverfish in one of the painting mats; should probably try entry doors that go to the floor and not let all the hallway light in when the room is dark; and the toilet made some weird sing-song sound every time it flushed. THE WALLS ARE PAPER THIN! (can't warn future patrons of that enough) Went from practically an adult film on one side of us, to what sounded like a kids party on the opposite side the next night!! Every conversation had in the hall sounds like it's in your room. Lose power outlets almost made me late to work...phones was completely dead because the charger had fallen out. The bed was as comfortable as the lobby was beautiful but those are the only two notable reasons to stay there again if that's what you're interested in. Otherwise, hard pass and would pay more to stay somewhere else.
