they have everything at a LOW price, outstanding service, outstanding prices, if you can't find it, you don't need it

well it's finally happened, after 7 years of going to Resource for those unique and hard to find items, everything from screws, brackets, plumbing & electrical, lumber and an odd window now and then I'll never be back. For the last couple of years I went from bringing friends & family to the store, we all would have a blast btw, to coming in maybe once a month. The pricing has been increased to new in box amounts and it seems most of the help hate being there, without a Hi or thank yous. I wasn't looking for money out of the till, I wanted to return a few items I bought 2 days ago, there was a very good chance I was going to use that refund to get other items. Instead the store refused the $20 return and in so doing lost out on $60 to $70 I would have spent and even worse, the thousands I would have spent over the next 10 years. Missoula is lucky to have a place like this. People out here talking about "oh they won't take my donation" and "basically retail prices" are obviously confused. They have no place handing out 1-2 star reviews about a small business serving needs in the community There are business like this in all major cities and there is no way they stay afloat taking every donation, they take what sells. Home Resource takes WAY more things than any similar business in a larger city. No, they don't want your broken boards with rusty nails, because literally no one wants them. As for "retail prices"....are you kidding me? Have you ever been to a hardware store? People come here to get used goods for cheaper than they are when new, and Home Resource is exactly as advertised. Plus you might find some unique vintage stuff you won't find anywhere else. It's like a treasure hunt every time, this place and the people who work there are awesome. read more

Not great for everything but definitely for home goods (old dishes, furniture) and mostly for construction, refurbishing, and odd junk to "fix things". Really good people; always fair. A great resource to have around! read more

The "donation coordinator" is a busy chap, who goes by the name, Rocko. He stated that they don't pick up used lumber with nails in it, and they want you to send them digital images of what they are supposed to pick up, so they can determine if it's worth their time and labor costs to even pick up the the donation. read more

Their used crap (dented, used and all) is more expensive than buying the same item new at Ace Hardware. Claiming to be non-profit, someone is profiting greatly. Go to Ace Hardware, WalMart, HomeDepot, Lowes, etc., for the same item and you'll find that brand new at those places is cheaper than "non profit" Home Resource. What a crooked scam that place it. read more

I always enjoy both donating to this place and shopping here. The only issue I have seen is the behavior of one of the cashiers. This lady, who was at the cash today at about 1:30, compares the prices to the prices at Lowes then charges the customers a much higher price than the others. She is not customer-friendly either. read more

After spending way too much money at ACE buying necessities to hang misters on the porch, we went to Home Resource to look for the same equipment. First, I love home resource, the concept is top notch as is the staff. I would give it 5 stars except within the past year I have noticed prices for the used, donated products is becoming very close to new. Pricing is sometimes up to individuals, whatever they feel that day. I would have purchased $100 worth of fencing except they wanted $200 for the product. 8 months later I've noticed the product is still on the floor. I don't understand. read more

I love searching through old, forgotten things and this place is an amazing paradise for that. There are also a lot of newer things in great condition, especially materials and construction odds and ends. If your going to ask someone a question though make sure you watch them for a moment and that they actually work there. Twice I've made a hideous fool of myself by interrogating a passerby with no connection to the store. read more

I appreciate all Home Resource tries to do but feel that their pricing has really taken an upswing in the last year or so. I purchased quite a few items for a remodel I did ~3 years ago and was quite happy, at that time, with the selection and the pricing. Unfortunately, Home Resource is no longer my go to place for buying reused/recycled materials. The selection is still pretty good, but the increasing prices have deterred me from the weekly trips I used to make to maybe visiting monthly--and usually walking away disappointed. Obviously, you are welcome to charge as you see fit, as I am welcome to purchase from where I choose. I do think that customers are trying to tell you something is amiss. Please take it into consideration. read more

This kind of makes me sad to have to write this review. I have supported Home Resource since the very beginning. I have literally spent thousands of dollars there. I understand that during this covid situation that we have to take extraordinary precautions. I saw a man and his wife trying to enter Home resource. They were told that they needed to wear a mask to enter. OK. They returned to their vehicle and got masks. They attempted to enter again. The young man at the entrance then told the elderly gentleman that he had to wash his hands before he could enter. The customer remarked that was kind of silly. The young man at the entrance then told the couple to leave. The older gentleman said he would not leave and the young man told him to leave or he would call the cops. The older gentleman asked to speak to a manager and the young man told him their was no manager. The couple went to the front counter to I would guess file a complaint about the employee. At this point the question about hand washing was long overshadowed by the response they got from the employee. The employee then got on his radio and told the counter person that a guy was coming in to complain and that he was being an "asshole" to him so he told him to leave. He then told the counter person if they gave "them" any shit to call the cops. This employee lied. I was sitting in my truck making a donation and was parked within 10 feet of this situation. This is not what happened at all. There is a white board at the entrance with a whole list of disparaging comments that have been made to the resource people at the entrance gate. Nobody deserves to be cussed at for doing their job, but as a customer we deserve a little respect. Maybe if you have that many customers making nasty comments it's not the customers. The employee totally escalated this situation and blatantly lied about the situation. They way Home Resource is operating right now is like trying to gain access to a military installation. Militant. I'm done with them. This man and his wife did nothing to deserve having the police called on them. Is this really what the home resource center is all about now? read more

This company was a great place back In the day. I would go there after I got out of school when it was over by sentinel high school. The products were not junk and people could get a good deal and help with keeping construction waist out of the landfill. Now this company is all about getting as much money out of a donated item as they possibly could. I wanted to buy a cabinet set that is missing the sink base but looked ok. I did not need two of the cabinets from the set. The asking price is 450 for the whole set I figure they could get about 50 for each of the two cabinets I don't need and I was willing to pay 350 for the rest of the set. the manager refused to split up the set saying she could get full price for it. well I am sorry but in the end they would make the same amount of money. It is clear money is all this company cares about anymore instead of the original belief in selling something that someone could reuse at a great price and keeping it out of the landfills. read more

I have to start this review by saying this place used to kick butt about 4-5 years ago and I was a purchasing customer at least 2-3 days a week and completely hooked on the concept as well as the employees...fantastic job back in the day!! Now to explain my current single star rating. I am not quite sure what has happened to Home Resource over the last few years, but it has absolutely gone down hill in my eyes as well as in the eyes of many others in the community who once frequented this fine establishment to purchase and parouse reasonably priced 'DONATED' & 'USED' home goods. Unfortunately, today you can expect to pay close to full retail (new/like new $) prices on most items, not to mention the plethora of damaged/non working goods being sold as...I ask why?? What's with the antique store-like atmosphere/pricing?? I am also leary of a business that doesn't mark prices on goods, combined with the 'make it up as we go' attitude...no more offers/bargaining. You have to keep in mind that these are DONATED USED GOODS folks!! I do realize the 'progressive' community that now saturates the Missoula market has no problem over paying for used goods, but myself and many others work on a budget and Home Resource hands down has turned there back on this demographic within the community. I decided to finally part ways this weekend and no longer patronize this business and I hope others will do the same until we can restore the luster of a once amazing local used retailer!!
