I was very happy with the attention to detail taken on every phase of construction. MC, the owner, was onsite every single day supervising his crew and subcontractors. He finished the project on time and on budget. He is definitely an expert on coastal area construction of elevated houses and made several prudent recommendations to improve the lot lay, drainage, and final product. Communication throughout the entire project was excellent. Quality of construction is clearly superior to most others. I can honestly, without any reservation, give his company and his subcontractors my highest recommendation. We were really excited to find Kerby Custom Renovations. Their recommendations on line seemed almost too good to be true so we moved ahead with Kerby. Kerby did the renovation of my kitchen and laundry room and added in a pantry. They did an excellent job given that there were no drawings or blueprints for what I wanted. To complicate matters, I really wanted a new space that would be safe for me as I age in place. Kerby managers, staff and sub-contractors worked closely with me to make the kitchen/pantry/laundry of my vision into a reality. Kerby staff were excellent communicators in that they not only spoke up when they had questions but they took the time to listen to what I wanted and envisioned. They were kind and patient and helped me by making suggestions and providing alternatives, some of which I incorporated into my kitchen. The custom work they did was outstanding and the subcontractors they worked with were exceptional too. Sometimes it took longer to get the next set of workers in to continue work which extended the length of our rehab but all in all, it was totally worth the wait because of the quality of their work. Their integrity showed through with each step of the rehab process. I was also impressed with their after service care. I had 3 small items that needed to be taken care of after my final payment to Kerby. They followed up and completed all 3 items in a timely fashion.

We had a nightmare experience…read more General Contractors are needed to make sure you stay on budget and meet your timeline and obviously to provide a quality finished project. None of these things happened in our case. From another state, we hired 5A to complete a full house remodeling job that included water damage and mold abatement. Although we could tell not much work had been done, he kept demanding more and more money from us. At one point he had not applied $40,000 that we had paid him, but was asking for more. After being way over budget and time, as well as, terrible work quality, we had to fire them and hire another company to take over and manage the job. We are now paying to re-work much of what had been done because it was so poorly executed and would never have met code. He rarely shows up on the job and he kept our property filthy. He had no respect for anything on our property. Windows were broken that we must now repair. He cuts corners! He would not communicate what was going on at our home or if he did, it was a lie. For example, we met one Saturday to go over the job and he never told us we had failed our inspection just 1 day prior. He kept atrocious books. When we asked to see his accounting, it was just a file of receipts that could have been for any job. He is so unprofessional. The builder will not respond to our letters asking for our deposit and other monies that are ours, so he left us no other recourse but to pursue it legally. It has been such a disappointing experience.
