He charged me more than the quote, but I figured it had taken more time. He said he would send a receipt but never did. Home Depot contacted the owner and gave him 24 hours to get in touch with me. He never did. The icemaker won't stop making ice, so now I don't know if the problem is the new icemaker or if it was installed incorrectly. Apparently, the owner has still not responded to Home Depot.

Technician came on time, as scheduled, and identified the problem in 10 minutes. He ordered part needed, charged me for service call $95.00, and left. Week later the front desk called they have received the part ordered, and scheduled repair. The technician showed as scheduled, it took him 15 minutes to complete the repair. At this time, I was charged another $142.21 for the repair and the part ( burner switch-about $56.) So, the total labor, per invoice, comes to $175.00. With this said, I consider the labor cost of my appliance repair ( two years old electric range ) is a bit expensive, compared to IPhone repair, or car repair, for example. The front desk was not able to tell me the labor rate per hour. So, next time, when you shop for appliance repair, do some research, when calling around for appliance repair company.

Tech came out on 5th or 6th, pulled out appliance, and checked control unit on right side. Did control unit test, indicated original control unit fried. Est repair $430 including one svc call and control unit. Ordered replacement control unit that day, it arrived following week. Biz owner (The Boss) came out on the 13th to install replacement control unit, which would not work. On inspecting packaging, he suspected the part was used, and declared it defective. He reinstalled original control unit. In the interim, The Boss did a precursory search around with a flashlight and smelled burning insulation, with smoke coming from terminal control box in front. Seems Justin Case was watching out for us. The Boss took off front valance and found exposed burnt insulation on hot wire. He said the wire had worked loose from machine screw terminal causing voltage drop to control unit, causing malfunction, but no electronics damage. The Terminal box WAS damaged, I guess the cost about $30 or $40. A lot less than $350 for the control unit! He said likely cause was faulty installation (7 years ago) by under-torqued connections, which explained brief recovery. He ordered a new terminal box and will install it for $96 with parts in addition to the single service call. That was about 40% of the original estimate. He also mentioned new electrical code will require plug-in wall outlets for dishwashers. I can't guarantee appliance repairs will go that well for everyone, but I find these people to be honest and perfectly reliable, and with a Holmes-Poirot-Father Brown doggedness to get to the bottom of the issue. Other sources here in Yelp, as well as others, rate Scott's as highly as I. They DO come out here to the Wild West as well as Baldwin County. BTW I installed the appliance in 2015 so it was my fault the connections were under-torqued. That is, I should have used a socket instead of a screwdriver. The next patient will get the Scott Appliance treatment for sure.

The inspection came back that the roof wasn't properly sealed and need to corrections in several areas. I emailed them, called them and left voicemails asking them to help resolve this issue. They IGNORED me. Never received one follow-up after asking them to look into their work. I ended up having to repay again to fix their work to close on the property. Highly suggest avoiding them. Communication is solid until they take your money, work proved to be subpar after inspection.

Thankfully, I got accepted into the Strengthen Alabama Homes (SAH) fortification program, which covered over half the cost. Still, this was a major investment, so I wanted to be sure I was making the right choice. With experience as a former maintenance supervisor for a 16-story apartment building, I treated this like a serious project. SAH required me to get bids from three authorized installers. I researched thoroughly, keeping a tally of every recommendation I saw online, especially on Facebook. SunnBuilders came out on top in mentions. When Kevin Keith from SunnBuilders came out (the second of three reps), it became clear he was different. The rep from Company-A pushed unnecessary upgrades, like a bond breaker for the peel-and-stick ice and water shield, claiming you'd need to re-deck the roof later. Technically true--but Kevin explained that a second shield layer can be added decades down the line, which made more sense. The first company also wanted to keep my outdated turbine vents, even though they aren't allowed under SAH. Kevin, however, quoted ridge vents for proper airflow and explained why it mattered. He warned me about companies offering low bids upfront only to hit you with expensive change orders later. I felt confident that SunnBuilders was upfront and honest. They also offered attic insulation services, which I was very interested in, though I couldn't afford it at the time. Still, this was a big selling point for me. Company-C rep was nice, but had a take-it-or-leave-it vibe. SunnBuilders' quote came in a few hundred dollars higher than the others, but Kevin worked with me to land on an agreeable figure. While I couldn't swing the insulation, I appreciated the flexibility and the no-BS approach. I wanted it done right--and they delivered 1000% On April 1st, I came home to see the materials shrink-wrapped and staged by the house. The crew arrived just after 7am the next morning and worked through Friday afternoon. These guys worked. Watching them carry 90lb bundles of CertainTeed shingles up a ladder all day was wild--GAF shingles are lighter, and have a better embossed look to them (in my opinion) but I chose CertainTeed for their quality and am glad I did. Major shoutout to Allen, Billy, Gavin, and Matt. They went way above and beyond. Cleanup was intense due to the wind blowing debris all over--including into my pool. One of the guys even jumped into my unheated pool (70 degrees!) to clean tar paper and shingles from the bottom without me even asking! Final advice: *Choose SunnBuilders! *Go with CertainTeed shingles. *Skip the bond breaker unless it makes sense for you. *Consider having them add insulation if your budget allows. !!!And PLEASE, leave the guys a cooler of cold drinks.
