    Kerby Custom Renovations

We were really excited to find Kerby Custom Renovations. Their recommendations on line seemed almost too good to be true so we moved ahead with Kerby. Kerby did the renovation of my kitchen and laundry room and added in a pantry. They did an excellent job given that there were no drawings or blueprints for what I wanted. To complicate matters, I really wanted a new space that would be safe for me as I age in place. Kerby managers, staff and sub-contractors worked closely with me to make the kitchen/pantry/laundry of my vision into a reality. Kerby staff were excellent communicators in that they not only spoke up when they had questions but they took the time to listen to what I wanted and envisioned. They were kind and patient and helped me by making suggestions and providing alternatives, some of which I incorporated into my kitchen. The custom work they did was outstanding and the subcontractors they worked with were exceptional too. Sometimes it took longer to get the next set of workers in to continue work which extended the length of our rehab but all in all, it was totally worth the wait because of the quality of their work. Their integrity showed through with each step of the rehab process. I was also impressed with their after service care. I had 3 small items that needed to be taken care of after my final payment to Kerby. They followed up and completed all 3 items in a timely fashion.

It was a one day installation and the 2 technicians did a very good job and left the area clean and tidy. They came back the next day to clean another time. The job they did was great and there is very little paint touch up that has to be done! We will recommend them to everyone we know.

I've known Matt since 1991 so that should tell anyone reading this review that his work quality is…read morereally bad to drive me to the point of actually having to leave this review. This was the first job he's done for me and it will be the last. I sent him a letter on 2/11 outlining all the issues. He replied, but lied and told me he was in Auburn with his daughter when in fact he was partying at Mardi Gras. He also said he would contact me on 2/13 and that didn't happen either so I feel it's my duty to warn others about the quality of work he provides, especially to a friend since 1991. If he will do this kind of work for me, I shutter to think what he is doing to others. I hired him to hang plywood and peg board in a barn to seal up air gaps. I also asked him to only use screws. He told me he could do the job in 2 days for $500 a day. He did not even finish the job in 3 days and charged me $1500. Not only is the job not finished, but it has to be completely redone. Nothing is sealed up due to the ridiculous crooked cuts in all of it. There isn't one piece of wood that has a straight cut. He showed up with a bundle of 1x2s that he tried to force me to allow him to put over every seam of every piece of plywood, which would have looked like tic tac toe on the wall. He planned to use them to cover up his sloppy cuts and workmanship. Plywood was installed vertical in places so the grain doesn't match. He made a huge mess of the peg board by not hanging it properly and using electrical staples to mount it to a frame. It buckled immediately. He cut huge holes in the peg board around outlets. He cut into electrical plates and switches, as well as two wires, including the alarm motion detector. When I confronted him about it, he said, "it's just a barn" with no consideration to the fact that I've just paid to build everything new. He cut inside where all my furnishings and belongings are stored. Everything is covered in saw dust. He used multiple screws throughout and nails whenever he felt like it contrary to me asking that he not use nails. Most are not driven straight and were hammered down into the wall. He covered up an electrical outlet and refused to take the panel down. Instead he told me it was a good project for me to do. He threw wood against a hutch without any care of damaging anything. He didn't stack it back as it was. He used my ladders and didn't leave anything as he found it. He threw trash on the ground, broke personal items that he knocked over and never bothered to pick up. I have crossed paths with some sorry contractors over the years, but have to say that his work quality is up there with the worst I've ever encountered. He doesn't stand behind his word or his work and was very disrespectful of me and my property. I spent around $2100 just on materials and much of it must be replaced. The scariest part is he is actually a licensed home builder and a 6th grader could have done better work. I will be filing complaints with the Home Builder's Licensure Board, Alabama Board of General Contractors, and the BBB for starters. More will follow.
