Frankly, the apparent absence of a Yelp page should have been a red flag. But they were highly regarded elsewhere.
Having interacted with them, I can understand the value of ducking Yelp reviews.
You see, I never got as far as signing off to do the work, because they told me with their quote that they clearly did NOT want the business. Now, I can't say if there was anything to it, such as racism or something else that played in. I don't make that statement...but the quote was so absurd that it leads one to think they had an ulterior motive to why they were absurd with no intent to flex, despite looking like idiots by even presenting such an absurd quote.
Here's the background.
I had four windows installed recently - LARGE bay layout windows, with all the fixings. That took five months to completion, because the vendor (Home Depot, who I reviewed elsewhere) screwed up the scheduling. They made good on it with a credit off the balance, but they ghosted and have not replied to multiple followup responses to explain what went wrong and how they plan to address the issues. The point though: they got four LARGE high-end windows installed for under $7500 including the interior trim, replacing a damaged screen and wood matched caulk. (And before you think that's high...I stress again, these are LARGE, high-end windows with maximum features.). It took two guys about 4 hours, and that's with one guy slacking off.
I reached out to Home Path because other than Home Depot, Home Path is the only other authorized provider that Simonton (the manufacturer I prefer) works directly with out here for whatever reason. The sales guy came out, and frankly, was more than a bit smarmy, but I was willing to give them the business so as not to deal with Home Depot again for the rest of the window work. This time I wanted three replaced, two in the kitchen, one in the bathroom, each roughly half the size of the ones replaced prior, but same features. I even told him, it's cool to use any other manufacturer provided they offer the same features.
He emails a quote. The labor ALONE is basically the same as what I'd paid for parts/labor/cleanup on the four that Home Depot did.
I'd asked for a window modification and assumed maybe that's the bulk of it, but his other quote without the modification wasn't much lower. Basically, no matter what, for three small windows, he wanted more than $10k.
I tried multiple things to find out what was the bulk of the labor. He kept saying it would take his crew 2 days to replace three windows. Which makes no sense given that Home Depot got it done in a fraction of that time with MORE, LARGER, HEAVIER windows.
So...I can't speak to quality of the work, because if they're willing to rip off, they weren't worth the business. And I'd be strongly curious if others were given much more reasonable labor quotes, because that would validate that they just didn't want the work. read more
