Tammie was truly amazing, patiently explaining all of the bureaucratic monstrosity that is the American health care system, from HMOs to Medicare. She was highly knowledgeable, resourceful, and extremely personable. I honestly don't know what I would have done without her; she walked me through all the steps I needed to get the home care set up and was compassionate about the many obstacles I faced due to my father's terrible HMO. She helped me with getting my dad into his primary care and assisted me with all the steps needed to get his home health referral. The rest of the staff at Choice Matters is also excellent; my dad loved his physical therapist, Allen, who helped him get back on his feet, literally. My dad is a misanthropic curmudgeon who doesn't like most people, but he looked forward to his visits with Allen and was able to walk again with his support. The name of the agency really reflects that "Choice Matters" when you choose a caregiver. I highly recommend!

The first time I went to Bayview for 20 days it was a nightmare. It is dirty, the blanket the aid…read morebrought me head crusty stuff on it so that it had not been washed, they were large roaches walking across the floor in my room when I turned on the light at night. I told the nurse about the roaches and asked for the exterminator. Three days later the exterminator had not shown up. Four days later he showed up and walked around the room and sprayed the perimeter of the room with the spray going all into the air while I was in the room. It simply is not an uplifting atmosphere within which to recuperate. I have all my faculties so I was able to advocate for myself. The nurses would never bring me my IV vancomycin antibiotic on time, which is supposed to be a strict every 12 hours. Once she was five hours late despite my going out to the nurses station and asking over and over and over again. I had a meeting with the heads of the departments at Bayview and they said they would take care of everything. Well, the next day, nothing has changed. If you dislike your family member, stick them in Bayview and walk away.

They help determine the needs and care of the patient ahead of time. They discuss care preferences and scenarios, touring your home with you to locate essentials for cooking, laundry, cleaning, bathing, medical needs, and pet care. On the first day of service, they accompany the caregiver to review item locations, ensuring minimal disturbance to the patient post-surgery. I thought that strategy was brilliant and thoughtful. It hadn't even crossed my mind, but I'm so glad it was on theirs! Knowing and then meeting the patient's needs is their top priority. They're perfect if you don't have a reliable support system in town, or your loved ones' schedules can't accommodate all or some of your needs. If procedures or surgery is required they'll take you to the hospital or doctor's office and be the point of contact for your release, similar to a family member, and bring you home, settle you in and stay with and care for you for your allotted time.
