Updating a previous review, there has been real improvement in the Memory Care section at this…read morefacility. There is now an Activities Director who is enthusiastic and introducing a schedule of activities for the facility, including memory care. The staffing is also improved, with more full-time aides and somewhat better coverage on weekends, though that remains a weak spot. Nursing has also improved with the addition of an Assistant Director who helps organize and manage the load, and who complements the leadership team. The memory care unit really needs updating with a special emphasis on safety. Falls are frequent among memory care residents, and this unit was designed with little regard for safe landings. The management has always been available and attentive to my concerns and requests, and I've found the staff to be mostly friendly and respectful.

This shelter has really changed to the NEGATIVE! I went there just 1 time the last 2 years since I…read moream retired and need some help now and then. I was helped last year and all was fine. This year I called and talked to a lady in charge who said she would help me out again this year. To come over between 1-4 PM and she would assist me with my food stamp application. She said I could come over...Any Time...during these hours. I went there this past week and they refused me help. Told me I had to be homeless when the staff person told me she would help me anyway since I was on a small fixed income and had been very sick recently taking some new medications that I was still struggling on with serious hypertension. Being treated poorly does not help those with hypertension. Another lady was there asking for help (ahead of me) for a family and they told HER...she had to be a St Johns County resident?! Nothing was said about must be "homeless" to Her.... What gives here...LIES! Tell the public what you think they want to hear...and then tell them to GO AWAY! I am on a fixed small income and have to rent a room in house owned by a gentleman friend. For many years, every time I go on-line to do the FS Renewal...they won't allow me to submit my App. If you go to Human Services...they refuse to print out the application and in both cases...you never know if the renewal got there or not. In all cases...No they told me it was not submitted?? and I lost food stamps both years for 2 months. I cannot afford this. I am on a very restricted diet unfortunately due to allergies, chemicals, and food sensitivities and very much need food stamp money to just be able to eat what I can each month. A report needs to go to the County and to the State Of Florida to find out just what these people are suppose to be doing with helping the public. Remember...they are receiving MONIES to run this place...whomever you are who is sending them money...You MUST check into this shelter and investigate and see why things are not being operated properly in good standing. And why there are Rules for some...and different rules for others! Beware! Stay Away from this place...all you get is NOTHING!
