Stacy, her family and her incredibly awesome staff have welcomed my Dad, and our whole family with open arms and lots of Love. They treat our Dad with respect and dignity and care for him as a member of their own family. Our family has complete peace of mind knowing Dad is in such a wonderful place. Stacy has only the best caregivers taking care of her clients. The caregivers are kind and attentive, they make sure that our Dad's every need is met. They involve their clients in games, exercise and other activities, and Dad says the food is always great! Our family can visit as often as we want. We've been continuously updated on my Dad's health condition since he arrived there, If we have any questions or concerns Stacy takes care of them immediately. This truly is an amazing place, so amazing that we've moved my Mom into Stacy's home too. My parents and our whole family are so thankful for Stacy and "Care With Love." Now, our Mom and Dad can spend all their time together again! Thank you to Stacy, your family and caregivers.

She developed medical problems, left for skilled nursing then returned for Hospice care. But while there at Magnolia Place, the environment felt like staying in a hotel. The food was good, the caregivers cared and I know she was in a secure environment. She could walk as far as she wanted, had an active social life and had a very robust life helping "work" there cleaning up after meals. Everyone made her final time there the very best for my mother and me. As difficult as death is, they certainly helped me prepare for the experience and I thank them. Kathy is the best as a go-to person. Thank you all.

Keep in mind that you are charged daily until all items are out of room. So while you are grieving you better hurry it up because its $300 minimum at last year's rates. Even a couple days adds up quickly so stop your crying and get to packing... I get that maybe that's a standard assisted living norm, but I think a day or maybe 2 to collect furniture would be nice. They refuse to have not even a single item donated to them so everything must go. That's fine, just be aware. It just was a little harsh knowing that things were broken on day one of moving in and were never fixed for years even though they were safely hazards and I kept reminding them. Their maintenance leaves something to be desired. Their phone system and people's willingness to answer the phone or respond to voicemails is abysmal. It's shocking how much you have to pester them for the smallest issue by phone. It became easier to walk in to get an answer. Just embarrassing. From the receptionist to the executive director, good luck in communicating with them once you sign the paperwork. Even their corporate body acknowledged issues with Bakersfield and had communication difficulties. Memory care is just not a good place. That's probably true anywhere. Directors made excuses for bad employees' untold number of times. Activities are slim to none and all residents are merely parked in front of tv for most part. Yes, this is memory care and you have to lower expectations and I certainly did. But its horribly understaffed which really does show and makes things worse with residents wandering into unlocked rooms and stealing things and going into unlocked laundry areas and ingesting substances. The med techs I guess are overworked but it manifests itself as they just don't care. Over several years I have seen this. They stopped giving meds to my loved one because it was too difficult or they ran out and never told me. Communication was really bad and the disorganization just made it worse. If you are not fully on top of their meds, forget it. Magnolia memory care won't be either. Aide allowed loved one to fall in shower resulting in broken hip requiring hospital stay, surgery, and months in rehab hospital. I wasnt told for several days what really happened. Just that she fell and is complaining of leg pain. Then the story finally came out that the aide didn't tell anyone and only when I inquired about it was the aide terminated. Who knows for what reason or if they had already quit. I paid thousands in extra fees on this incident because her long-term care doesn't cover assisted living rent while they are in a rehab hospital. Actually between 7-10 thousand was out of pocket not including the surgery and hospital fees. All because they allowed her to fall and admitted it was their error. No apology was given and no credit or allowances were made. The meds, of which there were few in this case, were not managed well. I simply cant imagine if blood pressure and a host of other medications were needed. This facility's med techs and staff just can't handle the requirements of these patients. There were so many communication issues between the visiting doctors and facility staff where I was left out of the loop and I had to call because they just wouldnt communicate with me on proper meds or if something was called into a pharmacy. I was on top of it and still saw so many lapses in care that I cant believe they could survive a state medical audit. I soon learned that they just are there to manage a body instead of really caring for a human being. Memory care is HARD. Hard to place someone there and hard to watch them. Anyone in this situation knows this. I wish it was a better experience and I could add so many more examples of how Magnolia let me down, but I think I have communicated enough issues to give anyone in this situation something to think about. We count on these facilities to make the best of VERY difficult circumstances and hope there is compassion and care. We just didn't find that at Magnolia Place.

As parents age and need more care, you want to help them, but we have our own lives and responsibilities. Five years ago we moved my 92-year-old mother-in-law into a community home (Magnolia Place). It has been a wonderful place. Expensive, yes, but the service was good to above average. And, when COVID hit, we were happy Mom was in a safe place. Two years ago, when Mom's mental faculties declined, she moved into the memory care section. Again a price increase, but the family members supplemented her pension, and we could barely get by. Then, they announced a price increase for 2023. Mom, now almost 98, has severe dementia. We needed to find another place for her. At first we tried Care.com. They referred us to several places, most out of our price range. Someone mentioned we check out Bakersfield Senior Placement. We contacted Tim Kounter, and after a brief interview, we knew we were in excellent hands. Tim listened to our needs, heard about Mom, and soon we scheduled a morning to visit four different Residential Care Facilities. There's paperwork when you move into these places. Tim helped us get that in order. The four RCF's we visited were suitable for Mom's condition. Each had its own amenities. I appreciated Tim took the lead to start the interviews. He knew what questions to ask, even the tough ones. We narrowed our choices down to two. Tim offered guidance when we asked, but had no agenda on which home we chose. Bakersfield Senior Placement does not charge to help you find a place. Each home has a base fee, then a care fee dependent on the resident's need. This is a tough job for any family member, but it has to be done. It was nice to have someone like Tim to help us through the process.

They have done a great job with remodeling to give it a more home like feel. The lobby is large and welcoming, with some nice seating options to visit with loved ones or wait in comfort. They have a large bed capacity, about 300 if I remember correctly, and at the time of their open house (August 26, 2025) they had about 20 residents. The rooms are very spacious, each with their own bathroom with a step in shower for easy resident use, grab bars installed for assistance, a small kitchenette with a small refrigerator in the smaller rooms and a larger kitchenette with a full size fridge in the bigger ones. Both private and shared rooms are available. There is a large activity room, a large (what will soon be) theater room, large dining room, and a private dining room as well for private events. They have secured memory care unit with both private and shared rooms, a few nice activity rooms and a sensory/quiet/relaxation room. The executive director Jessica toured me around the facility, she explained their amenities and rates, type of clients they serve (independent, assisted living, and memory care) and has the energy to be running circles around the large grounds with ease, she's got her stuff down and was able to answer all my questions! They also have a large pool equipped with a lift which will eventually host aquatic exercise classes. I can see this being a great asset to the community and will be a lovely home to many happy residents in the future.

Palm Living is WONDERFUL! I had to find a place for my 87 year old mother with Alzheimers after…read moreshe fell and broke her hip. I visited 7 or 8 in home assisted living places in Bakersfield before I decided on Palm Living. The reason I decided on Palm Living is because it was by far the cleanest, with the friendliest staff. It was also important to me that they offered 24 hour awake staff. This means that their staff is not allowed to sleep during the night. I needed to know that my mom could not get out of bed alone during the night and fall again. I am so happy with my decision to place my mom at Palm Living. They are allowed to have up to 6 residents at a time so just enough that my mom could make friends but not so many that the staff could be overwhelmed. Mom had already spent about 2 years in a very expensive memory care unit before she fell and broke her hip, but they allowed her to fall twice more after she broke her hip so we decided that we had to move her out. We were given a list of in home care facilities by mom's case worker at Optimal Hospice and we visited each of them before we selected Palm Living. The owner's name is Gurpreet and she is as sweet as can be. She and her family live right next door so they are always available, in fact she was almost always there when I visited mom. They fix wonderful home cooked meals and were very good at altering the meal to meet my mom's pureed diet needs. Every time I visited my mom was beautifully dressed and always clean and well cared for. My only regret is that I did not place my mom in Palm Living sooner. I really believe that if my mom had been at Palm Living sooner she would never have broken her hip. All of the staff is friendly and they are awesome caregivers. My family now knows that if I ever need to be placed in a care facility I want to be placed at Palm Living. I have given Palm Living 5 stars and I wish I could give them more.
