I had never stopped into Hime Hardware before. Just wanting to get a lock nut and not drive out if my way, I stopped here. An associate named Gregory greeted me and offered to help. Well lets just say they are not as helpful or nice here as K&K I choose to go to this location because its closer to my house but they act like they are doing YOU a favor when they sell you something I found the short blond haired lady to be very short tempered when being found in the wrong. orderd parts not having what you orderd etc. The drive to K&K would be worth the pleasant experience. read more

I am so fed up with Home Hardware in Davenport. On June 4th I bought a refurbished used Lawnboy lawnmower from them. I have used only twice. This past weekend the lawnmower doesn't want to start. It has gas in it, I primed it, and even disconnected and reconnected the spark plug wire. Still doesn't start. Yesterday I took it over to Home Hardware to get checked out. No service techs were on duty. I told them since I just bought the mower I felt it should get immediate attention. They said it would be 7-10 days. They said had it been a new mower it would get preference. I told them that is totally unacceptable since I just bought the mower. They told me to call on Monday and speak with the owner, Kim. I just spoke with Kim and told me the same thing. Kim was rude and didn't seem to care that I just bought something from them 3 weeks ago. I guess they won't stand behind their refurbished used lawnmowers, a product their service department refurbished. I told the owner I would stop by tomorrow to find out the status of the mower. If I don't get satisfaction tomorrow I will be demanding a refund and will buy elsewhere. UPDATE 6/28/16: The issue with the lawnmower has been resolved. I got a call this morning that the mower was ready. I went over to pick up the mower and the owner, Kim, proceeded to be rude to me. I told her I used to work for Home Hardware back in 1978 and that the previous owner, Ward Lovejoy and his daughter, Maryanne, would not have treated their customers in the behavior she was displaying. Ward would be rolling in his grave if he knew about this. I also told her that Ward stood behind the products he sold whether it was new or refurbished. Her response was, "Well, that's just too bad because I'm the owner now. Ward is not here and that's the way I conduct business." The only saving grace from this was the mower repairman, I believe his name was Ken. Ken was very polite and was very apologetic for Kim's behavior. He even helped me load the mower in the van. Because of his help I'm upgrading the rating from a 1 star to a 2 star read more

I've been going to this store for about 5 years now and for the most part have had very good experiences. I always try to visit small businesses whenever I can and the staff here has almost always been helpful and knowledgable. I never have to wait more than a minute or two before I'm asked if I need help. Much, much better than going to a big box store and even better than K&K from my experiences. read more

Home Hardware is a perfect example of why small stores are going out of business in Iowa. I am ALL for paying more for home town and family owned business' but I expect a friendly experience and a personal touch. Home Hardware is neither of those things. They do not care about their customers, will not stand behind their products and have terrible customer service. Their owners are not friendly and do NOT have the personal experience that I expect when pay more. You have lost a customer that regularly spending extra to give back to community owned business'. This is a example of why you would close down if you did not have city contracts keeping you in business. If you are not a business that needs an account, go elsewhere. Go to K & K or True Value. They want your business, Home Hardware clearly does not want it. They should be ashamed at how far they have let their business slip in the last 10 years. read more
