I specifically drove 30 minutes out of my way after work to come and buy a specific piece (a mirrored and gold side table for $89) and showed up at 6pm on the dot. They close at 6pm and their workers were still putting in the outside furniture. I asked to just look for less than 5 min since I knew what I wanted and where it was. The lady (possibly manager or owner who knows) said no sorry we're closed. I told her I just drove 30 min and need less than 5 min and she said "I know but we want to go home too". Well lady you lost out on a $90 sale AND I guess I may never come back again to furnish my empty home with furniture from your store. I was also interested in 2 white dressers with silver accenting at $299/piece which means she potentially lost the store $700 in sales on a Monday night. good job! read more

If Fred is still the jewelry dealer at this location, WATCH OUT if you give him something to sell for you. I consigned a gold pendant and chain, which they listed as separate items, each with its own price. Once the pendant was sold, and I asked what happened to the chain, Fred said that they must have thought it was one item and sold them together for the price of the pendant! I had to insist that they also pay me for the chain. Rather than receiving an apology, I was treated with rude disdain by Fred. Was he trying to cheat me out of the money for the chain? Maybe...I'll never know for sure. But I do know that I shouldn't have had to keep track of their sales, and insist on being paid. BE VERY CAUTIOUS if you sell jewelry through this store. read more

Nice enough store and sales folks. No pressure to buy anything unlike normal furniture stores and you can find some great steals. The low-rating is for their use of Robin's Relocations for delivery. Half showed up in the morning and they forgot the other half (the couch) at the store. This cost my family and I a full-day of waiting around for our delivery, which never came (almost like waiting for Comcast). The delivery is expensive and you're better off getting a U-haul or some other delivery company on your own. read more

I used to go to the Norfolk Street store in San Mateo for years. Love to stop by and look weekly for something I may fall in love with. Employees in San Mateo were always welcoming and fun and nice!! Even if they did see me often and not always making a purchase. Now at the San Carlos store, I hate walking in!! the employees there are not the same welcoming ones that were in San Mateo. I was referred to the Home Consignment Center to sell a lamp that I was no longer using. I walked into the store and up to the the counter. I greeted the sales person and she scoulded at me without saying much. I asked to consign my lamp and she replied that they did not take anything that was valued less then $99. She looked at the lamp, asked how old it was and promptly said no. During that brief sentence a co-worker walked up and interupted and asked her if she had taken her lunch. I was taken back by the fact that the customer service was cold and she had such an angry expression and was even less interested in sharing how the consignment worked. My 94 year old mother is in poor health and had to move into an assisted living facility. I had some of her household belongings moved to a storage facility there in Belmont. I contacted Home Consignment to make an assesment and we met at the facility on Tuesday morning. I drove down from Napa and met Jill and store manager Kimberly. Kimberly had the demeanor of a bull in a china shop. She took a cursery look at some of the furniture and said, "No". I said, "really", and she responded, "Well, would you want any of THIS in your home!" I was so shocked, I could only try to joke about my wife making interior design decisions. I'm not poor, and neither is my mother. Much of my mom's stuff is a bit dated, a few pieces are relatively new, but all in good condition. Decades ago, in college, I sold and delivered high end patio furniture to (primarily) Hillsborough and Atherton. I remember people like Kimberly. Perhaps I've grown unacustomed to that kind of snobbery and condenscension. Five hours of driving to be treated like dirt. Never again. Jill was polite, prompt, and accommodating, however. I found a Crate and Barrel soft rocking chair for $90 along with a really nice chest of drawers for about $400. The chair did have some discoloration from being in the sun, but all in all, the quality was great and came with a slipcover. We got an amazing deal because if you're looking for a new, soft rocking chair, that could easily cost $400-$1000. The drawers were in brand-new condition with slow-close drawers, which you don't often find anywhere. When I was looking for a chest of drawers, I wasn't ready to spend up to $1400 on the ones you might find at Crate and Barrel and other furniture stores didn't have the quality or style I like and those were going for around $800. So, all in all, we got a fantastic deal on 2 items for our baby's room! This is one of my favorite places to browse because the value and quality of items they sell and their sales associates are knowledgeable and attentive to the customer. The selection is great. I have purchased a number of pieces here. I've found a cream, linen headboard, a silver velvet occasional chair, a desk chair and a side table. All reasonably priced. Reva is very helpful. The only drawback is their delivery service is on the pricey side. They charge $112.50 for a delivery to my house that is only 4 miles away. Otherwise, it was great! read more

This place is HUGE, but sadly there were not many items here that fit my taste. I was looking for a bedroom set or items that would coordinate (dresser, nightstand, chest of drawers). There were lots of pieces here, but many of them seemed cheap and low quality. But there were a few gems here too The items here seem much more "well-loved" and well-used compared to the items I've seen at other consignment stores. Pricing here seems fair for the most part. I will probably be back here in the future for one thing or another. read more

I love shopping at the Home Consignment Center in San Carlos. Everyone on staff is knowledgeable and friendly and they always make me feel welcome. The place is huge and stocked with awesome furniture and I love the fact that I find new temptations every time I come in. I wish I had known about these guys years ago, before I wasted so much money at the retail stores (but don't worry, I'm slowly upgrading all of my stuff with help from HCC!). I'm a consignor and a customer, and have had really good experiences with Lisa, Brenda and Phyllis. They price my things fairly and reduce anything that "sits" after checking with me. Often I tell them first that it's okay to drop the price, so I don't understand the experience reported by Nancy W. Also, you cannot expect a free furniture pick up----no one would do that. This store is a great resource for selling used/refurbished pieces for a reasonable price. They have so many good pieces and an ever-changing inventory that you can go in every week and find something that you love every time! I highly recommend this store to people to either shop or consign. Both will save/make you money, and it's really fun to shop there! Kudos to a great staff---keep up the good work!I read more

Horrible horrible customer service in this place. I went in her with cash in hand and was looking for a dining room table but once I got there realized this was not the place for me. The white lady who works here treated me and my family like we were look E loos so was very short with us and not friendly when we were asking questions. I had never bought anything at a consignment store until now. My five star review is based solely on my recent find, a Frontgate teak patio set which consists of a 72-inch table and 6 chairs. The set was weathered to a grey patina finish that teak furniture enthusiasts love. The price we got for it was about 20% of what we would have paid for it brand new. It was aged but not broken down, falling apart--on the contrary. It was in great shape and only needed to be sanded and oiled. Can't comment on the customer service as we really conducted much of our business over the phone--we went in, saw the table, went home to think on it and called them back to put it on hold for 24 hours. 24 hours later, I paid for it over the phone and picked it up after 5 days (7 is their limit). But we got what we were looking for with no hassle at a fraction of the price. Will shop consignment stores again. read more

My experience has been nothing but pleasant. I have got a beautiful mahogany desk and a few other pieces and I am willing to make the drive from the City and be delighted every time by this location's variety of unique pieces, great prices and friendly staff....I have been to all the other locations in the Bay Area this one is by far my favorite.....Will be coming back to find a corner table and a mirror soon!;) thanks.... read more

For jewelry, it is ok to purchase modestly priced items but I would not recommend purchasing higher end items. They have nice looking jewelry but they can't stand by their product (the nature of consignment) and all sales are final. I learned the hard way--It is safer to go to a standard jeweler if you plan to make a substantial investment. Too bad because they do have nice pieces. read more

I cannot believe this place has this rating on yelp. This is the best furniture store on the peninsula. I've only bought items here, never sold anything. It seems like a lot of the negative reviews come from selling. All the staff I've met have been so pleasant and helpful. There are so many beautiful items at really fair prices. The inventory is very extensive and you can find really well-cared-for items at all price ranges. If you find something you love or that is a real steal, make sure you flag someone down to take the tag off it so it doesn't get snatched while you're browsing! read more

This store is absolutely great and the people who work in the store are nothing like the unfriendly sales people who work in the Mountain View Home Consignment Center. Reva is absolutely the best and she is always smiling and friendly as are the other people who work there. I have found some very good buys at the San Carlos store and prefer to shop there over the Mountain View store anytime even though I have to drive further to reach the San Carlos store. What happened to this company? When I first started going to this place a few years ago (in San Mateo and Mountain View), it was a mix of pretty interesting furniture and the staff was friendly and helpful. No more. The vast majority of the material in the San Carlos store appeared both cheap and new. For some reason, the staff were not helpful and kind of snobby. The exception at the HCC-San Carlos is the jewelry: a few very nice pieces and a helpful gentleman working at the counter. Also, no bathrooms for the public: they partially covered up the signs for the bathroom in the showroom and tell people to walk to the Starbucks. Seriously. The stores in Burlingame (around Broadway) are much better. read more

It turns out they did me a favor by treating me so poorly. I arranged a few weeks back with Kimberly (haven't seen her, so not sure if she is the one others mention in their reviews) to place several items on consignment. We exchanged emails with photos and discussed terms and prices. I arranged for movers to bring the pieces in, called Kimberly to say we were on our way, and she said - Oh, sorry, we have way too much furniture now. Had to pay the movers to take the items back to my place. Fortunately, I arranged private sales over the weekend. Everything sold immediately, and at better prices. Will not bother contacting them or shopping there ever. read more

I have shopped here for years. I have purchased many items from them. I recently sold an antique twin bed through them. It moved very quickly and got full asking price. I just contacted them again with the mate to the bed and they refused to accept it saying there was no market for it. They have refused two couches in excellent condition stating they would not sell. These couches are relatively new and identical couch styles are in most furniture stores. I sold them independently within hours of their posting on Craigslist. I purchased a Drexel Heritage buffet from them a few years ago and they carried on and on about what a valuable piece I was getting for such a reasonable price. They told me it was a "classic that will never go out of style. You'll treasure it for years." I tried to resell it through them and they said it was very dated and not the kind inventory they are looking for. I use to love this store far more than I do currently. It's not like it was when they were located in San Mateo. It was so nice and user friendly then. read more

Visited today for the first time. This location is much bigger than the old San Mateo location. Was impressed with the selection of coffee tables, chairs and jewelry - all at really reasonable price points. Not so impressed with the customer service. Twice the saleslady asked someone next to me whether they needed any help. Never asked me once. I told her I had a question, but she walked away. I walked out empty handed even though I was looking to buy a couple of armchairs. I'll be back though. Maybe next time I'll find something I really love and will encounter better customer service. read more

If I could give this shop a MINUS SCORE--I would certainly would do that!! Look at all the negative feedbacks. There is a reason!! Beware before you buy!! The MANAGER is very unscrupulous and deceptive!! They kept a furniture set on hold for me for a day and while on hold they took another offer and hold on the same item. I returned to the store the same day of my hold to pay for the items but the store had already closed. I called them as soon as they opened the next morning and told them I was coming down to pay for the furniture. The manager told me they had sold the item to another customer who they had taken a second offer from!!!! This was 15 minutes after they had opened--10:15AM-- I believe they sold the items from under me while the store was still opened the day before!!!---If this was not the case then how could she have sold the items as soon as she opened the shop at 10:00AM ??? I asked why she hadn't called me to inform me they had taken a second offer behind mine and tell me I needed to come pay for the items or they would sell to the other party. THIS WAS THE ETHICAL thing to do!!! I was the one who was first in line to purchase the items--0not the people who left a second offer!! lThis manager has no integrity or sense of right and wrong. The owners of this business should know how their manager deals with her customers!!! I told the manager that she needed to call the second people and tell them she had made a mistake and that the items were sold to the person who had them on hold--that being ME!!! She said---- " I don't call customers to tell them there is a second offer on the item they had me hold". The ethical thing to do was have one of her employees call me and inform me I needed to come pay for the items or they would have to sell to the other people--they did not have the right to sell the items with me still have those items "on-hold".. The owners of this business need to know this is how their manager does business. I wonder how the manager can sleep at night knowing how deceptive and dishonest she is?? read more
