My first experience here was the other night. I didn't know what to expect but figured it might have a similar vibe to VinoCruz. It was a little different. While I can understand the choice to not have a wait staff, I do think they're missing an opportunity. Ordering wine/beverages at a counter in front of the bathrooms, while a line forms out the door was a little off-putting and honestly, kind of awkward. Working with a paper menu on the wall versus individual menus was also a curious choice. I get the desire to be casual (like Beer Thirty) and it's missing the mark a bit. That said, all of the staff were friendly and the two items of food we ordered were very tasty. Both glasses of wine were lovely too. I'd encourage you to check it out yourself and see if it works for you. I'm optimistic it will get better with more time given how lovely their main restaurant is.

I went to Home restaurant first but they were fully booked and they recommended this sister restaurant Home Away to me across the street. Home Away just opened after months and months of delays in late 2025. Pros: + food was fresh and delicious, and a few items are from their sister restaurant Home + cute farm to table vibe with rotating menu written on butcher paper + three parking spots in front of the restaurant + wonderful cashier who was very knowledgeable about the menu and great with recommendations + food came out quickly Cons: - the party ahead of us spent about 10 minutes discussing with the cashier the menu before deciding what to eat. For a casual restaurant, you just don't expect to wait that long to put your order in... - food portion feels small for the price - I was particularly surprised at how small the cod was. Perhaps when their dish washer is fixed and these are presented on nicer plates it will feel more substantive - sign near the front informs you it's self service for water and bussing dishes, but there isn't good signage on where to bus dishes. There was another party who didn't bus their own plates and left, so I think a lot of customers probably don't pay read the signs - tipping guidelines feel ambiguous when customers wait in line to order, order and pay at the counter, self serve water and utensils, and bus dishes. The staff did cashier and provide recommendations, cook, and bring food to our table. I'd prefer if gratuity was built into the price

Cute little outdoor spots if you wanna be outside, quaint indoor tables available as well as sitting at the bar to be part of the scene.

What went well? Every single thing. Really great mellow vibe, quaint really personal spot. Home was full, but this is a walk in and order at the counter, find your spot & be delighted over and over. The Caesar salad was delicious, we finished and I immediately wanted more. Then my friend said " maybe we should get another".. we had lots of food coming though, so we held back. I'm going to try and make aioli right now because I'm one of those people that believes they can do anything, but no need to worry, when I fail I'll be back for the chicken & aioli here. The cheese plate was perfect as well. Great oysters, really tasty shepards pie. We will return, it's a sweet spot and has a neighborhood feel, even on the corner of Soquel. Oh oh oh, I almost forgot, the pate! Don't miss it. I got to meet up and catch up with friends over delicious food and wine with the nicest friendliest service & owners. Make sure you come and spend some time here. It's worth it.

Finally open after months of anticipation! We stopped in during the opening weekend. You never know what you'll get when a place first opens but they've got things pretty dialed. It is a counter order spot with menus for food and wine in a couple spots near the counter. We chose the rock cod aguachile, charcuterie board, and beef empanada. Everything was so fresh and tasted great. It paired well with the canned red wine from birichino and a GSM from Windy Oaks. The service was super friendly. Can't wait to see what else this place does!

I had the spicy Devil's Ginger vodka martini with the calamari appetizer and with dinner, the Lava Top Sauvignon Blanc ($13), a perfect complement to the swordfish. My swordfish was perfectly sautéed in a tapenade beurre blanc sauce ($40) with deliciously creamy and decadent polenta and buttery chopped bok choy. The way they served the bok choy was perfect- never change it. It was artsy, buttery and didn't look wilted. My son had the grilled boneless pork chops (two boneless chops) with fries and smoky beans ($28), loved. He devoured the berry fruit crisp à la mode for dessert ($12) and I had two small bites: It was like granola over compote with ice cream. I didn't complain. The best part was the incredibly flawless service. We could have felt rushed dining since it was towards the end of service. Instead, Genevieve paced the meal perfectly so we felt spoiled and unrushed. Next visit I would love to dine in their "secret garden" courtyard; it was beautiful. Their 'secret garden' would be beautiful for a private party like a birthday or wedding anniversary, bridal or baby shower.

Fresh Food, Kind Faces, and Honest Warmth…read more My husband and I go to Zameen often. Every visit feels warm and easy, even when the place is busy. There's a steady, friendly energy that makes you feel comfortable right away. The food is simple, fresh, and made with care. It reminds me a little of Korean bibimbap -- not spicy, but balanced and full of life. I usually get the shrimp bowl. It's cooked perfectly every time -- clean, healthy, and full of gentle flavor. The lady at the register is always kind, even when everyone's waiting. There's nothing fancy or fake here -- just good people doing their best, and it shows. The atmosphere is bright, fresh, and real. I usually stay away from places that feel tense or overly political -- that kind of energy just makes me uncomfortable. Zameen feels the opposite: open, kind, and genuine. My husband loves their huge sandwiches (they're seriously Titanic-sized!), and next time I might try the pizza too. Everything looks delicious. Yum yum yum. If friends visit, this is the first place I'd proudly take them.

Canola oil isn't considered a traditional or healthier Mediterranean option, and I had genuinely believed I was making a healthy choice by eating here. It saddens me because there aren't many healthy restaurants in Santa Cruz, and I've been a loyal customer for years. I did reach out and left a message for the owner a couple months ago hoping to understand more about this, but I did not receive a call back. I'm sharing this not to be negative, but because I truly care about this restaurant and hope they'll consider switching to a healthier oil in the future. I'd love to continue enjoying the food knowing it aligns with the values they're known for.

Finally it came into my head when my in-laws asked me where I'd like to go for dinner for my birthday! It's a small quaint indoor restaurant but outdoors has a large patio with seating too! We were sat at the round table which was quiet and intimate. Everything we tried was fantastic, the starters we had were the foccacia. It wasn't warmed which I would've preferred but it was still fluffy and tasty and served with sea lettuce butter which definitely had a hint of garlic, which always makes things better ;). Who doesn't love garlic?! The other starter we tried was the asparagus, loved it! Would totally order again! The portions were perfect for sharing for 4 of us as well. My entree I ordered the beef check gnocchi, they make their pasta in house and this was so rich and freaking tasty! Absolutely similar to a short rib. 10/10 recommend!! My husband ordered the CA strip loin, cooked perfect medium served with a garlic aioli and crispy potatoes. I got to try his and his was equally fantastic! My mother in law ordered the rock cod crudo and she shared with me as well, the chili oil really came out in flavor in the dish, it was plated beautifully as well. I think this would be a great shared appetizer for groups too. Father in law got the fried chicken, and WOW - an entire HALF chicken! So large, local chicken, fresh and flavorful. Desserts we had the pistachio pana cotta and olive oil cake, the panna cotta was FANTASTIC. You should absolutely order this if you have room! The service could have been quicker, but she was still attentive overall dining time was about 2 hours which is long in my opinion and we could've ordered more beverages and upsold us but overall this place is a must try! I had a pastrami sandwich there once before and it was pretty good, so figured this would do. Ordered the burger combo with Lentil soup. Asked for my burger medium and when it came out it was well past that and I'm pretty sure it was a frozen patty. I have frozen patties I cook at home that are great, so guessing it just wasn't very good quality to begin with. The lentil soup was flavorless and I only had a few bites before tossing out. Seasoning, a ham hock, and some aromatics would do a lot for this soup. Left feeling very disappointed as there are a bunch of more satisfying options in the area and I chose the wrong one. As I was sitting in traffic, my stomach started feeling like I ate some broken glass or something. Obviously there wasn't broken glass in the burger, just a fitting analogy. I had stomach pains for the next few hours. This is all I had eaten in like 10 hours, so I'm positive it was the burger. The woman at the counter was friendly and the place was pretty clean. I've got a pretty iron gut and it takes a lot to make it turn. Don't think I will be going back.

(I have, no joke, walked by it dozens of times without realizing it!) I found it from seeing it on a list of restaurant participants for Burger Week. Overall, I give Pete's 3.5 stars, and here's why... **Ambiance: 5 stars** With the bright and tastefully-decorated dining room along with the multiple windows overlooking the spectacular beach, you really can't beat this ambiance! Pete's has the fine-dining vibe that's perfect for that first date, anniversary or other special dining occasion when you want some quiet and mood lighting. **Service: 4 stars** We were seated right away, even without reservations. It was a Sunday, and there was no wait or crowd. Service was quick and friendly. Mid-dinner, a server broke some glassware right behind my seat and needed us to move so they could sweep under our table and feet. They ended up moving us to a better table (next to the window) instead of having us stand there to watch them sweep. Accidents happen, and I felt they handled that well. **Food: 3 stars** Every item we ordered was delicious and fresh, and all arrived quickly. However, the menu was fairly compact, and the amount of food is even more compact. I was excited Pete's had lobster rolls (one of my all-time favorite food items EVER; $28) on their menu, so I didn't hesitate to order that along with a lychee martini. My partner ordered the bolognese ($30) and an old fashioned. We ordered the polenta as an appetizer. All of it was tasty, but oh-so-small. The cheddar polenta was like a taste test size (maybe 4 TBs), and the lobster roll was the smallest I had ever seen in my life. I didn't want to be rude, but I wanted to laugh when it arrived at our table! The lobster roll was smaller than my hand. It looked like circus food with all super tiny sizes. **Price/Value: 2 stars** You don't come to Pete's for the value because the portions are.... micro. TIP: If you have a big appetite or skipped a meal that day, I suggest going elsewhere or be ready to turn over a paycheck because you'll need to order a lot to fill up. It is worth it, however, if you fancy a light-filled room with views of the sparkling ocean and sounds of the waves crashing on the golden sands of Capitola!
