DISCLAIMER: I have had really good BBQ and I have made really good BBQ Have you ever really wanted something so bad but what you got was so disappointing that you still wanted what you wanted in the first place? Well, that is the feeling you will have if you want BBQ and you come here. The customer waiting motioned to me and said, "what ever you do, don't get the mashed potatoes, they are too salty to even eat". Then I told the waitress I was struggling between the pulled pork and chicken which she replied with "if you are going to get any of the meat, the brisket is the only thing worth eating". That was a story made up, the lukewarm to cold brisket was fatty and flavorless...no smoke ring, no crisp, no flavor...gummy and tasteless. My son had their mixture of with a split with pork, chicken, sausage, and mac and cheese. He asked for no slaw and extra mac and cheese instead. The kitchen person came out yelling over to the waitress "did anyone tell them it is just a spoonful so there is no "extra" for not getting it (with air quotes) for her emphasis...we are sitting up front and can hear and see it all. Rude service free of charge. The baked beans were average for canned baked beans microwaved, as we heard the microwave go off and then our food came out. The Mac and cheese was even rejected by our 3 year old granddaughter, so that should be alarming by itself. The potato salad was much like what is in the buckets from Sam's Club. So overall, disappointing would be an improvement. The team was lacklusting, the food would be more satisfying if we chewed on napkins and plates. The service rude at best. Don't know where else you can find a chicken and dumplings place on a weekday in this area. Not only that, but they are really good. It's the drop kind and they are moist all the way to the center. (Like grandma made). The baked beans are amazing. Macaroni cheese, hash brown casserole, chocolate meringue pie, and.limoncello cake, all delicious. Will be trying more on the menu. read more

Note it's now in Ceredo! I went there for lunch last week and had their sausage sandwich. It was wonderful! Definitely one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Far superior to their old locations fares. I even asked my server where they got the delicious bun. Because of that I took my wife there for dinner last night. Incredibly disappointed. It was awful. My sausage link was smaller the toppings fewer and way past their prime. The bun was soggy . Actually dripping some yellowish something. My wife had her favorite burnt ends. They weren't. She got a mediocre portion of beef cubes in some brown gravy. With a beer and an ice tea a $25 meal.... no consistency = a gamble and one we won't repeat soon read more

I can't rate the food as I haven't tried it, but I did have a poor experience. I place an order for pick up on a Saturday. It was a large order of pulled pork and sides for a birthday party. I drove to Ceredo to pick it up on Saturday to find out that they were closed due to a water leak. Upon checking their Facebook page, the restaurant closed down on Friday. I understand not being able to fulfill my order, but it would have been appreciated to get a heads up call on Friday. That way I could have had time to make other arrangements, or the very least, not drive the 30 minutes one way to get there. read more

Having read the reviews and having met the family that's running the place, I feel that my food experience was a "one-off". So I will give a neutral rating. Staff/Service - 5 stars Food - 1 star Place is a dive. Came in at 11:08 Saturday morning and we were the only customers in but they were very busy. Advanced orders were stacked on most of the dining tables. Found out Marshall was having their Homecoming game and most of the orders were for tailgating customers. They were putting together orders or double checking orders to make sure everything ordered was all there. The staff was super friendly and accommodating even though they were not ready for customers dining in. Had to clear a table to sit us. Should have left then but was really craving barbecue and I knew they're closed on Sundays. Ordered the sampler (Brisket, Ribs & Smoked wings w/ mac n cheese & chicken n dumplings) and this is where it went downhill. Look at the photos of the plate, it didn't look appetizing, smoked wings were tough n chewy. The ribs were okay, rub had good flavor just maybe a tad heavy handed on the cinnamon/cocoa. Brisket was tender and was flavorful. My main issue was, aside for the sides, the food was cool, not cold (you know that temp where you take food out of the fridge and heat it up in the microwave but not long enough to get hot?). The steaming smoked wings photo was straight from the microwave. They looked good but imagine how smoked wings taste after being nuked to steaming level, not good :( I have to mention that their chicken n dumplings is great!! Best one I've had in all my travels. Bottom line is that I believe it was a one-off experience and I will come back to give them a try again. Super friendly people and very accommodating, one lady even gave us samples of their dessert. But I will turn around and leave if I don't see any smoke coming from the smokers - not a good sign. read more

I decided to try for the first time today and upon being greeted at the table was told they were out of all meats except for chicken and pulled pork. Server stated it was because they'd been going to festivals. Even though I went in for the brisket I decided on the pulled pork with coleslaw. The pulled pork was dry, tough and rubbery. Absolutely awful. The coleslaw came out of one of those gallon sized restaurant containers, yuck. As bad as the coleslaw was it tasted better than the pulled pork. The server was pleasant though. Too bad for them because the Huntington area is sorely lacking good, real bbq. I guess I'll have to wait until the next time I go back to home to get real barbecue. read more

Surprisingly there's not a lot of reviews for this restaurant. Very pleasant experience from the time I walked in. They all were personable. You can try any food on the menu before you buy,including the sweet tea! I had the brisket which was tender and the mild sauce was sweet enough with a tang that's not overwhelming. The coleslaw and smoked Mac and cheese was great. I'm a picky eater,didn't try the hash brown casserole(which has been highly talked about. The food was old. You could tell it had been microwaved from a few days ago. The staff was rude and short. They had to clear a table for us to sit down. A blonde woman with glasses took our drink order and came back ten minutes later with our drinks. There was a child running around the "restaurant". When we finally got our cold food there was a blonde hair in it. Not coming back. Do not recommend this place. We had to have a table cleared for us because they had all the table covered with things they were doing for the restaurant. Ok, I have eaten a lot of chicken wings in my life. I mean lots. From Buffalo to Austin and many points in between. I'm telling you right now these are the best chicken wings you will ever eat. Absolutely amazing! Also, the sides are delicious. I don't like to waste a lot in carbs but the Mexican corn, hash brown potatoes and baked beans are excellent. We worked with them to figure out how many sides we needed for 100 people. There was plenty but nothing left over. The pulled pork was also excellent. We ate at there original location and the food was much better there. The new location is bigger and nicer but the food quality has dropped. Several items on their website menu are not even offered at the new Kenova location. We arrived at 11:00 am and the smoker was even running, the owner said he was going to fire it up later today. That should have told us we were getting leftovers from yesterday's cooking. We ordered an appetizer of onion tangles and after a few minutes the waitress came back and said they ran out yesterday and haven't made any today. My friend started to order the chicken and dumplings and was told they were out of chicken and dumplings until Tuesday, I'm guessing that's when the Swanson's truck delivers their load of frozen food. My wife ordered baby back ribs and the ribs were not moist and at room temperature not HOT. My friend and I ordered the brisket philly with green peppers, onion and cheese. The onions and peppers were frozen from a bag and the cheese was sparse. Our other friend ordered a pulled pork sandwich which was also dry and flavorless. The fries we ordered were just crinkle cut fries from a bag not homemade or even spruced up. For the four of us to eat was $51 which in my opinion is high for food that was not fresh and the majority came from a bag. I was bragging to my friends how great the food was when we ate at the original location, but today I was apologizing for having brought them to the restaurant.
