We came here on a Saturday night for dinner. We had to wait about 20 minutes for our party of four to be seated. It was a little busy. Even once we were seated the server was telling us that the kitchen was a bit backed up so that is why our food was taking a little longer. Our waitress was nice and friendly. She gave us honest opinions about the items on the menu, which is always great to have. We ordered the Meggie's Bread Sticks with Cheese as our appetizer. It was delicious, especially with the added cheese. It came with some red sauce stuff to dip the bread sticks in. The pizza we got was the 14 inch Gladiator. It had 6 slices. It was good, but a bit messy (and hot when it first came out). At the end we ordered the Backyard Hay Stack (minus the nuts). That was really good as well and we devoured it. The ambience was good. It was a little loud, however it was crowded. There was a little astronaut theme going on here. I recommend coming to Backyard Pizza. read more

Family and I tried Backyard Pizza today instead of our normal stop, literally on the other side of the building The Peddler. Overall experience was positive and enjoyable. We met a former WWE wrestler who was sitting at a table, too. But back to the restaurant - the flavor is there. My one issue the bottom of the pizza dough was very flimsy on both pizzas we ordered (Kale braised and the gladiator) so the cheese and toppings slid right off when taking the first bite. Like I said the flavor is there though. Had the peddler red IPA and it was terrific. Also had a very tasty kale salad. If they get a nice soft but firm bottom to the pizza slices, this place would be a 5/5. Would we return, yes! read more

Quite possibly the best pizza I've ever had (and as a former fat kid, I've eaten A LOT of pizza)!!! I'm staying in Ashland for business and have been really craving pizza. Everyone knows that any good college town has at least a few good pizza places since college kids pretty much live on pizza (I know that I sure did), so I made the drive to Huntington to give Backyard Pizza a try. Backyard Pizza is settled in the heart of downtown Huntington, just a few miles from Marshall University's campus. Behind their unassuming store front lies a staff welcoming you at the door and pizza so good, I would have waited an hour or more if they were crazy busy. My waitress, Nadia, met me promptly and with a smile as soon as I sat down at the table...she was super friendly, attentive, and willing to answer any questions about the menu (because they have A LOT of options). I ordered the lobster sticks appetizer and the 10-inch Jamaican pizza (check out the pictures...and yes, they were both as good as they looked). I don't know how I can describe the lobster sticks and do them justice...you'll just have to try them for yourself. The Jamaican pizza was great (I got it without onions)...but I would have liked to have more zing in the jerk spice on the chicken instead of the sauce drizzled on the pizza. Regardless, of my personal preference...the pizza was fantastic! I know one thing, I will definitely go out of my way to stop here if I'm anywhere close to this part of Kentucky and West Virginia ever again. Came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon was really loved the pizza. I got a seafood fra diavolo pizza which was delicious and my husband had some type of steak pizza- I believe it was the chop house- which was also delicious. We ordered three of the 10 inch pizzas to split between three people: crab Rangoon pizza, warren pear and truffle shuffle. All three pizzas were unique flavor combinations. The pizza crust was also the perfect combination of chewy and crisp. The flavors were perfectly complementing of each other.
