*****UPDATE****** we called another company to deliver wood...the person who brought the wood this time filled up the SAME EXACT SPACE that Holtz filled up for me, however Holtz charged $250 for an ENTIRE cord, whereas the new company charged $120 for a "face" or "fire place" cord. They filled up the exact same space people!!!! Holtz was trying to charge me for a full cord of "clean, dry, treated" wood when they were giving me half that which was dirty, wet, and molded. NOTICE - I left my review.....then shortly after there are 2 more five star reviews that address the exact trouble we had with them...sounds pretty SCAMY if you ask me. But who am I? Just a sucker who almost fell for it. The new company is wonderful - message me for the contact!!! We ordered a cord of firewood from Holtz. He was prompt in responding to me and seemed friendly. I called on a Friday and he said he could have someone there to drop off and stack the wood on Monday. I also asked that he take a look at a tree in my front yard that needed to be trimmed. He called Sunday and left a message saying the delivery would take place between 8a-10a and he would take a look at the tree. The delivery drive was about 15mins last 10a, but that was no big problem because I am a SAHM. However if I had taken the morning off work to be home, even 15 mins late could be a big problem. The full cord cost $250. According to their website and from speaking with them in the phone, the wood would be a mix of "clean, dry, treated hardwoods." However instead, we got wood that was wet - damp to the touch and releasing water from ends in the fireplace - extremely dirty, growing mushrooms....I have included pictures and video. I called them to speak to someone and the man went from being friendly to extremely rude in about 2sec flat. I hung up on him because I wasn't going to listen to him try to defend his crappy product. He called me back and left a message saying he had no idea how I could have gotten that type of wood because they don't sell anything but what their website states. Sent him the same pics and videos I'm posting here. He had nothing to say except "I've done this a lot of years and I don't sell that kind of wood".......except he did. I had him come back and take his crappy product away and give me money back. I'll let you all be the judge from my pics.....but my advice - SHOP ELSEWHERE!!!!! read more

They provide the red oak firewood for my smoker, and have always been reasonably priced and provide good service, so I asked about trimming six of our trees. No surprise. Good service at a reasonable price. Trees look great. read more

This is NOT a 'local', 'your own community' tree company. The guy, in the tree, cutting, spectacular. The ground crew and supervision of the project, Epic failure! And trying to reach them, after paying in full, impossible. Do NOT use this 'service'. Use Shadywood. Shame on you Holtz Tree Service. read more

Started off great with immediate response and next day delivery. I was quoted $300 for a full 4x4x8 stack. Half of this was provided and when I called to ask questions the same fella told me he never would have said that and that a cord costs $750. The problem is that I am not stupid. We had a specific conversation about what a cord is, the size of the stack and the cost. Never using them again. Beware. Also, they stacked the wood directly in my kids sandbox. I literally drew them a map showing a dead spot in my lawn where I wanted it stacked. I'm an architect, so I kinda know how to draw something like this lol.... Live and learn. read more

Here is my experience. I phoned on Friday, left a message. He called back on Saturday. Said he would deliver within the next week. I said he needed a firm delivery time. He said OK. I will phone you on Sunday, get your address and deliver the wood on Monday morning. On Sunday no call. It is Monday night and I am starting after marking "don't do business with these people" in my Rolodex. read more

This place is a total joke. I don't know if you have ever seen the show "Swamp Loggers" but apparently that is where Holtz scores their firewood... from the bottom of some lake in the bayou. The wood that they dropped off at my house had been wet for so long that is was literally moldy and smelled like mildew. I tried to burn some. I did get it to light but the heat was literally forcing moisture to start coming out of the log. Bubbly, white water coming out of the log as it sat in the fire... Total waste of my time and money. Don't recommend. Also they quoted me $200 a half and quoted my buddy $600 a full... not sure what this is about he lives 3 miles further north than I do. read more

We have received some of the best firewood from these guys in town! They delivered and stacked the wood quickly and efficiently. Super nice and friendly to work with! This year we had them come back and remove a tree for us. Prices were reasonable and they even cleaned up everything. Awesome job! Would totally recommend to friends and family! read more

This is my favorite place to order firewood from. We don't have a truck so it's wonderful to have it delivered. They also stack it up very neatly so the wood is held in by two jenga-style stacks on either end - it looks cool and is nice and orderly. They have quick delivery, they're friendly and it seems like they're a family business. read more

Just had some tricky, VERY mature, trees removed from my backyard in Plymouth, and I couldn't be happier with the entire process from the initial quote to the completed job. We have ordered wood twice from Holtz and the first order was very good burning wood. The second order was very poor - smoky and wet and didn't burn well at all. Dave did come out to check the wood and I asked him to take some and burn it himself to see if he had the same issues. I followed up with an email to ask him about the wood and I never heard back. We would not order from them again after getting the second delivery that didn't burn well, especially since this is the first time we have had this experience with any firewood purchase. We did appreciate that he came back to check the wood. Unfortunately there was no follow up after that. read more

This company may be more focused on selling firewood than tree trimming. I set up an appt time with a company rep who said he'd come between 8-10 am. He didn't show up or call. Another company came at their time at 11:15 arriving 15 mins late but called l me at 10:50 alerting me he would be a few mins late. At 12:15 the Holtz rep showed up at my door with an explanation that he forgot. Sorry. Not professional. I don't recommend this company. read more

I recommend Holtz Firewood! We ordered our wood and it was delivered 3 days later. We keep our wood against our garage but there is a hill right behind our garage so it's tricky to put wood in on a palette. No problem for Holtz because they stack the wood by hand. It looks so organized! Fast, professional and kind. read more

AVOID THIS COMPANY Weeks ago, I asked David Holtz for an estimate for tree removal. He came out and looked over the downed trees. I told him I needed to give a written estimate to my insurer in order to get the ok to go ahead. He said they'd provide it. He did not. I asked him where it was and he said he would give me a written estimate ONLY IF I hired him to do the job. Huh? Again, I told him the insurer needed the estimate BEFORE he was hired to do the job. Just a simple one sentence email with "tree removal" and the price. I reminded him several times I needed the estimate and was again told he'd provide it. He never did. I finally wrote again this morning asking why he refuses to provide a simple estimate. He wrote back claiming he gave me a verbal estimate (he did not) and that he would give me a written estimate ONLY if he was hired to do the job. I again explained the insurer needed the written estimate FIRST and then can proceed with removal, not the other way around. All I got was a snotty response. AVOID THIS GUY. read more
