Picked up Toby today. I was absolutely exhausted and thought that I needed to rush over and get…read morehim. Helen assured me that there was no rush, that they would be there all day. That was so NICE! Toby was clean and happy to see me! They even gave him a bath! Helen said that she always watches for tail wagging. Helen and I had a nice conversation. She's really lovely, and truly LOVES dogs. She's very concerned about their health and happiness. I appreciate the fact that she won't just take any dog for boarding without knowing about vet visits, shots, etc, and prefers dogs that she sold. When I arrived, there were larger dogs playing outside, in a fenced area. Toby was waiting for me with his raincoat, toy, and hoodie all bagged up. Helen showed me the outside play area for small dogs, and told me that Toby had been playing with her Maltese, Sophie. I met Sophie :) Then Helen showed me the puppy room. OMG!!! So many absolutely adorable puppies, including Shih Tzus like Toby! I saw poodle puppies exactly like my brother's family dog. Everything that I saw was very clean, and the dogs and puppies looked healthy and well-cared for. I read the bad reviews. I like Helen. I think that if she doesn't want someone to have a dog, she has a reason. My brother's family has had their puppy for about a year now, and he's perfectly healthy. Noisy, but healthy. Helen did advise me about a group of basically criminals (HSUS), which includes people convicted of sexual harassment, embezzling, child sex trafficking, fraud, and racketeering. Interesting. They're supposed to be a humane society. So I wonder if possibly some of these reviews are perhaps not entirely accurate. But I can only speak to my own experience boarding Toby for 9 days, and my brother's family dog.

BEWARE. This place…read moreis definitely a puppy mill and I'm not sure how it's legal. I realized after entering and seeing the amount of dogs and how unsanitary it looked. The lady Helen also immediately upon meeting us declared we would get cancer because we live in a town that has a plume problem and kept referring to us as the cancers, I'm not sure what fifth dimension she lives on but she didn't make much sense the entire time. Luckily I'm fine dealing with unhinged people but being told I'm bound to get cancer because of where I happen to live was top tier sales. This lady wins the award at being rude. We came here because it was advertised as a local breeder with parents nearby and humane. It was anything but humane. We did see a dog we absolutely loved and at this point just wanted to get it out of this situation. When we asked the price she said $1200 at first, that turned into $2000 and when we called her my husband made the mistake of saying we loved the dog and suddenly price was $3500 and I have worked professionally training breeds - it was not a full breed. We were not willing to pay that much to save the puppy from there and felt conflicted because we didn't want to support an institution that treats dogs this way... It should be shut down. It's disheartening to see puppies in such cramped conditions. We ended up finding a local breeder an hour out that raises them in her home and treats her dogs like royalty. We are also paying way less than what she priced her dogs... We would just adopt if we didn't need an allergen friendly dog. We waited patiently for one to pop up on all the rescue groups with no luck...so please don't come at me (trust me I rather adopt it's cheaper). Either way, don't support this woman. She is rude and treats her dogs terribly. She will also price raise at a whim. Your choice.

I got my now 9 month old shih-poo pup there and I have mixed reviews. I am in love with my new baby…read moreand grateful to have a (so far) healthy spunky and smart little boy. However, it was so uncomfortable to deal with one member of she staff. She was dismissive of my husband and I because we both work- although my husband works from home. The fact that she would verbalize such clearly sexist and classist tones to customers paying a STEEP price tag is insulting to say the least. She also was not up front about our dogs parentage until we picked him up! While I have no complaints about my pup- it still indicates poor professionalism.

Title: I should have adopted a dog…read more On August 31st, I called Petite Pets. Our family was in double mourning. First, our 16 year old poodle had passed away. Second, our family had traveled all the way to Manhattan to adopt a Bichon...only to find out she had passed away before we arrived. I told myself I would NEVER buy a dog. Adopt don't shop. Right? Well not when you drive home from Manhattan with crying 2.5 year old twins. Tinsy went to heaven? Chloe too? Why mommy? So, I called the puppy store near my house; Petite Pets. A lovely woman named Beth encouraged me to come in, "We have the perfect dog for you...he's a little older...his name is Griffin". I wisely came in without my children because I didn't want them to be let down again. However, I fell in love at first sight with this little guy. His sad eyes, his long curly hair, the fact that he was a "leftover". I promptly called my husband and had him bring my girls over to meet him. Beth was right, Griffin was the perfect dog for us. At the time, $1150 was more money than we could afford and frankly against my morals and beliefs but we were IN LOVE. Beth explained that Griffin had been heavily discounted because he was "older" at 7 months old. Now here's when I regretted my decision: this past weekend, after owning Griffin for only 5 weeks...he started to limp, and not bear any weight on one leg. Concerned, my husband brought him right in to Dr. Alison Rhein of Dix Hill Animal Hospital. Incidentally, Dr Ali is also the owner of Petite Pets. At that time she diagnosed our poor Griffin with Legge Perthes, a hereditary disease that needs to be surgically corrected. The xrays cost 350$ and the surgery will cost $2500. Wow! We thought, "I'm sure Dr. Ali and Petite Pets will DO THE RIGHT THING." Wrong. Very wrong. Petite Pets has offered to offset the cost by 1150$(the original cost of our Griffin). This means, our grieving family will be out $1700. This $1700 is probably NOTHING for the owner of two businesses in Huntington BUT for our young family it will be the difference between being able to afford pre-school, a family vacation or even Christmas presents. We know our sweet fur baby needs the surgery and therefore we will pay.
