I got my now 9 month old shih-poo pup there and I have mixed reviews. I am in love with my new baby and grateful to have a (so far) healthy spunky and smart little boy. However, it was so uncomfortable to deal with one member of she staff. She was dismissive of my husband and I because we both work- although my husband works from home. The fact that she would verbalize such clearly sexist and classist tones to customers paying a STEEP price tag is insulting to say the least. Title: I should have adopted a dog. On August 31st, I called Petite Pets. Our family was in double mourning. First, our 16 year old poodle had passed away. Second, our family had traveled all the way to Manhattan to adopt a Bichon...only to find out she had passed away before we arrived. I told myself I would NEVER buy a dog. Adopt don't shop. Right? Well not when you drive home from Manhattan with crying 2.5 year old twins. Tinsy went to heaven? Chloe too? Why mommy? So, I called the puppy store near my house; Petite Pets. A lovely woman named Beth encouraged me to come in, "We have the perfect dog for you...he's a little older...his name is Griffin". I wisely came in without my children because I didn't want them to be let down again. However, I fell in love at first sight with this little guy. His sad eyes, his long curly hair, the fact that he was a "leftover". I promptly called my husband and had him bring my girls over to meet him. Beth was right, Griffin was the perfect dog for us. At the time, $1150 was more money than we could afford and frankly against my morals and beliefs but we were IN LOVE. Beth explained that Griffin had been heavily discounted because he was "older" at 7 months old. Now here's when I regretted my decision: this past weekend, after owning Griffin for only 5 weeks...he started to limp, and not bear any weight on one leg. Concerned, my husband brought him right in to Dr. Alison Rhein of Dix Hill Animal Hospital. Incidentally, Dr Ali is also the owner of Petite Pets. At that time she diagnosed our poor Griffin with Legge Perthes, a hereditary disease that needs to be surgically corrected. The xrays cost 350$ and the surgery will cost $2500. Wow! We thought, "I'm sure Dr. Ali and Petite Pets will DO THE RIGHT THING." Wrong. Very wrong. Petite Pets has offered to offset the cost by 1150$(the original cost of our Griffin). This means, our grieving family will be out $1700. This $1700 is probably NOTHING for the owner of two businesses in Huntington BUT for our young family it will be the difference between being able to afford pre-school, a family vacation or even Christmas presents. We know our sweet fur baby needs the surgery and therefore we will pay. read more

I just finally brought home my new baby boy "Archie" and he is the sweetest tiny teacup Malshipoo! I cannot tell you what a great overall experience it was from start to finish. I was passing by the store and decided to stop and take a look on a Saturday afternoon last week. And less than a week later Archie is home and the whole family could not be more pleased. Lisa who was so difficult at the onset because I didn't have an appt and had to beg borrow and steal just to get a glimpse of the puppies available. This place really cares about the puppies and could care less about making a sale. In fact she tried to discourage me several times. She interviewed me like I was adopting a child and I am not exaggerating. Lisa only cares about one thing and one thing only that her babies are placed in a warm loving home and needs to size you up in a very short period of time and that is not an easy job. She asked some very personal questions and my girlfriend who was with me was like "how could she ask such questions". I see all the negative reviews and now I understand why. Lisa's first priority is for the health and well being of the pups and whether or not the customers lifestyle will not only be a good fit but she actually takes into consideration the personality of the particular dog. I can certainly see her turning off and insulting many people but it's because just because someone who comes in with cash and wants a dog doesn't necessarily mean you are leaving with one at this place that's for sure! She spent so much time after the sale explaining and going thru in such detail step by step on what to do and how to do it I ended up spending over 2 hours and missing two appointments that I had. I have been home for a few hours and Lisa has texted me numerous times already. I am just blown away by the care and genuine concern. I never write reviews I have many more important things to do with my time but honestly when the experience was this great I felt compelled to share my opinion. Petite pets is a great place! I have been getting my dogs groomed here for years. The previous groomer, Lou, always did a great job. Since they have a new owner, who is a vet at Dix Hills Animal Hospital, and new groomers we have had a terrible experience every time. Today was the worst. Our small dog was there for 5 hours and still was not ready. He has diabetes and Cushing's disease. He needs to drink a ton of water throughout the day. We called multiple times and the groomer kept saying "it takes a long time, we work on him and put him back then work on him again later" then she was complaining about Covid and having to do curbside pickups taking too much time. Finally we came to pick him up and said whether he was done or not we wanted to take him home. A male groomer/assistant came running out with him and tossed him to me like a ball. When I asked why he would do that the female groomer said "well we're very upset with you!" When we got home our dog's head, tail and feet had still not been done and giant clumps of fur were falling off of him. He was even bleeding on his leg. I believe he sat in a cage all day until we called the last time then they quickly did what they could. He seems dizzy and disoriented, unable to walk easily. Our appointment had also been rescheduled multiple times over the last month. They are extremely unprofessional, unorganized and perhaps overwhelmed. Other people there waiting for their dogs said their dogs were also there all day long. One woman was upset because they couldn't find her dog's harness or leash. We brought another one of our dogs there last month and she was there over 4 hours and all they did was shave her (despite the fact that we did not want them to shave her hair short). We will never return to this location! read more

Came here the other day and never felt so discriminated prior to stepping into this "business" :( First we weren't even greeted after stepping in the door... rude. Second, they asked us if we stepped into another pet store before going there and so I said yes. And they said since we went to another pet store, we aren't allowed to touch the puppies bc might get them sick. Trust me, I completely understood bc I don't want the puppies getting sick either!!!!!! When I mentioned that I didn't touch the puppies they said it could still be airborne. If it's airborne why was I still allowed in the puppy nursery??????? Lol. Anyways they also sneakily implied that I couldn't afford the puppies here and recommend another place. This establishment is maintained to the highest standard of cleanliness and maintained to ensure the health of every animal. My puppy is now almost 6months old (MALSHIPOO). These puppies come from a breeder who specializes in "designer dogs" a term that pertains to mixed small breeds... Maltese, yorkies, shitsus, and poodles . I fell in love with my puppy at first sight (she was too young to take home) however at 12 weeks of age I was able to take her home. The staff (Bree, Beth, Lisa and Marylin ) were most knowledgeable and supportive. I would strongly recommend Petite pets . My family and I were ready after losing our two fur babies back in 2018 and 2019. We explored different options and finally decided to make an appointment with Petite Pets Puppy Boutique. I'm going to start with, "they (Lisa and Beth) were fabulous to work with." And the puppies! Oh, the puppies!! I never thought I could sit in a room full of puppies and not have to raise the octave of my voice to have a conversation. A quiet puppy room is unheard of. That was very telling of the temperament of the puppies. You can tell they are all loved while they wait for their forever home. I was honored to take one of their favorites with us along with another, I have no doubt, they loved just as much. They know the energy level of all of their puppies and will find you the best match. I feel like our (formerly, Reese and Hazel) now Chewie and Honey were absolutely for us. We couldn't be happier. Thank you Lisa and Beth. We are only two days in and we love them already. If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. It doesn't deserve even a one star review! My family and I went to this place to purchase a puppy. Our dog had passed away months ago and we were finally ready to find a new family member. We saw NUMEROUS nasty reviews about this business but decided to disregard them and see it for ourselves. The old, white, short looking, blond haired lady that works there (around 60 years old) was rude, presumptuous and discriminating towards people who aren't in the 1%. Right off the bat, she looked at us assuming we were a couple that didn't have enough money because we both work. She had a HUGE PROBLEM with us because we were teachers and that I wasn't a stay at home mom. She expects her clients to all sit with their dogs because leaving them alone for 6 hours would kill them. She implied that had my husband been independently wealthy, then she would have sold us her dogs. And yet when asked who stays with her dogs when the business closes for the night, she had no answer for that. Then minutes later she came up with a lame excuse and said, "Oh well I have other staff that checks up on them in the middle of the night." When we called her excuses "B.S.," she said "Well the puppies also have each other so that's why it's fine to leave them for 14 hours during their closing time." Another person that left a review here had also said that this woman discriminated her because of the color of her skin. She had ASSUMED that this potential buyer was too poor because she wan't white. Nasty old, racist lady. On Oct 31st, 2020 my husband and I brought home our beautiful fur baby Annie Frances. Lisa and the entire staff at Petite Pets were loving, caring, and so kind taking us through the process of finding our little one. The way they care for the puppies they have is exceptional and I admire the high standards they set. What I admire even more is their amazing follow through in keeping in touch. Even 6 months after getting Annie, I feel comfortable enough to call and ask for advice only to be greeted with love and warmth. Lisa and staff were very friendly and you could tell the pups were loved and cared for. Definitely pricey, I think due to covid. However, there is room to negotiate a little. One of his liter mates had went home prior to be getting my puppy, and had parasites. She treated my puppy because they were in close contact, and I have to say he was parasite free and got a clean bill of health at my vets office. Although I have never purchased a puppy from here, I can give a review on the grooming aspect and boutique. I brought her in today when my other groomer was booked, and I'm glad he was. When I walked in the boutique itself was beautiful and I was directed to walk back to the grooming station. I was greeted by a man (did not get his name) who was very friendly and kind to my nervous fur baby. I asked for a teddy bear cut and an hour and a half later she was ready and looking fabulous! She had a lot of tear staining that he was able to almost disguise/eliminate completely and her cut was exactly as I had visioned. Highly recommended for grooming, excellent work and very reasonable prices for the quality. As for the boutique, beautifully set up with lovely dog beds, outfits, etc. They had a nice selection and really beautiful items. A little on the pricey side, but really beautiful things you won't be finding at your local petsmart. Only downfall, the girl at the desk could've been more welcoming/friendly, as it was my first time there. That I don't mind though, as long as my pup comes out looking great and the groomer treats her with love that's all I care about! Recommended! read more

I bought my first dog an adorable poosh Teddy from there 5 years ago had a great experience he's a wonderful dog. So when we went to purchase a second puppy a little over 2 years we went back. We didn't realize at first that the place had changed ownership since we bought Teddy. We found a very cute dog another Poosh. My daughter loved he. The thing was his tongue stuck out of his mouth. I asked why his tongue stuck out and was told it was because all his teeth hadn't come in. I didn't think anything of it and we purchased the dog. We named him Rex. We took him to our vet and they were not able to open his mouth to check on why his tongue was sticking out they said when they neutered him and he was under they could check it out. It turns out his whole mouth inside had deviations and he has neurological issues in other words he is "special" I contacted petite pets saying how did they not know there was something wrong with him. And I wanted at least a partial refund for him. They told me I would have to speak to the owner who is get this a Vet Dr Alli who owns Dix Hills Animal Hospital. I called her took Rex in to have her check him out. Oh he also started growing this bump under his arm. She said he's fine the bump was an ingrown hair. gave me a brush off. And I left. Really mad at myself for not speaking up. The bump kept growing and looked like a giant testicle hanging under his arm. I took him to my vet they said it was benign just ugly but it should be removed to avoid infection. I had my husband call Dr Alli again and say I wanted money back for this dog he isn't healthy. She said to bring him back again. I did she looked at the hanging thing said she would remove it at no charge then looked in his mouth and said there are deviations in it and he might have issues later on that she would take care of it. I took him in to her to have the thing removed and got a call to pick him up he is very pale and take him to the emergency hospital. I left work picked him up she had the nerve to charge me $225 for blood work. Took him to the emergency hospital turns out he had an auto immune disease they weren't sure he was going to make it. Just before this I said to my husband I'm getting a bad feeling I think we are going to have issues with Rex let's get insurance for him. Thank goodness we did. The first bill was $3500 dollars. I was asking the vets and the techs about Rex they all thought he was a rescue and when I told them I bought him for $2300 they said he should have never been sold they should have gave him to us. It took over 6 months for Rex to get better and another few months for the dangling thing to be removed. The day after surgery Dr Alli called to see how he was and to tell me I should bring him to my vet to have the stitches removed. My vet was nice enough to do it at no charge. Dr Alli also said to me that Rex is a really sweet dog even though he is special. Obviously she knew he was special finally admitted it. Don't ever go to Petite Pets to purchase a dog! Petite pets is one of the most reputable puppy stores on Long Island. They have used only one breeder for almost 30 years which almost guarantees an extremely healthy puppy. Their puppies are bred for temperament and health and the lines from these puppies go back 30 years. It is absolutely not a puppy mill, and I've never seen such staff care and love the puppies as much as they do. When people say that they are rude or that they judge them, it's only because of how protective and how much love they have for these puppies. I spoke to one of the sales people about it after reading a couple of bad reviews, and I was informed it was because they wanted their puppies placed into the best homes where they're loved and taking care of. They went on to further explain that the reason why they ask so many questions when anybody walks in the door is to make sure that they're puppies are placed in the perfect home. I was told very often especially on the weekends people go from puppy store to puppy store and many of those puppies are sick, and although they didn't touch a puppy, many of the illnesses that these other puppies have are airborne and can be on their clothing. I've come to the conclusion that when you work in a public business you cannot please everybody. You really need to go in there and judge for yourself. Lastly, I did wind up purchasing a beautiful little girl Shorkie from them (I also have rescue animals). As far as the vet is concerned, I also use Dr Ali at Dix Hills Animal Hospital. Every one of her doctors including herself are amazing. I sincerely cannot be more pleased with the staff, their puppies and the vet they recommend. read more

My family and I purchased our cute Poosh(shitzu-poodle) from this store on 9/11. We looked at many pet stores and didn't find the puppy we were meant to have . We decided to take a drive (about 1 and a half) and this by far was the Best pet store we visited , not too mention so many adorable puppies!! . It was so clean and the puppies were not in cages!!! We even had to clean our hands before touching each dog!! My vet says he's very healthy!! I felt I had to give a review especially since I use Yelp and since there was so many positive reviews on here we decided to visit this store and ended up getting our newest family member!! I dropped my dog to get groomed after being a loyal customer for over 5 plus years and when I picked him up less than two hours later he wasn't breathing right and died a hour later ...... I have called the owner Barbara.... Stopped up at petite pets ..... Tried to talk to Lou the groomer just so I could get some answers for closure and try to understand what happened or how he was while he was being groomed ..... The animal hospital told me he was definitely in major distress and they should have seen this and signs of not breathing right while my poor little dog was there and maybe could have called me Instead of leaving him alone in his cage ....Teddy has been a part of our family for 10 years and he was never sick and when I dropped him off he was wagging his tail and his ears were going up an down while I left and said I will be back to pick you up soon..... We are so heart broken and it's worse because the way that we were treated from the owner she did not care to even call us to say sorry or try an talk to Lou the groomer to find out what happened ....teddy was not only breathing very bad but he couldn't even stand on his legs !!!!I just hope that no one takes their dog to get groomed her because u might not see ur loved one again and this place is not only groomers but they sell puppies also ..... I purchased my beautiful, baby boy Morkie at Petite pets in April of 2012 when he was 4 months old. I couldn't have asked for a better puppy. He was loving, well behaved, energetic and quickly became the "apple of my eye". He was a huge part of my family! I even returned to Petite Pets to have him groomed regularly. Sadly, before my baby boy reached the ripe old age of two, he passed away from an idiopathic disease. He began having seizures and even with the best of care (puppy neurologist) he succumbed to his disease on October 3. He died within ten days of his first seizure. The hardest part is that no one from Petite Pets sent one condolence, even though they were kept apprised of the situation. I guess appearances can be misleading. Needless to say, when I am ready to move on with a new pup it will not be at Petite Pets. read more

Purchased a Morkie from Petite Pets 3 years ago, The store is very clean and dogs are very well taken care. My dog was in excellent health from the day we got him.. I would highly recommend Petite Pets to anyone wanting to buy a small breed dog. As far as people complaining about not being able to hold the dogs when you walk in. GOOD they shouldn't be held by everyone just walking in. If you are truly serious about buying a dog they will let you hold them. Don't get me wrong the place was clean, great environment and awesome staff. They really do love there puppies, but they inbreed them ! I have a Noelia from them, ever since he was 4 months he's very aggressive with taking things from him. He attacks you if you touch him wrong or upset him. I've been to many trainers and vets & with there experience they have told me he is inbreed and is probably in every heat. It's upsetting because he is my child and I love him more than anything but please don't spend your money there. Research and find a better place !! read more

Three of the four dogs I purchased here developed various illnesses and suffered seizures of unknown origin. My 6 year old just died last week from a brain disease known as GME. Aside from my devastating loss, the owner's lack of interest in the health of pets she has sold is astounding. I reached out to her twice for recommendations of veterinarians who might be able to help my sick pet and received NO RESPONSE either time. i would never buy a puppy from this place. we were turned off from the minute we walked in the door. we were not greeted properly at all, they were very rude and not welcoming at all. we were asked if we have been to other pet stores and i honestly answered yes. we did go to one pet store before we went to petite pets where we did not handle any puppies because that store did not allow it, then we went to dinner, before going to petite pets, and i explained to her that our hands have been washed. i could not believe it.....she told us to shower and come back tomorrow to see their puppies. i should have walked out of the store then, but at the time i just took it in stride. i explained to her that we did not handle the puppies in the other place as they did not allow it and we went to dinner afterwards where we washed our hands. she said that it didn't matter, that the germs from puppies in the other place could have gotten on our us and could transfer to their puppies. even though we did not touch the puppies in the other place, she said it could be on our clothes. instead of leaving, which we should have, we were allowed to view their puppies without any contact at all. this place should not be in business. i hope the cute puppies find good homes but petite pets should not be in business because they do not know how to be professional when dealing with customers. how do you fu....ing tell your customers to go home and shower and then come back to see their puppies. it is such a terrible way to handle customers that are truly serious about getting a new member of their family. it's really a shame. they should not be in business at all!!! do not buy from them....if they treat customers like this, i could only imagine how they treat their puppies. they don't even deserve a one rating. read more

I just bought a dog at Petite Pets and am really happy. She is smart, has a good temperament, and is healthy. Lindsey who works there (I think every week day, all day) was so helpful and friendly to me. I had to wait a while to get my dog and she gladly talked to me on the phone almost everyday when I called to see how my dog was! She texted me pictures and was very professional. She knows what she's doing when it comes to taking care of animals. I was glad my dog was in the care of her. I would refer other people to this place because the dogs are awesome and Lindsey is so helpful before and after the purchase of your dog. read more
