We tried their Garden swirl and the famous Almond Butterhorn. Both were not that buttery and somewhat bland but we liked them as what they were. Their pastries were good to go for our bike trip. We visited the next morning again before boarding the ferry and this time we had the fruit scone. The berries in it were very juicy. We really enjoyed sharing this scone. Thanks Holly B's bakery for helping us to creat such lovely memories on Lopez Island. We fell in love with the Island even more thanks to you guys!

Really good bakery. Not super sweet, which I really liked and the brownie was really yummy. There could be more variety though.

Lovely local café on Lopez Island. I love to sit on the terrace and people watching…read more I've been here three times over two trips. The seasonal menu was fun. I tried the honey ginger matcha (with soy milk), a pretty decent drink for fall. The ginger added an extra touch of spice to the matcha, yet it wasn't overwhelming. The only flaw was that my first cup of matcha had some powder chunks in it.

Love that the coffee shop features seasonal drinks because in some of the coffee shops in the San…read moreJuan Islands, all they offer is the basic coffee drinks. I'm not a coffee drinker so what sells me is unique drinks, worthwhile to visit. We tried the pistachio white chocolate mocha and rosey matcha. I loved that they gave me the option to add whipped cream for the mocha to make it more aesthetic and complete. The mocha didn't have much notes of pistachio but it was fairly sweet and creamy. The rosey matcha had a more apparent flavor but otherwise felt fairly standard for a matcha. There's another major coffee shop in Lopez Island nearby, so either here or there would be good candidates for coffee or other drinks that are more innovative than the standard I wish they published prices for the seasonals since we were left to guess and wait for the total, in which case may be awkward to ask for a breakdown of the drink prices. For my visit, we paid $12.31 approx for 2 drinks

You can tell this restaurant cares deeply about craft... not just in execution, but in intent. The menu didn't feel like it was trying to cater to trends or preferences. It felt like the chef had a clear point of view, and the food followed that vision. I appreciated that a lot. The salmon and veal were both beautifully executed. And though we don't drink alcohol, we were offered two beautiful non-alcoholic pairings (one sparkling, one rose) rather than the usual soda fallback. It made us feel cared for, not sidelined :) Pastry-wise, the brioche, olive oil cake, and macaron were all excellent. I'm lowkey regretting not staying until Sunday to try the pastry pop-up. Before the final course, we were offered a lemon and lovage sorbet as a palette cleanser. Somehow it made me laugh because it reminded me exactly of a Chinese herbal remedy (藿香正气水) I used to take in the summer in China. Not a critique, just a funny flavor memory I wasn't expecting in a fine dining environment and so uniquely contextual to my own cultural background. That said, for an elevated experience, I do think every touchpoint matters. And this is why I'm taking off one star. The bathroom missed the mark. The lights are on a timer (which I didn't realize until they shut off while I was inside and I thought it was motion activated. I ended up waving my arms like a wacky inflatable tube man haha), and somehow there was only one paper towel left, and the soap dispenser was visibly dirty. Small details, but noticeable in an otherwise polished evening. All in all, this is clearly a passionate team doing thoughtful work. With just a bit more attention to the details beyond the table, it could be truly seamless.

I had dinner recently at Walden with my friends while on holiday in the San Juans…read more We had the tasting menu at the chef's table. And we added the wine pairings because why not? This place was absolute perfection from start to finish. Relaxed but upscale environment. Friendly, knowledgeable and attentive staff. The sommelier was also great. He was so clearly loving his job and it showed. He described each wine and its characteristics with enthusiasm and excitement. This was the first time I'd ever had wines that were so nicely paired with each course. Quite eye opening, for me at least. You can take a look at my menu pics to see what each dish was and its accompanying wine. However, keep in mind the menu changes often and they close for the Winter season in November. We had the very best time and if you're in the SJI and like good things, this is a place you must go. We plan to come back again soonish. Thanks!
