Great old fashioned candy store. All the store on the square are really great. My kids love to go to Holland's after school.

Review Visit: October 28th, 2014…read more Not an actual factory. Short story time: Back before I started traveling, I once thought the Cheesecake Factory was a building that churned out cheesecakes. I took the name literally and was confused on why people loved the place. Turns out, it's a delectable restaurant that just looking at the menu will exceed your daily recommended caloric intake. Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is no Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory. It's your typical small store that has a ton of goodies inside. Everything from sweets to things that are nutty and everything in-between. Matt, Tim, and I wandered in during a day of hitting up a few Peoria locations. We came here after The 50's Diner to get our dessert fix. I've been to a few baked goods/candy stores at this point in time but I am never not amazed at the variety of goodies they offer. A lot of them carry some of the same chocolate-covered (item) but so many of them do it in their own way. Or do their unique twist on it. That's why I love small chain/locally owned businesses. They all have that personal touch that seems to be missing from Big Name Stores. Tim ended up stocking up on some goodies. Matt got a small item or two. I snagged a cookie or two. I don't remember what cookies I got but I do remember it being pretty dang good. I ended up eating it as we walked back to my car. To rewind time a bit, before we headed in to the store, we stopped and took photos with this giant bear that was sitting on a bench outside. That's just the nature of these kinds of things. If you can pose/sit with a goofy thing, you gotta take a photo with it. Lets wrap this up. If you need a chocolate covered (item), Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory can hook you up. It might be a smaller business but they do have multiple locations, so check their website below if you are interested in checking them out. I can't promise you they will have a bear to take a photo with but if you go and there is one, do yourself a favor and take a fun photo with it. Sometimes we need to throw off the burdens of being an adult and let our inner child out.

Environment: GREAT I will definitely come there again!…read moreThe environment is so nice. And the mini golf was so much fun in such a beautiful place!

Review Visit: June 13th, 2016…read more A perfect combination of fun and delicious. I have, admittedly, been here many times before June 13th. But that is neither here nor there. The only thing you need to know is that this place has cheap mini golf and some of the best ice cream around. The mini golf portion is about $5.50 a person, young ones being cheaper. The course is your typical 18 holes. But this course is quite challenging and I have only sunk a few Hole-in-Ones here. There is a sweet deep blue fountain/waterfall that runs through most of the park. My ball has gone in the water more times than I care to admit. The challenging but fun course aside, the real gem here is their ice cream. Imported all the way from Madison, Wisconsin, this is some of the best that I have. It easily is in my Top 3. My usual is a Caramel ChocoLatte. Sooooo good. The company they get it from is called Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream and I really want to visit Madison, Wisconsin one day to have ice cream directly from them. All in all, a great place to spend an afternoon putting balls and devouring ice cream. This is actually one of the few places on my blog that falls into two categories. Mini Golf and Ice Cream Shack, since you can pop in and enjoy ice cream without ever stepping on the green.

Each flavor tastes intentional, not like an afterthought. The atmosphere adds to the experience. It's warm and inviting--somewhere you can sit and catch up with a friend or just enjoy a quiet moment with a scone and good cup of coffee. Service is friendly and genuine, which makes a difference. You don't feel rushed, and you can sense how much they care about what they're serving.

Four scones and thirty years ago…read more.. This place is hopping! Maria and I made plans to get some coffee and I suggested Four30 scones since it's been on my radar for a few years now. We dropped in around 10:30am and almost all the indoor and outdoor seating was full with a line from the register to the door near the registers once we got in line. Maria was getting a bit flustered at how busy it was but I could tell the staff was doing their best and going as fast as they could since they also had a long drive-thru line to contend with. I grabbed my usual americano and since I was hungry, I got a cheddar bacon sausage biscuit to give my coffee something to wash down. Despite how busy it was, both the drink and the sandwich came out fairy quick. The americano was a bit inoffensive, which is a bit of a letdown since I love a good strong punch of bitter with them. It was still good, flavor-wise, just a bit of a miss on the bitter. The cheddar bacon biscuit sandwich was good but as I reflect back on it, I think it was about $6 for a small sandwich and it seemed like one they had pre-made and just heated up. Again, good but not much bang for my buck but that might just be the world we live in these days. Once the crowd finally died down, Maria and I headed outside and chatted until the afternoon sun started to bake us alive. Getting baked by the sun at a bakery. Haaaa! With how busy it was, the interior of the place is pretty small, so if you are going to try and settle in to do some homework or work meetings, this might just not be the place for you. Quick little hangouts or grab and go is the best option for this place. Overall, I think Four30 Scones was pretty good and I would go back if I was in the area. Parking can get pretty tight if they are busy and the drive-thru seemed to be non-stop hopping so that's a good indicator that this place is going to become a Morton staple if it hasn't done so already. On a side note, there is a big glass window that lets you see into their bakery operations if you are inclined to watch them make the scones. I didn't get to snap a photo since the seats in front of the it were occupied.
