From the Berlin Hauptbahnhof, we had to take a 15-minute taxi to get this to hotel, but honestly, being near major sights is a highlight of this hotel. We booked our rooms through Expedia and were able to check in no problem. Our room was on the 5th floor, which is one of the designated "Quiet Floors." I tell you, this floor was definitely quiet. Our room had a king-sized bed and each side had its own small comforter for each person, which was perfect as my husband tends to hog the sheets. The bathroom was also spacious and had ample counter space for our toiletries. The room was also clean, except for the room phone had dust and caked up gunk in the receiver, but for the most part, everything else about the room was clean. The breakfast buffet was from 6:30am to 11am every day. We paid extra to have the breakfast buffet, and the options were pretty extensive: yogurts, cut veggies, cut fruit, breads, jams, an assortment of teas, a coffee machine, fruit juices, meats, eggs, hash browns. Everything is self-serve aside from the area where you can order freshly-cooked eggs. You had the option of ordering either eggs Benedict, poached, or scrambled and adding veggies and some meats. There were very few vegan options available like almond milk and cereal, however. Since I follow a more dairy-free diet, I stuck to eating more heartier breakfast items. My family looked forward to eating breakfast every morning because it was so good. Also, the eating area was immaculate and the staff were always diligent in taking your empty plates. Outside/next to the hotel, there is a barsturaunt, which always had many patrons. There is also designated taxi parking right in front of the entrance, so you will not have to wait long to get a taxi. My parents were able to get free bathrobes from the front desk and use the sauna. They said the sauna was consistently at the perfect temperature every night they used it. Overall, when we return to Berlin, this will be our choice of hotel again.

For comparison I have stayed at the SwissHotel in Berlin center, which is a nice stylish hotel, located directly in the middle of the city. Perfect if you have business nearby, but a SwissHotel is the same in any city in the world. In contrast, Haus Leopold is in an actual neighborhood of Berlin (Zehlendorf is my favorite part of Berlin, but that is because my father grew up here and I spent many summers here). In the morning kids walk past on their way to school, people commute to work and ride their bikes to the supermarket. Nothing like that happens in center city Berlin. This hotel is quiet, with generous rooms (there is even a room with 4 beds for a family). The owners are very helpful and the breakfast (included) is very generous. If you have a rental car, there is free parking and the location is close to Route 115, which encircles the city, so it's great for trips to Potsdam, Wannsee, center city Berlin, etc. If you enjoy biking, the bike baths in all of Berlin are well identified and maintained. I think biking is one of the best ways to explore all that the city offers.

Walking distance (about 20 min) from hotel (but I HIGHLY recommend city bikes)are Berlin's main attractions (Berlin wall and Brandenburg gate). Surprisingly great Asian restaurant right as you walk into hbf from hotel side entrance on the right. DOWNSIDES: Breakfast not included Regular wifi was REALLY REALLY REALLY slow. Though they let me connect to their high speed wifi (not really high speed, but better than regular) for free. The cleaning lady kept knocking on my door every 5 min and barging in only to realize I was still in the room. The bathroom is a glass bathroom so you can clearly see from the outside into the shower (but the fog is supposed to blur it up I guess from the shower).

It wasn't a big issue as the room does cool down, but we were there for a heat wave so wanted a cooler room. - Very limited outlets next to bed. One side didn't have any available outlets so I had to plug phone in bathroom. Similar no outlets by the desk for computer either which was surprising. But we were very pleased with our stay and the easy access to multiple metro lines like U5 and many S lines. Very convenient to get all over Berlin.

At checkout, the hotel mistakenly posted a €1,060 incidental "hold" as a finalized, actual charge to my credit card. I contacted their billing and finance department, and they stated that a refund was processed on July 29. However, as of August 26, the funds are still missing from my account. It is highly unusual for a hotel to make a billing error of this magnitude and leave the customer chasing their money for weeks. I am currently still trying to get this corrected and will update this review if and when the refund finally clears.

The apartment was HUGE, with a full kitchen so we could ease into our day. The kitchen is well appointed with everything I needed to be able to cook some meals. There is a nearby Edeka & Bio Market for easy grocery shopping. The decor in the apartment building is based on a bird house & birds - they carry their theme/branding through like only the Germans can, in an incredibly thoughtful, chic, and humous way. The apartments have an elevator big enough to wrangle international luggage, which is always a plus. The apartments had ample towels, comfortable beds, and lovely service from the concierge downstairs. The welcome fruit basket & coffee provided was incredibly welcome when we woke up jet lagged & starving at 3 AM. They popped in every 2 days to take out the trash & restock towels for us - this was the best of both worlds: hotel service with apartment space & privacy. There is a new laundry room, all decked out that was readily available and thankfully had instructions because despite speaking German, I find their washing machines to be entirely confounding. The attached restaurant downstairs Erchy's has lovely service & great food at decent prices. Would definitely recommend both the apartments and the restaurant.

For many westerners it is important to note that they DO NOT have air conditioning. They don't even have a fan system. This means on rainy, humid, or warm days the room can get pretty muggy. The claim is that it never gets hot/warm in Berlin - for Europeans I suppose, and something about being environmentally friendly, though I didn't quite buy it. Sounded more like a way to cut costs. The bathrooms are very nice in the single rooms. Walk in showers with great water pressure, and unbelievably scalding hot water if you want it. Clean, with plenty of towels. Along the lines of that whole "green" gimmick, you have to insert, and leave, your key card into a slot next to the door to get the lights to come on. This will drive you crazy. Bathroom lights, main room lights, etc. If it's late at night and you have to use the bathroom get ready to wake the whole room up. Luckily by the desk there is a small, wall mounted light with a switch. Without that and the light from the street I would have been in serious trouble. Heavy curtains! They also put a large, half filled beanbag chair in the room... Not sure why... it's uncomfortable as hell and just in the way. The wifi was a little unsure at first and requires you to login every few hours or so. An annoyance that could be better. It works and it's pretty quick. Never the less the room we had on the 1st floor was very clean, modern, spacious, and comfortable. Bigger than most American hotels of the same price. Quiet when the windows are closed. There are no ice or vending machines, but downstairs is their in-house, decent German restaurant. The 8 Euro all you can eat organic buffet breakfast is an odd mix of stuff. From tuna salad, cheeses, and breads to salami, hard boiled eggs and cereals. Lots of variety but all European. This means no eggs, bacon, and pancakes for those who might expect it. This is -not- the Holiday Inn. Great food, very well done, very nicely presented, and they do a great job with it. Very impressive. Sit outside in the garden, it's fantastic. The desk folks are very nice, they all speak English, and have lots of little things that really, really come in handy, such as: stamps, umbrellas, packing tape, hair and body wash for free, etc. You might get someone whose English is a bit halting and they may seem unfriendly but really they're not. Immensely helpful and patient. The hotel sits at the confluence of 4 intersections, above a subway, with an above ground tram to boot! This means outside it can get noisy but the windows are thick and you don't hear anything unless it sirens. The location is perfect for just getting somewhere. When you exit the subway at Rosenthaler Straße (U8 line) be sure to exit the Torstraße side. If you do the hotel will be right there, 15 feet from the exit, next to the Chinese restaurant. If you don't then it's down the block. Lots of cafes and tourist shops nearby, post office down the street, etc. I never figured out the train system. Apparently you're supposed to buy a ticket when you go down into the subway - there are no fare gates - but some Germans told me only tourists buy tickets and everyone just walks down and gets on the train, so that was pretty cool. The trains go everywhere but they're are different lines run by different companies, so they don't all look the same. This can be very confusing when the desk gives you directions somewhere. Overall I give this place a 4 out of 5. It's clean, great location, comfortable, and they really try to make the stay as comfortable as possible. I ding them one star for the a/c - or any kind of fan/air circulation system. It may sound tedious to some but having grown up with it, especially the air circulation system in general, a background noise like an a/c unit to drown out street noise is really helpful, not to mention keeping the air circulating is nice. I would have liked to have seen more information about the room, the hotel, services, and frequently asked questions. The room had a nice personalized message welcoming us to the hotel, with their very own own hotel magazine, but information such as the wifi password, using the lights, etc. were no where to be found in the magazine or anywhere in the room that we could find. So for a westerner just be prepared to go with the flow and ask lots of questions. ie. If the lights don't work, there's probably a reason and you'll need to ask. All that said I will probably return. When you do the euro to US conversion it's a little expensive, but for Berlin, for the location, etc. it's very nice. A little out away from the main tourist sections in a more neighborhood setting. Safe to walk around at night and the beds are comfortable.

Just thought I'd throw in my two cents about Soho Berlin…read more I've going here as a guest since 2011 and then became a member in 2013. In general, I really do like it, but there is a side that's kind of a love/hate relationship. One issue is simply that Berlin has evolved into a different city over the last 6/7 years and Soho House along with it. Their initial motivation to entice creatives rather than wealthy members was very special about this house, especially because the creative culture in Berlin used to be so amazing. It's just not the case anymore and this house now is becoming ubiquitous with New York and London. This is also not the place where international celebs can come and chill and not be bothered anymore. I remember when George Clooney and Matt Damon were left alone in the restaurant - I can't see that happening today. The service and food quality is the same as it's ever been - variable. It's really hit or miss. The seating is rather uncomfortable to eat - the best option is in the kitchen area against the windows, the big wooden table in the back on the 7th floor, or outside on the roof. The service is also variable - it's weird - they give a lot of attention at the beginning, then forget to bring menus or take the order, but then the food comes rather quickly. Then it takes forever to get their attention to ask for the check, then they forget to come back to take the cash or come with the card machine. It's also weird that they just haven't been able to work out the kinks with the food and service quality after all this time. So... why 4 stars ( I was tempted to give three)? Well, it's actually a beautiful place - the lobby, restaurant and roof are great just to hang out and have some drinks. The events can also be a lot of fun and the screening room is great. There is just something here to really enjoy, as long as you go in with a patient attitude, knowing that it's likely something will go wrong with the service - and it did during our breakfast.

Whatever sense of creativity and authenticity it once had is completely gone. It has become a haven for fake 'wannabes' with no artistic contribution, no intellectual depth, and no meaningful conversation. It's not a place for genuine creatives or inspiring individuals anymore--just for people chasing exclusivity without having anything exclusive to offer. apart from some VERY unprofessional membership staff I sometimes use the gym and spa which are tiny and no better than any place in Berlin, but I avoid the rest of the club because the atmosphere is unbearable. Sitting upstairs feels like being surrounded by a hollow, performative crowd offering no substance and no genuine interaction. There's no essence, no deep interaction, no intellectual engagement--just fake exclusivity and shallow encounters. Soho House needs to seriously rethink its purpose and values. Without change, it will continue to alienate the very people it once sought to attract while becoming a parody of itself. I can't wait to end my membership and free myself from the shame of being there.
