This was a reward-based stay, but I treat all reviews the same and try to include the good, bad and the ugly. Check-in was simple and we were given a corner room on the 3rd floor. When we arrived we were pleased with our 2-Queen bed room-which was a bit unique in that they had the window open. I loved that touch. Fresh Maine air. Off to a great start! Bed-VERY VERY COMFY!!! Bathroom, basic but nice. All the things-including pump shampo, conditioner and body wash. Oh the TV was HUGE. We stayed 3 nights at another place that was our basecamp that week and we agreed, if the room was as comfortable as this one we would have done less stuff...the beds combined with the HUGE (65 inches I think???) TV centered perfectly to line up with the 2 Queen beds (ok my lady and I occasionally indulge ourselves by each getting our own bed when on vacation-as I guess I am both a pillow hog AND a blanket thief)...anyway, we were in bliss!!! Breakfast is the usual HIE mix of warm and cold offerings. Not the best, but far from the worst. I made the most of it and then brought up some treats for the misses because I let her sleep in. **NOTE no coffee maker in the room-which is fine, they have it downstairs and frankly I think they do it because it streamlines cleaning rooms which helps turn the rooms around quicker so your room is available, in theory, sooner-and lets face it, cleaning rooms sucks so don't forget to tip service workers where appropriate, but I digress. We didn't use the pool or anything else really, but our limited interactions with reception at check in/out was great and I can easily say, based on our experience, this is a solid offering very close to 95! A Wal-Mart, Target, Market Basket (think inexpensive grocery store), Wendys and a bunch of other chains, including several gas stations are all within a few minute drive. The pool (indoor) is small, but they all seem to be nowadays. The drive to route 1 is 5-7 minutes as I recall and the Palace Diner (oldest and arguably the best in Maine) - in town - is about 10 minutes away! I would not hesitate to recommend this place and I would even consider this a good option for a staycation if your looking for something in that area-the beds and TV really make it welcoming! Oh our fridge even worked good enough to make ice in the icebox-plus there is an icemaker on 3 (and maybe other floors?).

We are supposed to be staying here 7 nights and have been here two nights going on three. We tried…read moremultiple times asking them to clean and service the room all to no avail. We tried 5 times today leaving in the morning at 10am and asking both the person on duty Megan and the housekeeper herself to come. We asked both twice, and the housekeeper came after I'd told her 2pm at 1 when I was in a towel . The first time we requested, we got back 2plus hours later and still no one had come to clean. Megan never apologized when we asked why. She instead said she was busy doing laundry and that we needed to give a more specific time even though we had done just that. We had given a two hour window (10-noon) and then the second time when we left at 2 an 8.5 hr window. Unfortunately once again when we got back to the room at 10:30 pm, it still hadn't been cleaned. Another problem since we got here, despite telling them multiple times is the tv doesn't get a signal (that's the air message on the screen) and is unusable as it's not connected to their cable provider. Someone named Sean came to the room at around 1:30 pm saying he'd heard we had problems with the hotel. But he ended up saying if we're not happy with the room they'd reimburse one night but we'd need to get out by 3pm!!! It was 1:30 and we were about to leave for the reason we had traveled here from L.A. (a university graduation ). I was shocked at his inhospitable manner. I explained we were on our way out right then (I was at the door about to leave) heading to our daughter's university graduation and wouldn't be back until late that night so his suggestion was ridiculous. I tried to explain if his intention was to compensate us or apologize, he shouldn't be telling a 7 night-reserved guest to "get out" with a 1.5 hr ultimatum. This is highly improper hotel hospitality etiquette in my experience and he may have been the general manager himself, even more shocking. That part was also confusing. He handed me a card of the general mgr but implied he wasn't the same person as the card even though the card also had the name Shawn (last name Patel)??? It's 10:45 pm as I write this, and since we got back at 10:15 tonight there has been not a single person on duty. The same was true of last night. If there is an emergency in this hotel, there will be absolutely no one here to take care of anyone. When you call the phone number, it says unable to take a message, that is using the room phone and also calling the general manager's card number from my mobile phone which on the card is the same as the hotel general number on their room phone!! There is no one here at this hotel to take any kind of responsibility and no way to get in touch with anyone, unacceptable hotel management and highly suspicious as well. Also breakfast food stale and inedible except boxed cereal. It is difficult to even give this hotel one star due to the above, but it requires that I give one to leave this review otherwise I wouldn't.

I would have preferred that the fireplace was on in the lobby, that would be more welcoming I believe. Other than that, I really love the location and quietness. One thing that I did not like is our final day we could not take showers in the morning due to cold water. Usually the showers were hot and good pressure. So this was very disappointing to us.

There was a playground, heated saltwater pool (although I didn't feel it being warm while swimming in it), and complimentary breakfast. The rooms were standard and clean. We had a double bed, microwave, spacious fridge, table, tv, and large trash cans (that is a plus with kids). There were chairs outside the room which I noticed plenty of people using it in the late afternoon. The location was on a busy road and it was close to many amenities. Since our room was towards the back, we didn't hear the traffic. Overall, a nice place and would stay again.

They broadcasted threatening messages to guests, including homophobic slurs, and repeatedly told everyone to evacuate because they were going to die. The incident itself was frightening enough, but what happened afterward made the experience even worse. Trevor, the manager, offered me a refund for our stay. However, after several back-and-forth conversations, he told me that the refund had been processed through the third-party booking service. I checked my account and even contacted my bank, and they confirmed that no refund has been received. The lack of follow-through and accountability after such a traumatic incident has been extremely disappointing. I hope the hotel addresses both its security failures and how it handles guests after serious incidents like this.

We were in town for a wedding and needed a nice place to stay for a week…read more We stumbled upon the Carriage House, saw what they had to offer and decided to give it a try. The first thing we noticed was that it's in a great location. Post Road is pretty much the main drag in Wells, and this hotel is like, right in the middle of it. Quite a bit is within walking distance and what is not is only a short drive away. It also helps that it isn't far from the other hotels in the area (which was great for us because some of our party was in other places). The grounds have some regular hotel rooms and some cottages as well. The pictures are from Cottage number 9, which sleeps six people. It isn't a really big building, but the way it is designed, that really does not matter. The six of us had absolutely no problem staying out of each other's way. The screened porch and the large back yard helped that immensely, and if the weather co-operates, the porch is actually a great place to go and just hang out (which happened very, very often during our stay). Now... Bob and Sally... They were literally the first people we spoke to in the state of Maine, and they couldn't have been nicer or more co-operative with us. They even knew our names after just a few hours - there is something about that that's just really cool. When we had questions, they had answers, and they always had a smile on their face. I guess what I am saying here is - I'd stay here again.
