White sandy beach. Families relaxing and enjoying the water. There are private homes, seasonal rentals, and various tourist attractions. It's not your typical party goer scene or crowded as Myrtle Beach. It's geared more for families and for anyone looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. There are various however, limited of shops on the island with a bunch more across the bridge. Food establishments ranges from steak, seafoods, burgers, and pizzerias to ice cream and baked goods. Don't expect any fine dining here. A place with a popular joint called the Crab Shack is indicative and sets the tone of the lifestyle here. I mean half of the places are utensils optional. Let's be honest....did you really come here to put on a pair of heels and dress shoes? There aren't many things to do or places to see on this island but, the charm, serenity and exclusiveness is what makes this place a Gem.

Most of the time you'll probably have it to yourself though. Just head to the very northern end of OIB to find it. It's great place to sit and relax with a book if you need a change from the beach, just bring a chair with you. Overall a great hidden gem of OIB.

Tried the chili dog here, and was more than a little surprised. It was very, very good - maybe even better than its better known competitor on the causeway, and the FF here are decent. as well. The pier and cafe owners are seasonally turned over (at least it seems), which is disappointing. The spot could be cute and convenient for visitors.

It is obvious that there are a lot of community volunteers that take a lot of pride in this park and make sure it is maintained. My wife said there were even fresh cut flowers in the ladies room. We ended up spending time here twice during our vacation at Myrtle Beach and I can't imagine ever coming this way again and not spending time here. The park has clean restrooms, a picnic pavilion and a playground area as well. It is popular with people for walking their dogs but it was never crowded with people or dogs when we were there. There is an observation walkway/dock over the water and a boat/fishing dock that rises and falls with the tide. There were a few fishermen using the dock as well as fishing from the Intracoastal Waterway bank each time we visited. There is a small parking lot with some additional parking nearby. There was plenty of parking when we visited.

The towels were all left in a bag, last year they were placed hanging in the bathroom. The glass top table clearly hadn't been cleaned with Windex for possibly months if not longer. The toilet paper forget it we bring our own...the bushes need cutting back again to see to pull out in traffic. The stairs and wooden walkway are getting more than sketchy...we love Chuck. He haunts the house! Mildew or mold from Hazel? Lots of sneezing going on and stuffy noses...we think the air ducts perhaps? Crazy about our porch. Wish 10 days were an option! The beach is wonderful where we were located! Nobody across the street! Didn't see flying termites swallowing the tele this year! Yay! Till next year!Not fond of changing or stripping my own 3k sheets! We flew our big kites and fished and played with each other! It is possible to hear your neighbors and your neighbors hear you! Someone before us left sand in the tub...I like that retro tub like you wouldn't believe!

Second update: was called by Amanda this morning 12/20/22 and told that since we made a complaint…read morewith the NC Attorney General's office about them trying to change the price after we signed a contract and because of this google review they were cancelling our booking. Stellar service from Amanda at Hobbs Realty. Also, if you see Sea Witch Cottage for a rental in Holden Beach for $3100 that is not the actual price and this will happen to you as well. They were trying to change our lease agreement from the $2282 they had it listed for when we booked it and signed our agreement to be for $4390. And the listing that went up today AFTER Amanda cancelled our booking is for $3143. Update 6:02 pm on 12/19pm. We just received an email from Hobbs Realty confirming our cancellation at 5:38pm, this is the third contact we received after they were closed for the day about this situation. We never asked for a cancellation. They did this being fully aware that we had contacted the NC Attorney General's office with a complaint. Beware, they had prices listed on their website on 12/9/22, we booked our trip and signed the rental contract, and were then called 2 days after we signed and told that the price was incorrect on both the website and our contract that was sent on 12/12 by $2108 plus taxes and fees and that they would not rent to us at the price in the signed contract. They also conveniently waited until after they were closed for the weekend to call us. We called first thing this morning and tried to figure out a solution and were told that we were rude and hostile (when you are trying not to cry) from the beginning of the call. Was also told that she didn't look for alternative options for us to rent since they don't have any options in our low budget. Literally never been made to feel like a smaller person in my life than within a few minutes of talking to Amanda on the phone today. 10/10 would not recommend renting through Hobbs
