This is based on MY experience; therefore, the following is MY OWN personal thoughts and opinion:…read more I wish I had been told beforehand to READ YELP REVIEWS and BEWARE of previous experiences. In retrospect (from reading the other Yelp reviews) we came out better than a few others. If you are seeking a company that puts customer satisfaction and possibly safety first, I ADVISE YOU TO READ ALL YELP REVIEWS BEFORE booking chartered trips and familiarize yourself with all terms - this applies to any and all business you are considering. We expected some rocking in the water on the trip out; however, we never anticipated there would be what felt like real safety issues, bouncing so hard that it threw some of us off the seats and caused those standing to grab anything within reach to hang on. It slowed the boat down to four knots and caused the crew to inform us that at that speed, it would take us another two hours to reach our fishing spot and this was after already traveling for an hour. We were asked if we wanted to continue or turn around and possibly reschedule for another time. No promises were made by the crew, but the rescheduling idea was introduced by them. WE chose to turn around. Upon docking & preparing to exit the boat, we were given an envelope containing $320. We'd paid $1,960.00. After several voicemails left on the return trip in, my call was returned. After a discussion of events, a company representative talked with the crew and decided to refund an additional $580.00, bringing refund total to $900.00. He stated he had expenses - boat, fuel, crew (? - sign on boat stated crew works for tips so we gave them $200.00 for the hour - hour and half we were on the boat). We boarded the boat "assuming" businesses that provide services which are affected by weather conditions monitor all conditions and would have and use the knowledge and expertise to make a determination on whether a trip out was feasible or not, and if the safety, wellbeing of the crew and passengers and the satisfaction of customers was placed first, the engine would never be started; therefore, there would be no expenses. Again, this was/is MY/OUR assumption. After the fact, family members searched Yelp reviews and discovered it appears this was not the first and only such incident. Additional Note: We were also "gifted" two vouchers for a half day charter. Our group of 25 might have to draw straws to see who gets to add those to their portion of the refund. I'd asked for 16 so our local family could use that and the out of state family could receive the majority of their initial payment. Well, Two is better than ZERO!

That being said, I hesitate to post this because I truly do love supporting local businesses. But with tourist season starting, I think it's important to share an honest experience. The first few times we went out with this company, it was amazing. We followed the shrimp boats and not only saw tons of dolphins, but also got a close-up look at the shrimp boats pulling in shrimp and other sea creatures. They would even bring a few things onboard for the kids (and adults) to see before tossing them back. It made the experience feel really unique and memorable. However, ever since the shrimp boat has been out of commission (probably the last year and a half), we honestly haven't seen dolphins the last 3-4 trips. I completely understand there are never guarantees with wildlife, but it has been a little disappointing. It's still a nice boat ride for the cost -- I would just suggest not getting your kids too excited about dolphins and making sure they understand sightings are never guaranteed. Yesterday, we went on the sunset cruise, and unfortunately it was one of the worst experiences we've had. I understand the policy is that the cruise runs rain or shine, but the ocean conditions were rough enough that I truly don't think they should have taken people out. There were young children onboard, people getting sick, and several passengers who were visibly scared as we went through large swells offshore. As someone who has been on this boat many times, even I was uncomfortable. If it had been my first trip, I honestly would have been terrified. Considering the boat had already gone out multiple times earlier that day, I feel like they should have recognized the conditions were not ideal -- especially knowing there was little chance of seeing dolphins in waters that rough. I just think better judgment should have been used. If you're visiting for a family vacation, I would strongly recommend checking ocean conditions beforehand, because I'm not sure cancellations are considered unless absolutely necessary.

I had a wedding in Southport this weekend and I found myself with free time the day before the…read morewedding. I decided to book a scuba charter and found Carolina Scuba online. This place is awesome. They called me a few times to get information and explained to me where we'd be diving, what things I could expect to see, etc. it was extremely helpful and they had great communication the whole time leading up to the dive. I woke up late and scrambled to get to the dive on time and they were so understanding! The weather was beautiful and the dive was beyond amazing! We went to the Hyde shipwreck and saw barracuda, grouper, sand tiger sharks, and so much more. It was one of the best dives I've done. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to dive in the area. They were friendly, professional, and fun. I had the best time!

The captain found a school of Black Bass pretty quickly and we had a ball hauling in those. When it slowed down he quickly found another school. During this process the crew was very helpful and quickly took the fish off or added more bait. After a while the captain asked if we would like to try fishing for shark. Not only did she take us on with a less than 24 hour notice, but also after I called the morning of and added an extra little guy to our list. Our trip was ultra laid back, we were an hour early and haf a bit of a snafu with one of our adults fitting the kayak but still had an AMAZING time. Faith and Cheryl made sure we all felt comfortable and safe before we left and also took their time helping us and making sure the kiddos had a great time. super knowledgeable/flexible/ laid back and willing to help. We had a total of 5 adults and 6 kids and had a blast thanks to their patience, knowledge and willingness to accommodate our needs. Hope to be back next time we vacation in the area!

How do you define a great fishing trip? I think you'd get a lot of different answers depending on…read morewho you ask. Some people would focus on success, as in what you caught, how many you caught, etc. and others would just be happy to have a day out on the ocean with friends and/or family. Others probably a mix of both, and some other smaller factors. I'm happy to say our 4-hour off-shore fishing trip with captain Cane and his first mate Bella (his daughter) was a success by all measures. We caught a lot, had some great fish fights, enjoyed each other's company, and learned a lot about ocean fishing as well as the captain. If there was a downside, we didn't catch any edible fish, but to me... this is minor when all five people in the boat get to fight some sharks, including hammerheads, black tips, and spinners! I was the only person in our group that had ever fought a shark before, and it was nowhere near the five foot hammerhead I tussled with on this trip. We can now all say we've angled a good size shark, not something many people can say. All sharks, for the record, were reeled into the side of the boat, admired for a moment, and released as quickly as possible. The captain had a special tool for removing the hooks in their mouths, and he said if unable to remove, he would cut the line and the hook would rust away in 3 days time. Captain Cane was very knowledgeable and also really good about keeping the conversations going while we waited on our fish to bite. It was also cool to learn he's a 6th generation fisherman in these waters, and to watch him pass his knowledge on to his daughter. Some things to know before going out: 1) No bathroom on board, at least for the shorter trips. Make sure you clear things out beforehand! 2) Ensure your party is up to the physical challenge of open ocean fishing. Even on calm days, the boat will bob and weave, and the fish are likely to put up a good fight. 3) Bring non-spray sunscreen, cold beverages in a cooler (preferably large enough to sit on) and snacks if you think you might get hungry. 4) Make sure you get a secure grip for your cell phone or camera, if the ocean claims it, you're S.O.L!
