This park includes some fantastic boardwalk goes through wetlands that ecologically look more like what I expect from North Carolina than South Carolina. Great sights either way and plenty of wildlife. It is free to enter, though the gates were closing before dark, and the weather was not great. There is a graveyard that one passes on the way in and it is a testament to whoever is in it that this land was dedicated for public use.

That being said, I hesitate to post this because I truly do love supporting local businesses. But with tourist season starting, I think it's important to share an honest experience. The first few times we went out with this company, it was amazing. We followed the shrimp boats and not only saw tons of dolphins, but also got a close-up look at the shrimp boats pulling in shrimp and other sea creatures. They would even bring a few things onboard for the kids (and adults) to see before tossing them back. It made the experience feel really unique and memorable. However, ever since the shrimp boat has been out of commission (probably the last year and a half), we honestly haven't seen dolphins the last 3-4 trips. I completely understand there are never guarantees with wildlife, but it has been a little disappointing. It's still a nice boat ride for the cost -- I would just suggest not getting your kids too excited about dolphins and making sure they understand sightings are never guaranteed. Yesterday, we went on the sunset cruise, and unfortunately it was one of the worst experiences we've had. I understand the policy is that the cruise runs rain or shine, but the ocean conditions were rough enough that I truly don't think they should have taken people out. There were young children onboard, people getting sick, and several passengers who were visibly scared as we went through large swells offshore. As someone who has been on this boat many times, even I was uncomfortable. If it had been my first trip, I honestly would have been terrified. Considering the boat had already gone out multiple times earlier that day, I feel like they should have recognized the conditions were not ideal -- especially knowing there was little chance of seeing dolphins in waters that rough. I just think better judgment should have been used. If you're visiting for a family vacation, I would strongly recommend checking ocean conditions beforehand, because I'm not sure cancellations are considered unless absolutely necessary.

In retrospect (from reading the other Yelp reviews) we came out better than a few others. If you are seeking a company that puts customer satisfaction and possibly safety first, I ADVISE YOU TO READ ALL YELP REVIEWS BEFORE booking chartered trips and familiarize yourself with all terms - this applies to any and all business you are considering. We expected some rocking in the water on the trip out; however, we never anticipated there would be what felt like real safety issues, bouncing so hard that it threw some of us off the seats and caused those standing to grab anything within reach to hang on. It slowed the boat down to four knots and caused the crew to inform us that at that speed, it would take us another two hours to reach our fishing spot and this was after already traveling for an hour. We were asked if we wanted to continue or turn around and possibly reschedule for another time. No promises were made by the crew, but the rescheduling idea was introduced by them. WE chose to turn around. Upon docking & preparing to exit the boat, we were given an envelope containing $320. We'd paid $1,960.00. After several voicemails left on the return trip in, my call was returned. After a discussion of events, a company representative talked with the crew and decided to refund an additional $580.00, bringing refund total to $900.00. He stated he had expenses - boat, fuel, crew (? - sign on boat stated crew works for tips so we gave them $200.00 for the hour - hour and half we were on the boat). We boarded the boat "assuming" businesses that provide services which are affected by weather conditions monitor all conditions and would have and use the knowledge and expertise to make a determination on whether a trip out was feasible or not, and if the safety, wellbeing of the crew and passengers and the satisfaction of customers was placed first, the engine would never be started; therefore, there would be no expenses. Again, this was/is MY/OUR assumption. After the fact, family members searched Yelp reviews and discovered it appears this was not the first and only such incident. Additional Note: We were also "gifted" two vouchers for a half day charter. Our group of 25 might have to draw straws to see who gets to add those to their portion of the refund. I'd asked for 16 so our local family could use that and the out of state family could receive the majority of their initial payment. Well, Two is better than ZERO!

It is obvious that there are a lot of community volunteers that take a lot of pride in this park and make sure it is maintained. My wife said there were even fresh cut flowers in the ladies room. We ended up spending time here twice during our vacation at Myrtle Beach and I can't imagine ever coming this way again and not spending time here. The park has clean restrooms, a picnic pavilion and a playground area as well. It is popular with people for walking their dogs but it was never crowded with people or dogs when we were there. There is an observation walkway/dock over the water and a boat/fishing dock that rises and falls with the tide. There were a few fishermen using the dock as well as fishing from the Intracoastal Waterway bank each time we visited. There is a small parking lot with some additional parking nearby. There was plenty of parking when we visited.
