One of the better KOAs we've stayed at during the x-country trip. Far enough away from I-40 that we didn't feel the trucks rumbling by. Plenty of tent sites. Dog friendly w fenced in yard. Rented one of the enclosed private patios. Clean but grill didn't work, light didn't work and the door was jammed from the inside. We actually got stuck inside and my husband had to jump the fence to unlock us and both couldn't stay in there with dogs and door closed bc it would jam. Wifi was terrible so don't rely on It . Close to highway so not very quiet. Good view of stars Bathrooms were ok for cleanliness but my husband reported never had paper towels. It's close to the park but not sure if we would come back to this particular spot. read more

The location is convenient if you are visiting Petrified Forest National Park. The staff did not seem happy, however the front desk attendant moved us from a very muddy spot to a drier area at our request (there was a recent storm). The maintenance person followed my husband back from a dog walk to the camper and chastised him for not picking up someone else's garbage. To avoid an argument my husband went back and picked it up. Our military discount was not applied and when I called after we left they said there was nothing they could do about it. read more

We absolutely loved this campground! The staff was friendly and sites are spacious and clean. It was super convenient to walk to breakfast in the morning (great food and good price). The restrooms and showers were clean and well kept (wish they had a larger laundromat). In addition, the campground is very close to the Petrified Forest. We've stayed at many KOA's and have had great experiences. However, at this KOA, the person at the front desk, whose name is "Lynn" was so unfriendly and not very welcoming. When I first walked in, the place smelled really bad and "Lynn" had an attitude. She didn't take the time to go over some things that many other KOA's do. I asked about the military discount for our second night stay and her response was "we only give a discount for one night!" I even went back in the next day to ask a question on directions and she snapped saying, "It's in the brochure!" We will not stay at this one ever again. read more

Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA Journey When I called for resv I was told the only spaces left was a pull thru with patio for a higher price. I wanted a simple pull thru with lower price. Stay 3 night and I saw several simple pull thru empty the whole time. Even the online app showed only patio available so they must be using a black out method to get more $$. We planned to stay at this KOA, we are KOA members. We lost the motor on our diesel truck on this trip, we are stuck with an underpowered truck to get us back home, we lost all use of our propane in our trailer yesterday. We still planned to stay, until we saw the weather, 16 degrees tonight, that's so scary, especially without a furnace. We decided that we had to change our route and stay at the KOA in Santa Fe, where it will be warmer. My husband explained all this to the woman who answered the phone at the Holbrook KOA, she was extremely rude, asking if we were in a tent!! What?? She refused us a refund for tonight, and couldn't care less about the catastrophic happenings on our trip. Is this KOA policy to treat your customers/travelers this way. Very nice stop close to I-40. Usual KOA facilities (nice store, laundry, small cabins...). An unusual and great addition is the Chuckwagon dinner and breakfast area, with excellent food in lovely picnic area with grass and shade. The grounds are a lot of dirt and gravel, though there are trees to provide some shade. The staff is great. read more

We camped here overnight in a 35' rv and had plenty of room in our pull through site. The campground was clean ( I can't speak to the condition of the restrooms or laundry room because I did not use) and the staff was friendly and helpful. Dog friendly! They had a large, fenced area for the pups! If you're going to the petrified forest this campground is pretty close. read more

We stayed in a tiny house/cabin - #J - while visiting the Petrified Forest NP nearby. The cabin was just perfect - clean and well appointed. Parking right outside your cabin so easy there. The kitchen had two burners, microwave, sink and refrigerator. Very nice for family staying but even singles or couples would like these. There is a separate bedroom, a loft with two beds, and also a bunk set of twin beds in hallway outside bathroom. So much sleeping space for the price. The bathroom is decent sized - had nice towels, tub/shower. Living room had recliner, small couch and table with chairs. We would stay in this tiny house/cabin again without any issues. read more

Check in (after hours) was amazing. We pulled up and there was an envelope ready for us. We rented one of the family loft cabins and it was literally a tiny house. We absolutely loved it. It was well cleaned and there was plenty of space for all of us. The camp ground was relatively quiet and no crazy parties going on. We didn't stay longer than a night so we didn't use the pool. Checked in for the night.. place was clean playground was nice and pool was a pool.. all in all we were very glad we stopped here .. also you can't beat the all-you-can-eat pancakes for $3.99 in the morning !! My family came to stay at this location and invited us to come hang out, swim, and eat dinner. We were in the pool with no one else from the park there and a member of management came and yelled at us that if we are not staying in the park we needed to leave. It was done in a very rude and harsh manner. He didn't say anything beforehand that the people staying at the park could not have guests. They even asked about guests coming to visit and they didn't get told anything. We were only going to be there for a short time visiting family that came to town for a wedding. This is not a family-friendly location. read more

We like this place - we've stayed here two times and each time had been pleasant. I will say that the only thing going on in Holbrook are gas stations, motels and the Petrified Forest. It's not for a long stay but for a couple nights this place is great. I'm sure that we'll be back as Holbrook seems to be a good stopping point while traveling around through the area. read more

We didn't find a lot of choices for a place to stop for the night with our travel trailer. The KOA was easy to get to and just off of I-40. As we pulled into the park so did about 10 others. Check in was a little slow if you were in the line with the woman. She had a lot to cover verbally with new check-ins. However, the fella doing the same check in was pretty speedy. Sites at any KOA are pretty expensive for what you get. However, if you had kids, there are playgrounds and swimming pools. This one had both. It also had an outside Cowboy snack / dinner bar. So, that was pretty good. We were able to stay hooked up and that's always a plus. Our site was small but it worked for the one night we were there. We would definitely stay here again if only for a night as it did work for us. read more

Awesome facilities, nice and friendly staff that will work with whatever your situation is. Great for dogs and kids. Has a pool!! Serves cheap breakfast, all you can eat pancakes and coffee for $2.99, eggs, sausage patties and orange juice or milk. The place is huge!! Despite being next to the highway, the noise level is surprisingly low or at least ambient and not at all bothersome. The showers are not timed, and it's clean! You can book online easy, and check in is anytime even if no one is available at the front desk. They have great pamphlets and good overall maintenance of the grounds. No firewood/camping fires though. There is a small grill. I would come back again! read more

The girl at the front desk was pleasant and helpful, but she apparently booked us into the wrong site. So, a very cranky older man felt compelled to harass us for two days about which site we SHOULD be in, although the park was practically empty. This rv "resort" is really a huge gravel parking lot, and the "patio" sites consist of patio furniture, bbq and fire pit which is nice. However it was SO WINDY the three days we stayed here, we didn't dare to light a fire and it was too unpleasant to sit outside due to the gale force winds. My biggest beef with this campground is that there is absolutely NO wifi service. In this day and age, it is essential to have access to the internet as we travel cross country in order to chart our route and book future rv sites. During our entire stay we were NEVER able to get good wifi service. Even my at &t phone plan didn't have cell coverage. We ended up having to go into town to McDonald's to book future rv sites. read more

The cabins lol nice from the outside and even inside it's ok. We have two stars because the check in process for later check ins was flawless, and the cabin design and cleanliness is good. But ours is invested with cockroaches. We are so grossed out we can't sleep. We have been driving for two days and have two more days to go. I am worried we are going to wreck our car because no one can sleep. So yeah, don't stay on their cabins. read more

Holbrook/Petrified Forest KOA was excellent for a Journey class KOA. The bathing facilities were always clean and the pool was excellent. My dog really enjoyed the freedom of a leash free dog park. The RV spots could use more shade but it appears they are working on that The staff was surprisingly friendly and did everything they could to ensure our stay was enjoyable. This shithole campground just lost power to the point that every hook up could only run 1 A/C unit and nothing else and the reason they gave was that "their wiring could not support the amount of people here this weekend" they knew every single person who was coming because this is a reservation only campground and they chose to book every rig here knowing full well they couldn't support the power load. This is borderline.m criminal negligence when it is over 100 degrees here during the day. Stay anywhere else. If you can't get a reservation, stay in a parking lot and run your own generator. read more

Considering there are acres and acres of inexpensive land out here, you would think that you wouldn't be concerned about your awning coming in contact with your fellow RV'er's rig. Electric and the water work OK. We paid more for cable and it does not work. This KOA is an overpriced RV park that offers very little amenities. Good grief, even some shade would have been nice. The dog park is a dirt. It's so hot your animals cannot walk here. As for the rest of the "park", I could feel the heat from the rocks through my flip-flops! AVOID if you have dogs. We are traveling in a 40' 5th wheel and staying in site #40. It is perfectly level front to back and side to side! Only the second time in 2 yrs that has happened. They get 5 stars for that! Naomi warmly greeted us and checked ya in. I was able to secure a spot at the last minute, for which we were grateful. We didn't use the showers or laundry but they are clean. One of the nice things is the Cowboy Cookout. We won't have to cook dinner or breakfast which I appreciate because that means no dishes or extra water in the tanks. We stayed only one night and have stayed here a few times on our way east or west. It's easy off I-40 and while it is close to the interstate we didn't notice any noise. We like the improvements they have made with the privacy fencing between the sites. Helps with noise and wind buffering. read more

Although this site does have some positive points and in time once all the construction is finished and the new plants established it will likely be a great location and worth the $40.00 a night it currently charged, but right now it's not. We stayed for 3 nights and on 2 of the nights, and despite the site being very empty. They insisted on putting us all right next to each other in very narrow sites. The photos I post show how tight it was. There was also lots of work going on but this means there is lots of pipes for there new sprinkler system sticking up everywhere as well as there being a lot of areas that are just like sand including the dog walk. If it rains it will be unusable. The positives were the bathrooms were clean and there was a nice dog enclosure which was grassed. I did speak to the office and asked why they put everyone so crammed in, she told me only the 3 end sites were 50 watt. My point was I paid $40.00 to look at the side of someone else's rv and view lots of construction materials and equipment, had I known in advance I would not have felt so cheated, also I would have taken a 30 amp site for space. So the 2 stars is for the poor communication and it being overpriced. If your improving awesome just let us know on your websites so we can make an informed choice as to if we want to stay or not. read more

Nice, clean, quiet park. Our pull through site was large and well shaded. It even had a private run for our dog. So convenient! The dog park wasn't huge. But, certainly large enough for some good exercise. The pool looked clean and inviting. Although, we didn't use it. Took advantage of the pancake breakfast. Very tasty and much appreciated on our morning departure date. All staff we encountered were very pleasant and helpful. Would ddefinitely stay here again. read more

The stay was great the first night. We were scheduled for a two night stay. Before we left for the day in our RV, we asked if we could leave our sewer hose hooked up and put out cap on it while we were out. She said absolutely that wouldn't be an issue. We returned after our day out and our sewer hose was moved and taken apart and we were told we were in a different site go tonight. They stated because we added another night to our reservation. Which btw was added over a month ago. My husband booked the reservation and called right back to add a second night the same day! Common sense is apparently not common. They even had the audacity instead of fixing the situation to tell the other camper, who brought it to their attention that there was a sewer hose already set up, to just move the sewage line and park there. Instead of realizing the issue and resolving it before we returned. The managers response is there is nothing she can do about it, she had zero ambition to even try and fix the situation. Her only solution was you have to move to another spot. Really? That was a no brained, you never made an effort to correct it when it could have been resolved before we ever returned. We like staying at KOA because of the facilities and staff usually. This has been extremely disappointing. read more

The cowboy cafe is great to pick up a burger, chicken or steak inside the campground. Great camp store and gift shop. Well worth the stay if your in the area. Our site had a gas grill, patio, table and chairs , a glider and a pergola!!!!! One word of advice . Stay away from Tom and Suzie's Route 66 Diner down the street , unless you like long waits and bad food. read more

Another awesome KOA! We stayed in a Kabin and it was perfect! It was roomy enough for our whole family, the AC worked very well and everything was very clean. The only complaint was that the AC wasn't turned on before we arrived, so it took a while for the cabin to cool down. The all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast was awesome and super affordable!! It was $3/person and you really can't beat that! And, it was so close to Petrified Forest! This one is on our return to list, for sure! read more

Easy in and out only a few blocks off 40. Extra wide and extra long spaces available. Nice grassy dog area, very pet friendly with lots of dogs being walked. Quiet and safe. No need to run the AC! Well stocked camp store as well as conveniently located to restaurants and the maverick truck stop up the road. Not well lit so unless you know the park, try to get in before dark. read more

Hello, On Sunday 4/26, I had a reservation at the Holbrook AZ KOA. I was travelling by motorcycle from CA to NM. Outside of Phoenix, I had an accident on my motorcycle that required me staying the night in Scottsdale so that Stubbs Harley Davidson could go over my bike and do a complete safety check on it before I proceeded with my trip. As soon as I had a moment, I called Holbrook KOA to let them know that I would not arrive (due to the accident) to use my reserved cabin. The gentleman who answered the phone was rather short with me and when telling the other gentleman (I presume in the office with him) my situation, that other gentleman was very short and rude... it's too late for her to cancel without having to still pay. No refund. I 100 % get that we are in the middle of a pandemic and everyone needs to make a living. But I WAS IN A MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT. There was no way I was going to ride the 3+ hours to make it to my reservation. As a motorcyclist, (who whenever possible uses KOA on her trips) that tells me that money is more important than me and my safety. It is a bad precedent. I will not let Holbrook ruin my opinion of KOA as a whole. However, I will never reserve there again. And when talking up KOA to friends, I will make sure that I explain my situation with Holbrook KOA so they are aware. This is not about wanting a refund.... they can keep the money. Great RV park. Convenient, easy in and out. Stayed in a pull-though site with a paw pen. My dog loved it! Roomy, level, gravel site. Quiet even with the freeway nearby. They have a large fenced dog park for everyone and the paw pen at our site was great... fake grass and a covered area for shade. Really good WiFi and good cable TV.
