As with most new places in Greenwich, Hola Paella was nowhere to be seen and then one day it just popped up. I'm pretty sure they do this overnight when no one is looking. And now Hola Paella is smack bang in the middle of the market (and the awesome vintage shop has moved to a bigger space across the other side) and I think I'm going to like this place.
It doesn't really know what it is yet, but the nice lady said that they weren't even meant to be open yet - they appear to be cashing in on the Christmassy tourists in the market. They've got a little deli bit, and lots of treats all around the place. I bought some posh sea salt which was all herby and yum. It was also £7.50, which makes me a bit of an idiot. Shopping in Greenwich always makes me a bit of an idiot. It's not just posh foodie treats, but a little cooking section, so they can serve paella to hungry shoppers through the window. Genius.
And, you can have tea and coffee and buy wine by the glass. I'm not sure it's ready for cosy wintry snuggling yet. It seems a bit sparse, but as they mentioned, they weren't meant to open until next year. It's not cheap here, it's not quite ready, but the staff are friendly and it's got a certain charm about it. And Greenwich Market was screaming out for a decent cafe. It might have just got what it was looking for. Or, it might upsticks and leave like every other cafe in the market, but let's hope that doesn't happen. read more
