Bean Bean & Veggie Burrito and Cafe de Olla
Megan H.

We had a delicious breakfast on their adorable patio this Sunday morning. I had the bean and veggie breakfast burrito, and my fiancé had a chorizo breakfast burrito. The tortillas were so delicious! We both preferred the chorizo burrito and will be back for more! I also loved my coffee, Cafe de Olla (Mexican almond milk latte). Super friendly staff and such a cute spot.

Stumbled upon this place walking to my car from an appointment on south pearl street and I'm so happy I did! I was starving so I got a smothered burrito and a spicy Bloody Mary and the food and cocktail were incredible. Service was kind, energy was upbeat and it's in a very cute and walkable area. Parking was easy too.

Nestled on a side street, this cute cafe is a must try! Aesthetically decorated, this shop various drinks (cafe & alcohol) and food/pastries to choose from! There's seating inside and out. The service was super friendly. I got an iced matcha and a chocolate banana bread to go. Everything was delicious! Definitely want to come back and try their plates.

the food is delicious, prepared to order, flavorful, authentic. I have been wanting to come here for a while but timing was difficult. happy to be able to take time out of my morning to enjoy this space. In not new to yerba mate, so i was pleased that it was just the right amount of sweetness. it doesn't take away from the taste of yerba. my chilaquiles were fresh, chips still crunchy. i felt happy because the dish came with so many vegetables making this a healthy option and nutritious. the salsa verde is my fav anywhere i go so i was happy theirs was so yummy and fresh. super pleased. welcoming staff. supporting local is easy when it's Hoja.

Patio plants and ristras

HOJA is a wonderful, welcoming restaurant on S. Pearl. I stopped in for lunch after visiting another business in the area and was so happy I did! HOJA specializes in vegan and gluten-free options while offering some traditional dishes with meat. Open for breakfast and lunch, they offer delicious and flavorful food. I was sold when I saw the quality tequila and the New Mexico red chile for sale on the shelf. There is seating inside, but I was somehow led to go to the patio out back and was transported to a little oasis. Red chile ristras hung from poles and hooks, contrasting with the well-cared-for green plants and succulents in terra cotta pots. Fans gently circulated as Spanish music filled the air. When my food was brought to me, it was another visual delight. A colorful salad of cucumber, squash, pumpkin and sesame seeds, flavored with Tajin and lime accompanied by a generous cup filled with Pozole Rojo. The red chile was legit! Made from scratch as advertised. To add to the resort vibe, I had an Iced Carajillo, a nice blend of espresso from their machine and Licor 43. I had such an enjoyable time at lunch, it was like a mini-vacation. Muchísimas gracias, HOJA!

This place is such a gem! Great atmosphere, and great people! Will definitely be back for more.

Vegan Burrito.

Went here on a Sunday for brunch. Street parking wasn't too bad when we went, but it is South Pearl Street. I imagine it might be harder when the farmer's market is in season. We walked in and the line was right up against the door as the register is right there. It looks small at first, but it opens up to a bright outdoor area in the back. The decor and aesthetic was a modern take on a Mexican style. It was an order at the counter type place. We ordered two carafe's of the pink guava mimosa. That came quickly and it was delicious. The flavors really melded together and it didn't taste too sweet. We ordered the Vegan Burrito and two orders of the Birria Quesadilla. One order of the Quesadillas came first as it was a separate order. There was a decent wait between getting the second and first orders. I had the Birria Quesadilla and it was delicious. It could have been more saucy, but the flavors were there. That one dish filled me up, so I would say the price is decent for the food you get. My partner had the Vegan Burrito, not smothered. It was solid for a burrito, and it was on the larger size. Overall, I will come back. I want to try the Chiles Quilles. The back room was a nice warm retreat from the cold. They also had fans that they turned on when it got a bit too warm. Cute place & good food!

Amazing then, Amazing now! Came to Hoja years ago and loved the atmosphere and the food was incredible. Thrilled to report that it hasn't just maintained their warmth and good vibes but totally blew me away with their updates indoors and the food is better than ever. The staff is so welcoming and feels like family. You'll want to stay and keep eating cookies and drinking more coffee. Favorites: farmers burrito, chilaquiles, Matcha latte, and the Cafe de olla Can't wait to come back!

Tasted better than it looks but fell apart after two bites :( Definitely not a "handheld" burrito. Maybe try giving the salsa on the side instead of putting it inside so it's not so soggy and can stay together. Overall, it was fine, won't order again though. The vegan banana bread was pretty good though.

They expanded their menu and specials since we last came! I got the enchiladas and it was so much food for the price with salad rice and beans. They even brought an extra bowl of rice and beans for our toddler. My husband got the carnitas quesadilla and it was delicious too. The drinks are great and the chocolate chip oatmeal cookie was divine. We can't wait to come back and sit on the back patio as the fall weather cools down, thanks for the great service and food! Kid friendly pic

Brisket quesadilla with Mexican cheese was amazing. The salsa is homemade and delicious!

A must! If you are in the Denver area. The vibes of this restaurant made you feel so good. Ben, the owner waits on you! Totally delightful. The other staff are warm and welcoming but, come here for the food. The presentation is beautiful, and the food is outstanding.

Chilaquiles with salsa verde

I had the green chilaquiles with eggs. This is a childhood favorite of mine prepared by my grandmother so it's a tough act to follow, Hoja delivered and surpassed my expectations on this classic dish. The staff were all very welcoming, and answered any questions I had, I'm excited to come back and try their birria.

I parked in the neighborhood behind them because there were no areas in front of the business to park. Anyways, I go in and the atmosphere is so warm and vibrant! Service was great too. The one staff was friendly and walked me through the menu. The restrooms require a code. They were super clean and smelled good. Plenty of seating throughout the place. If I were to have a complaint is that a lot of their QR code links they had throughout their business were not working. The business seems new and it looks like the owners are still finishing some touches but overall--great place! I'll be coming back to explore the rest of the items on their menu.

A few month after may cat passed away, I found a bonded pair through this rescue that I fell in love with. I was told they would stay at the cafe as "ambassador cats" for about six weeks before their adoption window opened, and that I should submit an application and add my name to the list. I applied right away and was encouraged to visit them at the cafe in the meantime. Visits cost $11, which I was happy to pay because I wanted to spend time with them. Over the next several months I visited around 15 times and regularly asked staff about the adoption timeline. Each time I was told "soon". Then one day weeks later one employee said "oh those cats are not going anywhere for a long time". That six-week window eventually turned into about 3 months. only after all that time did I learn there are at least 23 people on the list for these cats, meaning there was never any realistic expectation that I would actually be able to adopt them. After months of visits, emotional investment, and an application already on file, and hearing that the cats "are not going anywhere for a long time", I finally gave up hope and said my goodbyes to the kitties I adored. Clearer communication and realistic expectations from the beginning would make a huge difference. Basically, If you are looking to adopt, this is not the place to go - their business model does not work. If you want to cuddle kitties, its pretty nice.

I've never been treated with such poor customer service. Here is what happened: I walked into this tiny shop with 4-5 people in line. There was nowhere to stand so I took a spot in the corner to wait. I waited around 10 minutes for the line to go down; but I had already hopped into an important work call. My large (over the ear) headphones were on, yet the owner (or worker?) approached me and basically snapped his fingers at me asking what I wanted to order. I said I will order in a few minutes as I'm wrapping up an EXTREMELY important work item/call that cannot be interrupted. He came BACK 30 seconds later to tell me I need to order to sit there. I already have been having the worst day (I won't get into it) so I stood up and said I will no longer be ordering as I don't want to give a business who operates this way my money. I went outside to the table because I was unable to stop my work- he screamed that I need to order to use their wifi. I said "I'm on my phone's hotspot". He followed me out to point to the sign that says order to sit. I literally moved to the floor and this guy starts packing up all of the tables and chairs. They closed in 30 minutes so it appeared as if they wanted me to leave so they can close early since I was the only one in their shop. Then I heard him talking and laughing about me to the shop owner next door (recovering hipster) who loudly said "welcome to colfax" as if I'm a homeless person (there was one sitting on the curb 15 feet away btw!!). I was wearing my full suit and pant work outfit. WTF?? TLDR; they harassed me to order and accused me of using their wifi (I was on my phones hotspot btw- I've never been here to get their wifi password) all within me sitting there for less than a minute after the line died down. Extremely unprofessional and/or racist??? Never in my life have I been treated so poorly. Disgraceful. They proceeded to record me as if I was doing something illegal. I wonder if I am able to seek legal action about this, because how is this acceptable for a business to operate in such a way...Also- this place was extremely dirty, but that's the least worrisome thing here.
