GREAT TIME!!! We came for a friends 30th birthday it was a group of 15 of us. We were able to do multiple courses over the 3 hour session. Everything was spaced out perfectly, we were able to take breaks in between. The paintballs DO HURT your skin may welt if you don't layer up good. Don't wear leggings ladies. Or if you do wear some sweats over them. It'll also help so you don't dirty up your car seats cause of the extra layer or just put towels down. Tips: Knee pads Bandana or something for sweat and holding hair back Layer uppp 3 hrs will require more paintballs $15 for extra bags Bring a small backpack and water Wear athletic shoes you don't mind getting dirty and you can run in For a 3 hr session it was $53 a person. read more

Really enjoyed this paintball experience. This is 1/2 paintball venues I have gone to since getting back into the sport this past year. It has really good woods ball venues, the younger staff is really friendly. They are a little lacking when it comes to knowledge about little things. Example: I have a 4500 PSI tank and one of the refs filled it to just over 3k. I asked him to fill it all the way and he said it was maxed. I asked him to oblige me and when he did it filled up to 4200psi. The refs don't always pay attention the the game rules either but overall not bad those are two small examples. Other the that very friendly. Good scenarios, make sure they check the team strength before each game. The manager or owner the older grey headed dude is money hungry and kind of a prick. But I would recommend if you are looking for good woods ball. Pevs is better for high pressure short games. Will be checking southern Maryland paintball today and will review that one after. For woods Bsll right now this place is my favorite for high pressure games pevs is number 1. Overall I would go here first. read more

My friends and I planned a bday paintball event under short notice. The staff was so accommodating in making our reservation and assisting us even though we arrived late. Theres over 15 maps and the business is run really well. 1/7 guns had issues which isnt bad. The mapsfeature all types of terrain. Highly recommend wearing some comfy shoes, socks and maybe cleats. The person taking us all around was Maddie and she was great. Had knowledge of all of the maps, best tips and refereed some of our games. I love how the maps are different. Theres hills, tree houses, small bunkers and interesting hiding spots. The gear was constantly being cleaned and you could tell at each station the employees knew what they were doing. Definitely recommend booking in advance and not doing walk ins. Great place to enjoy some paintball with some friends and have a nice picnic after. Wide variety of maps and they do allow you to bring your own guns. Prices are reasonable. We paid under $60 for rental, paintballs and 2 hours of gameplay. read more

Family-run business with various paintball courses located in the woods! It's not on astroturf but rather incorporates the actual woods. When we arrived, they had us sign a release form in case of any injuries. We were instructed of the rules (eg. no shooting within 20 feet, always wear a mask to protect your head, and make sure your paintball gun is on safety while walking). We were given two bags of paintball, which lasted us over 8 games (still had more left over). The groups were separated into "walk-ons" and those with reservations. There were initially about 7-8 walk-ons total that expanded to around 9-10, or 4-5 per a team. The teams ranged from high school students to full-time professionals. They tried to make sure the team was balanced. Some of the teammates also gave advice regarding holding the weapon -- looking in the rear/front sight, and, when I turn, to make sure that my feet stays hidden else I will be shot. We went on a total of four courses near each other. My favorite courses we went on: 1. Hyperball -- shorter folks have an advantage! We started on this course and used this multiple times. 2. Castle - symmetrical. Great coverage. Fairly level ground. Easy-moderate level. Absolutely loved this one! Overall: 10/5 experience. I definitely would go here again! Small local business. A friend of mine worked their and decided to sponsor a birthday party their and it was great. You basically have two options high impact and low impact. If it is your first time I would advise warring at least 2 or more protective layers of clothing and then choose the low impact option and you will have a great time. Not cool. Prices have changed and now there's time limits and what happened to the bring your own paint?? 500 balls of paint only lasts maybe 1 or 2 games at max. Why you doing this when all of us are hurting from Covid and we need an outlet, but why change it up for us kids who are already on a limited income?? But it's a great park to play, great atmosphere. Great experience, a lot of fun, and dirt cheap for everything that you get. Been wanting to try this place out for a while and finally had the pleasure of doing so with a group of friends (guys and girls). Counting down the days until I get back out here and play some more. We had a group of 12 that came out for a bday and it was the best idea. We were our own private group with our own ref for the entire 2 hours. You can play different games and on different maps which makes it a lot of fun. I believe they have around 20 different maps and we played about 6 of them and each one is fun and unique in its own way. There are lots of fences, boulders, and other objects to hide behind during all the games with plenty of trees and shrubs in some of the maps. Each game you play is either 10 or 15 mins. and you can play elimination style, defend and attack, or capture the flag. We did a 2 hour set and played around 10 games. After each game you get a chance to go load back up with paintballs and air if needed. Each person only paid $35 and that includes a personal referee for the entire 2 hours, 500 Paintballs, paintball gun, and mask. They also have camouflage pants/shirts that you can rent for $5 if you want. Overall this was a great time and a steal at $35 (I thought anyways) and then after we went to stone tower for some wine. ***ASK FOR ELIJAH TO BE YOUR GUIDE/REF*** I just have to start off by saying Elijah made our experience SO enjoyable; we couldn't have asked for a better guide/ref to keep us safe and on our toes. He was polite, friendly, and made us feel extremely comfortable all day. THANK YOU, ELIJAH! My friends and I booked a private group time slot from 3-5 pm and paid $39 per person for 500 balls (for all you trigger happy people, you can buy more balls if you run out), which allowed us to play 6 games on 4 maps, so it worked out perfectly; the price per person also included all the gear you need. If you need camo pants, a vest or jacket for an extra layer, those are $5 each. There are a number of maps that you can choose from, and you can jump to as many as you want to until your time runs out, as well as what game you want to play (i.e. elimination or capture the flag). All in all, I'd say this is the best place to go paint-balling in the northern VA area because of the price, number of maps, and Elijah who is a huge asset at Hogback. We'll be back! read more

Was part of a group last weekend, Emilia was our guide/ref (I hope I got her name right...). Emilia was great and kept us moving from field to field. She explained everything well and was organized. The dude refilling canisters at the first area was quick and friendly. If I ever go again with a group, I'll definitely let them know to request Emilia if she's still there. The group's favorite part was one of our last games where you can basically shoot until you give up. I highly recommend that for 18+ crowd. I have to give a star off because one of the other refs was a dick. He would yell at people like an asshole for minor infractions. He randomly was being a smartass to our group about where we were standing after getting eliminated, then while I was merely adjusting my mask he just HAD to remind me to keep my mask on in the most dickish condescending tone possible - I'm sure the dude is walking around with a gigantic erection, just enjoying his power trip all day. read more

What a great time. I heard about this place from Yelp. Booking a birthday party here for my 12-year old was so easy. Yes, it's far out west, but worth the drive. The prices were reasonable for the party. They have picnic tables there to enjoy food afterwards. The staff there is very attentive and good with kids and seemed to enjoy their jobs. I would come back here again for a party or just simply for a nice time out with the kids. Beware the low impact balls did hurt the kids that were from ages 8-12 still. I've been playing paintball for 20 years across several states (NY, PA, DE, MD, VA) and Hogback ranks right up there with some of the big name fields. Fair price for own equipment ($30 + 500 rounds) and rec ball paint ($60/case), I believe rentals were $40. Highlights include: Our ref who kept us moving from field-to-field with just enough downtime to grab some water and reload. Good coordination in the staging area as to what fields were available. Compressed air refills in the staging area saving players time (and energy) walking up and down the mountain to the rental/pay area. Gunsmith in the field staging area to help diagnose and/or resolve any minor issues - big props to Josh for figuring out my tank & remote issue! Fields have a good mix of structures (wooden, cinderblock, replica towns and helicopters, and barriers built up using downed trees and large branches). The only negative is the lack of parking for non-4x4 cars. Hogback Mountain Paintball - Small group from work, great team building event for all skill levels! - Paintball Near Me - Leesburg, Virginia

This has been my go-to walk-on paintball park for 3-4 times per year for 11 years now. My first field was Pev's down the road, but my second time out, a friend recommended trying out Hogback, and I love it more than Pev's in every single way. I've never had a bad referee, and they all have a great eye at keeping everyone safe by making sure barrel covers are properly installed, and masks are on. They take the time to explain the rules properly every time, and seem to be really knowledgeable with anything related to paintball. Overall, every staff member I've talked to, up to the owner and down to the guys who are simply in charge of rentals & air refills, are fantastic, and I would never recommend another field to anyone looking to get into the hobby. The one piece of advice I would give is prepare yourself for the sole task of preventing mask fogging, because the single-pane rental masks do fog easily regardless of conditions. Look at picking up a bottle of JT Magik anti-fog spray online or locally to help counter-act it, and bring a couple microfiber lens cloths to buff it out. I've heard silica gel mouth-guards (what boxers wear) actually work well, but I've never tried it personally. If you really enjoy your first time out, and are thinking about buying your own gear, buy a mask with a yellow thermal lens or HDR thermal lens before all else (JT Proflex and Empire eFlex are really good options). The yellow/HDR lenses help with low-light visibility since all but a few fields are under heavy tree cover. Also, bring kneepads if you've got them, a majority of the bunkers are no taller than 3 feet, and being able to stay on your knees for the entire day will dramatically improve your play and experience more than any paintball marker will. Low Impact was fun for all from 8 to grandparent. I took my 8 year old out for low impact walk on this weekend not knowing what to expect. The staff was awesome and did a great job of teaching everyone the rules and how to use the equipment. SAFETY was first and run really well with firmness and kindness. Our referees did a great job of running games that were fun for everyone that made up our walk up group, from 8 year olds, to teenagers, to adults. The referees split up teams fairly, but also allowed people to stay together as much as possible. We took good but not to long breaks between games. We ended with a kids vs adults which everyone had a fantastic time with. I was glad I brought water (they had free water too) but also snacks and baby wipes up to the field. The low impact paintball hit as described by my 8 year old "It hurts enough so you know you got hit, but by the time you have walked back to the rest area you can't feel it anymore" Lots of people had short sleeves and not one complained. The group came together really fast even though we hadn't known each other before hand. We definitely want to go back and encourage others to as well. read more

We had a large group play here with walk-ons and mini terrorists aka suburban kids with madddd skills.... trained in Compton possibly. Anyways the place is set on a rural, crossing many property lines, um did we make a wrong turn location. Easy to find but I wouldn't recommend driving anything but an SUV here. My poor GTi would have probably died getting there. The staff was well organized and prompt despite the crowd of people that decided to show up this day. No lolly gagging. Our ref got us in on all the courses that day and even though the day was about to end allowed us to play just ONE more quick game. He was also very professional and commanding. Totally by the book on safety procedures which I appreciated. Also no one in our group that was renting equipment had any complaints. But most of us had our own. This was my first time paintballing, and it was really really fun. I went with a group and with the package you get air, 500 paintballs, a gun and a mask. There are 4-5 different maps/arenas (as far as I could see) and they were challenging without being impossible. They were definitely safety conscious, which I really liked because the other two teams nearest to us were made up of seemingly pros who wore all camp and brought their own gear and a herd of crazy 10 year old boys. Neither group felt safety conscious in and of themselves (to me) so having the refs there put me at ease! Knocking this a star for our ref, who didn't explain things to us, although most of us had stated that we were beginners to paintball and to handling any kind of gun--we asked specific questions about like when to take the safety off or hold the gun or what the rules of the course were and he seemed annoyed at us for asking obvious questions. He told us to refill our air tanks if they got below a 3, but at no point did the dudes refilling the air get us past a 2, which just set our expectations in a place we didn't need to be. One girl even started with a gun that had an empty tank because they maybe hadn't been as thorough with the equipment check before they handed us our gear (we were there at 9am, so I assume we were some of the first of the day?) I felt like our team could have been more strategic and had more fun if he'd just been patient with the newbies from the get-go, but he wasn't rude or mean or anything and maybe that's just my annoyance at being really bad at paintball! read more

Went here for a bachelor party and can say that this place is good to go. We had a private session, so that means we didn't play in the mini wars that they host where it's all walk-on, but rather it was just us and a referee. They have several courses which vary in awesomeness, but they are all moderately sized and nothing that even an office jockey couldn't enjoy. My only suggestions are to bring your own food and drinks since they only have hotdogs, chips, and sodas. Also, bring trash bags and towels. You'll want the bags to throw your muddy shoes into, and towels to cover your car's seats in case you're covered in mud and paint. read more

This place is awesome! We had a kids birthday party for a group of 10yr old and everything was great. They have a private option for parties which is nice so the boys could enjoy their time without being too nervous. It was easy to organize between the website and over the phone. The staff were very helpful. They have low impact guns for the kids and everyone got a protective mask. We played several rounds of games and had plenty of paint. The breaks in between the games were a nice way for the boys to take a break and drink some water. There are plenty of picnic tables for sitting. They have drinks and snacks for sale and don't mind if you being your own food. We started with intro and rules. Our group had a referee and he was great with the boys. He was a very good communicator and patient with all their questions and chatter. There are lots of maps/areas and plenty of space. The kids loved all the games and variety. No complaints at all. After research, decided to come here for an afternoon walk-on session with a total of 6 guys for a bachelor party. I've played many paintball courses. This course is incredibly unorganized and pretty low quality. The rental equipment is old and beat up. I specifically asked if the guns were tested prior to use on the fields and despite hearing 'yes', multiple guys in my group had to go get new guns because of failures on the first game. Barrel plugs/sleeves were full of paint which ended up getting in the barrels between games. We were told we could buy paint at the dead zones. The staff didn't bring the iPads with them to process the transactions and wouldn't go get them. So no one had access to paint on the fields. We were told walk all the way back to the proshop, which eats up like 30min of your rental time. Rounds lasted like 5-10 min and we sat around for another 15-20min between rounds waiting for the next to start. So most of time you pay for is spent sitting around. Just my opinion, but continue your search if you're looking for rental sessions. It's a shame because the location is ideal, but they seriously lack organization and quality rental equipment. read more

My son came home from an outing with his soccer team singing the praises of Austin, their team leader for paintball. He was very accommodating and taught them all the different game modes and kept them in line without being mean about it. The boys had a fantastic time. My son had his 10th birthday party at Hogback Mountain Paintball. The first thing I want to point out is safety, that is their main priority, they went in detail with the kids what they could and could not do, we had two refs that stayed with our group the whole time, they had water for all the players and multiple staff telling anyone coming on or off the fields to keep their protection on till they got in the safe zone, the safety zone was heavenly netted. All the fields are well taken care of and all the boys couldn't wait to play on the castle to play capture the flag, the pictures don't even do justice as to how massive the castle field is (I couldn't take pictures for safety reasons). After playing they had multiple covered tables to eat and do party activities, we had many staff come up and ask if we needed anything. My son had a awesome birthday, most of the dads played with their sons and they had a blast. I highly recommend Hogback Mountain Paintball. read more

My BFF is getting married. Idiot! Ha! So to punish him for his deceivingly sensible decision, we decided to take him here to play some paintball. Our group ended up being only six people (too many chickeny bitches, methinks). Getting here was quite a journey. We followed Google's directions with no problem, but as we proceeded, the pickup truck ratio increased significantly. The asphalt ratio dropped. The chance of being abducted by toothless woodsmen and raped in the ass and mouth increased dramatically. Fortunately, we had Burt Reynolds in our group. Anyway, this was really set in the backwoods. And the people who work here were definitely cut from a different cloth than my urbanized self. Annoyingly, they were very chummy with each other, and very indifferent to us. It wasn't really a customer-first attitude, which would have been nice considering half their profits come from city folk venturing out to family-lovin' country to pay their bills. In particular, our guy, Omar, clearly didn't want to be there. At every opportunity, he sat down in the shade with his coworker friends until we dragged him back out to referee another match. We bought the half day package, which for $45 gives you like 3 1/2 hours of play time and rental (gun and ammo). To their credit, they were very safety-friendly. You must keep your mask on until you get into a special, netted safety area. In this area you can rest and rehydrate ($1 for a bottle of water, or bring your own). Speaking of cuisine, they also offered two hot dogs, a little bag of chips, and a can of soda for $5. They had plenty of maps to play, with a nice mix of forest and field. The place was crawling with seemingly semi-professional paintball kids who seemed to most want to play "The Castle", which included a bunch of white fencing and barrels around a central raised steeple, where a flag was placed for each match. We had a few problems with our guns, but that seems normal enough and they were fairly responsive about bringing out different, functioning guns. None of us left with terrible welts, just a few little quarter-sized ones. It really just doesn't hurt that much - just enough to make you not want to get hit (honestly, less than a bee sting, and passes quickly). You're better off spending your hard earned money at PEVs. I recently went to Hogback for the second time, and had a pretty awful experience. For all of the money that I paid, my equipment was just terrible. Both times I've gone, my mask has fogged within the first ten minutes to the point where I literally cannot see anything. I understand that you can get around this by having anti-fog, but these guys didn't have any of it for sale at the park. You would expect that if you're going to pay ALL of this money to rent equipment, you shouldn't need to bring your own anti-fog. In the very least, they should make sure you can see through the mask. Not only was I (and everyone with me) not able to see, and therefore not able to play, but the games were all so unorganized that there wasn't much point anyway. I have experience with a few paintball parks, and this is definitely the worst one I've played at. Don't waste your time and money. read more

Don't shoot me, bro!!! Last Saturday, my wife and I joined a group of her law school friends for an (early) day of paintball at Hogback Mountain. Their location is a bit far from downtown DC, but leaving at 7:45a, we arrived in Leesburg in great time. It was our first time playing paintball so we were both excited and nervous. Their friendly staff put our minds at ease as they provided us with a brief safety tutorial and protective gear (facemask). A few thoughts/suggestions about the experience: -Dress in layers...paintballs sting if they hit the wrong place. -Wear gloves. I got shot in the hand a couple times and it broke the skin. -Use the restroom before starting your session. It was about a 10 minute walk back to the main area and leaving might cause you to miss a couple rounds of gameplay. -There's very little time to strategize after you finish your training. If possible, before you arrive, pick teams so you can devise your plan to dominate your opponents (the blue team rocked!!!!) Overall, we had a great time and would definitely return in the future. read more

We went to Hogback Mountain paintball this weekend to celebrate my sister's birthday. We were a group of 6 without a reservation, which was no problem. Most of us had never played paintball before so they teamed us up with a beginner group for the whole half-day. As a beginner, I felt very safe since they had strict safety rules and were constantly reminding us when to put our barrel covers on. Previous posters have complained about fogging, but the 6 of us had absolutely no problems with our masks. All of our equipment worked great the entire day. We got to experience three different courses and they were all really cool. If I can recall the names correctly, we played in the castle, the alley and the field up in Hog Heaven. We played capture the flag and elimination. All this variety really made the day all the more exciting. This isn't your typical cheap, messy paintball place because you can tell that the owners have invested time and money into the business and also have some great ideas (the different courses and events like zombie and civil war events). On top of that, the employees are so helpful and nice. They were really great at getting "dead" players out of the area by announcing loudly to the whole group and as a nervous beginner, this made me feel a lot better. I also loved that when you got your gun at your safety briefing, there was a little area to do some target practice before you made the trek up to the fields to play the games. For reference, we paid $45/person for about 3-4 hours of paintball games. So all in all, I definitely recommend this place for all your paintball fun.
