But no turron. Who would have thought it was so difficult? Finally, during one of my post-dinner strolls, we found La Veneziana. There was a queue formed inside of the shop, but a peek close to the ice cream case indicated that there was turron ice cream to be had! The two youngsters working behind the counter ensured that the line kept moving and in a few minutes' time, I had a turron and chocolate ice cream cone. Not only were the prices much better than the ice cream shops located along the route that most people choose to take their evening walk, but the ice cream had much more flavor than some of the more "commercial" shops near the old part of San Sebastian. The chocolate ice cream was richer and creamier than the more subtle turron, but it was good to be satisfied with such a post-pintxos find.

As travelers who typically visit Italy every year we are super finicky about what makes good gelato/ice cream. Boulevard Gelateria tastes like they use some artificial boosters and/or stabilizers--said another way the flavor tastes artificial. Arnoldo--the strawberry ice cream tasted artificial At Carlos Arriola, the ice cream is in stainless containers (like the high end gelaterias in Italy). The straciatella was solid and we found the strawberry particularly authentic, natural and delicious. Not sure how this place isn't reviewed in Trip Advisor not Yelp yet but it's the best we've had so far in San Sebastián. This would be solid in any other city in Italy (maybe not Rome, but anywhere else) We had the same flavors at each place--straciatella (chocolate chip) and fresa (strawberry) all on the same day so we made a direct comparison across all three places We haven't tasted Oiartzun ice cream yet. Will update this review if and when we do.
