Portions are generous. Flavors are big and balanced. Just delicious, whether seafood or meat or vegetables. We had scallops in a deep seafood stock, grilled hake with Thai infused coconut milk and lobster oil, and classic Indian butter chicken. Each dish outstanding on its own, all from one kitchen is wow. Presentation is thoughtful and beautiful. Vibe is cool without trying to be cool. Feels relaxed. Fun music playing without being loud or intrusive. Staff are fun and friendly and precise in their care. And to take it all to the next level was our host, Cesar. Not just thoughtful and welcoming but his passion for each dish and the care and thought that goes into them was obvious. His joy is genuine and we appreciated him sharing details with us so we could be part of the fun. In a city with so much wonderful food, La Madame stands out because it is a sit down restaurant, serving fresh and inspired and delicious food, with care and creativity and obsessive detail and pure happiness. Make a reservation, it's worth it. And take in the joy Cesar shares with you through every dish.

The scallops were a main course but only had 5 scallops not starch or vegetables, great flavor. So both that ordered the scallops thought they should be more to the dish. The large prawns from Ecuador influence was delicious with basil and peanut sauce. Everyone said the Indian influenced butter chicken was best dish of the night. The pork potsticker from Vietnam Was really nice. The waiter we had took us on a great food journey during the description. The cocktails were great with a nice variety. The Bad: My group had a 4 star experience I had a 3 star experience. To start we were a party of 6 and they only brought 3 menus and they asked me for my order before I was even able to look at the menu. So having to wait on looking at the menu was rather rude in my opinion each customer should get a menu. So started off with a negative. Especially since they were asking us to order when 2-3 people hadn't even looked at the menu. The waiter should let everyone know to share the menus when they only bring three menus for a party of 6. I ordered the Wellington 2.0 It should be called .5 For me it wasn't an improvement on a beef Wellington it was not even half a beef Wellington. It was a take on Beef Wellington. But the puff pastry was an after thought that didn't even cover the top of my steak. They said the steak would be medium and recommended that. It was just below medium rare very blood. The broccoli was cooked okay but not really seasoned. I had never had parsnips but figured I would try something new it had foie Gras, also so I now know this combination is not for me. See photos So I don't recommend Wellington 2.0 Unless you just very rare medium rare, with parsnip purées and foie Gras.

Such a wonderful chocolate shop to visit if you are in San Sebastian for the day!…read more I will be the first to say that I am not the biggest chocolate fan, yes bring out the pitchforks to hunt me down. With that said though, I do enjoy various types of homemade style chocolate and that is really what Casa Aramendia brings to the table. Located within the tight alleyways of old town San Sebastian, most may pass it by, but do yourself a favor and bookmark this if you are a chocolate fan as it is worthwhile. The staff is very friendly, speak good English, and more than willing to help you choose some delectable chocolate. While browsing around I'd suggest watching the back room where they are making the chocolate you are eating at the moment or in the process of buying. Like most chocolate stores, they are willing to let you nibble on a few samples to help you decide which bunch you will be devouring. One downside, which is a bad word to use in this case, is the chocolate is not cheap, but trust me it is worth it as the flavors are intense and insanely tasty!

We stopped in to purchase the ever popular chocolate iphone. All of the delights of the regular iphone, but with no bugs or new operating systems to make you mad. Super convenient location in old town by all the pinxto bars!

A very unique experience…read more If you have never been to a cider house in Basque Country and do not have an experience or local friend with you, it will take a you a few minutes (or even longer!) to figure out what to do when you walk into one! You are given a glass, walked over to a long wooden table, left with a plate full of delicious chorizo, which usually arrives within the first minutes, and left there to figure the rest out for yourselves! We were fortunate to have a good friend who was born and raised in the area, so he coached us when we visited Petritegi. Our group got a table next to the rows of cider barrels, so all we had to do was get up, take three steps, and fill up our glasses with cider right out of a barrel. Just as we were sitting down, someone in the hall behind us yelled out "txotx!" (pronounced "CHOACH") and a whole bunch people around the hall jumped up and started walking towards him! Our friend told us that "txotx" means the person is about to open the tap on one of the huge barrels. All interested parties are supposed to stand up from their meals, get in line, and hold their glass at just the right angle to catch a couple of fingers of cider from that hissing stream. A lady who was standing behind me on the line saw me filling up my glass, and said, "No, no! pour just a little and keep coming back for more!" Apparently, the idea is to drink your cider while it is still bubbly from the pour. See, you are supposed to hold your glass as far away from the tab as possible so the one inch or so that your pour has as much air bubbles in it as possible! Needless to say that we all got cider all over our hands until we finally got a hang of it and stated txotxing left and right!! Meanwhile at the table the food kept coming! Salt cod omelette, Fried salt cod with peppers, bone-in ribeye steak and for Dessert (cheese, quince jelly, walnuts, almond 'tiles' and 'cigarettes'). Cider and bread were included of course! This meal at Petritegi was one of the most memorable parts of our group of six. We laughed, we drank, we laughed, we talked, we laughed, we ate and we laughed some more and in between we yelled out txotx as often as we could!

Fascinating to see the apple orchards and see how they make cider. So much fun trying to catch cider with a cup as they open the spigot from the giant barrel and cider comes streaming. The traditional Basque meal we had was incredible: sausage, cod omelet, fried cod with bell peppers, huge steak, finished with walnuts, cheese and butter cookies. AND all you can drink cider, ofc. Afterwards we walked to town and caught a bus back to San Sebastián. Perfect outing.

Items Selected: Pelayo…read moreRosquillas Pastel Valesco Fruit Ring Cream Bun Persian Celebrating a temporary break in the rain by visiting Mount Igueldo and the San Sebastian Aquarium it was with weather again turning stormy that shelter was sought at Hogar Dulce Hogar and with the small dining room packed as the heavens once again burst forth the experience was mostly a good one, a half dozen pastries selected to enjoy at a table with free WiFi with only the dried out fruit ring found to lack. Loosely translated as "Home Sweet Home," the interior cozy with service capable of understanding English though somewhat limited in their ability to explain the goods, it was just prior to 18h00 that I arrived to the bustling cafe and although only a fraction of items were listed in terms of names or prices it was largely a matter of experience that guided my order, a few items plated for now with the rest photographed and rebagged for later. Obviously no longer warm given the time of arrival, most of the items likely sitting on shelves since the bakery opened midday, it was first in bites of an item labeled as "Pelayo" that my palate was entrusted, the almond-crusted cake something like a Pastel Crema fortified with frangipane while the more traditional Pastel Valesco was itself topped in nuts, the interior just short of 'set' and eggy with restrained sweetness. Already mentioning the fruit ring, a laminated 'donut' that may have been good when fresh but clearly here suffering from time left uncovered behind glass, a far better flavor was found in the cinnamon-sugar dusted Rosquillas, the texture not unlike that of a churro with a light crunch to the outside giving way to a wispy open crumb. Relatively straight forward with the cream bun, the dough itself light while insides were more "custard" than the those found elsewhere in Spain, it was finally with a crispy Persian that the tasting concluded and with a similar vanilla texture sandwiched between flaky layers of puff pastry the results were by far the best version of the item found throughout my Basque visit - potentially the best pastry sampled in all of San Sebastian.
