They started strong, had a fun atmosphere, a great menu, & the waitress was awesome. She was super fast for how busy they were! The laté was a little watered down for my taste, orange juice, and kombucha were great! Ordered lime bread & the bread was pretty dry. Also ordered the benedict, and the egg was so undercooked/raw on the benny that I'm not sure how they got it on the avocado, no exaggeration! I was struggling, so I forgot to take a pic. Second visit to San Sebastián and of course I'm here at Sakona once again!! This is a real coffee roaster so they know quality coffee! The first visit was in October 2016 and they were the new kid in town. I'm so glad they are doing well and I can get REAL coffee on the Camino Norte! Today was hot so a Café Frio (Cold Brew) with Oatly 'milk' was PERFECTO! Great location next to the river and right across from old town. Also only a few blocks to the train & bus station. The staff is wonderful. Nice smile to greet us. And free WiFi. Always a plus. Seating inside and outside in the open air. A must visit! read more

Came here for a quick brunch on our last day in San Sebastián and it was super tasty! I even bought a bag of coffee beans to take home with me. I ordered the espresso americano and the Benedict dish, husband ordered the juice and mixto sandwich. Everything was delightful! It was quite busy on Saturday around noon so expect a short wait. read more

I liked the hip, minimalist vibe at Sakona. I ordered an almond milk cappuccino, chia pudding and some toast - all good stuff. The bread was warm, thick and fluffy served with some strawberry jam - delicious. The chia was good (fairly standard). Cappuccino was smooth. Excellent brunch spot in San Sebastian for artisan coffee and a bite. I ordered the pastrami sandwich, jam on brioche bread, and a Honduran drip coffee. All highly recommended. We tried to order more items off the menu; however, they were out of those items. Other than that mild disappointment, this would be a regular spot for me if I live in San Sebastian. read more

A fantastic coffee shop in San Sebastian, with a beautiful cafe and a delicious set of offerings for food. After countless flat whites and cortados in Barcelona, having a pour over to share at Sakona was just what I was looking for. We sat outside and did some people watching while slowly drinking our coffee. My only wish was that they had beans available for us to take home. At the time, their shipment was late and didn't have any small bags of beans available for purchase. Definitely stop here if you're an enthusiast for third wave coffee! read more

Wow what a cute coffee shop. Situated across the street from the last bridge of the nearby river, with the Atlantic Ocean just a stones throw away, its location is quite beautiful. The design of the interior is intimidatingly modern, with tiny chairs and beautiful displays. This being Europe, it's unclear if you sit down first or order at the bar. The coffee: a few different roasts from South America and Africa, with their own bright though slightly bitter espresso. We got a Kenyan bean, brewed by a truly impressive automated drop pour machine (I realize now I should have taken a photo of it given how remarkable it was), and an espresso. The flavors were quite nice between the two different drinks. If you're interested in flavor, this is a great place to come. Beyond that, service was a bit slow with only one person working and a bunch of caffeine starved customers, though the man brewing and pulling espresso was truly delightful and played with the children which some other customers brought into the shop. I can't fault the service when you're so thoughtful towards every customer there. It was a great experience. Though my time in San Sebastián was short, I'd recommend this as an afternoon of morning coffee place to anyone who visits. read more

As stated in my review for Old Town Coffee (the other "third wave cafe" in town), I am super fussy about coffee. I just don't enjoy the old school style much and I go seeking third wave cafes everywhere we go. Husband and I also really like to support the small local places that are doing their own thing. (It may be worth mentioning that we've lived in Seattle the past 8 years and that may have something to do with our coffee fussiness! ha.) Sakona is wonderful in so many ways - they're in a GREAT location, basically across the street from the beach. The staff was all SO nice and though they all appear to speak English, they were very patient and helpful with my Spanish. The coffee is delicious - they roast their own beans here and we brought some home with us. (Though we haven't used them yet, I'll be bummed when they're gone!) We didn't get any food but their pastries looked very tempting. Next time we go back to San Sebastian, we will be ping ponging back and forth every day between Sakona and Old Town. (One for our morning coffee and the other for our afternoon top up!) read more

For an excellent coffee, this is the place to come! Freshly roasted beans, fancy espresso and drip machines brewed to perfection. They didn't have almond milk when I visited in April 2017, but I believe they had Oat milk. read more

Was in San Sebastián for 3 days and came here twice. Loved the interior decor, the baristas were very nice, vibe of the place was minimalist yet warm and most importantly, their coffee was the best I've had! I originally wanted a cappuccino with low fat milk but the barista said the only milk they have is one they source from a specialty dairy farm so I was up for that! It was an amazing cappuccino, the milk was not overpowering and the coffee was just the right amount of strong. I would def recommend for any coffee connoisseur! read more

This is the "premium" place to get coffee in San Sebastian. Their blends and methods of brewing are right on trend and well done. My only complaint is minor: the prices are on the high side, especially if you want to take home some beans. What I mean is, the price is high for Spain but if you are serious and particular about your coffee, it's what you'd expect. read more

My first breakfast in San Sebastian. This cafe has a very modern interior design with a very friendly, english speaking staff. I ordered the Eggs Benedict on recommendation of another customer for 7 euros. It is a classic eggs bennie with ham with what I believe are two twists: added lime juice and some bread I cannot identify. The bennie was surprisingly light, yet filling. The hint of lime juice added a very nice touch. The bread they used was excellent. The texture is something akin to a croissant (thin, crisp exterior, fluffy interior). I think this is a nice change from what I am used to with the english muffin, which can sometimes be a bit too tough/chewy/difficult to cut with the knife and sometimes even painful for the gums! I think it is worth 7 euros to try once. Also had a local IPA (basquelans brewing project - imparable). Coming from San Diego (I dare say home of some excellent IPAs), I found this to be very refreshing. From my experience of some Spanish wines, it seems they tend to have very light and refreshing wines. This IPA follows in that trend; very light, but not to be confused with flavorless or diluted. I like it and would order again! Apparently these brewers are Americans living in the region. read more

If you are looking for a small artisanal roaster who cares as much for a quality pour over as they do a quality espresso based drink, then this is one of two beautiful shops we found in San Sebastián. The SO Rwandan they had on hand when I was visiting was really nice both as an espresso and as a Flat White. Excellent location with clean design lines, laid back atmosphere and great music. One can either meet friends, edit their thousands of travel pictures, read a book or do some work. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars was that when I asked if they had anything fresher than 4 weeks from the roast date they told me that it's best from 3 - 6 weeks and I was buying in the best time... We live in Seattle & don't go to the Green Monster. I've worked in coffee for a few years now and have tried hundreds if not thousands of coffees at this point. I get that I'm a little more particular than the average tourist. I still bought it since I won't be back to this part of the world soon enough & I want small, artisan shops to thrive but I wish they would have just said "sorry but we don't." If anyone actively seeks you out and then asks about roast levels or roast dates, they probably are geeky enough to know 2 - 3 weeks past the roast date is about the shelf life for best taste. All in all, if you like coffee that's not bitter or burnt, try this place out, you won't be disappointed! read more

A sleek and modern new cafe - not yet a month old when i first visited - with a laid back vibe and spring-up strong coffee that they roast themselves and will happily chat about. The best tasting coffee in the city - try the Cortado - and an amazing view out over the water. You'll want to get into Sakona while its still quiet, before it becomes the next big thing on the San Sebastian scene, and once you do you wont want to go anywhere else. read more

Great variety of coffee and brewing methods on offer here. The cafe and menu could be straight out of an inner city menu in Australia. I recommend a degustation, where you can try filter, espresso and milk coffee alongside each other to taste the differences. read more
