Prime rib and cowboy beans
Alison K.

When you pull in the parking lot and the place is packed to the gills...that says two important things to me-- good food and decent prices. The sign out front advertises Thursday night special is a prime rib dinner. Hmmm. I wonder how much a piece of prime rib will cost here? Prime rib elsewhere runs about $26 or more, depending on the sides you get with it. So I go in and wait while they're clearing some tables, but this nice tall fellow asks me if I'm also waiting for a table and I reply with a smile and a yes. He asks how many? I hold up my index finger and he smiles and asks if I'd like to be seated outside on the porch--it's a nice evening, not hot--it's screened in and there's no bugs, so I knod approvingly and grab myself a small table with just the two seats. Also seated outside happened to be a lovely older couple who asked this fellow about their reservations coming up to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. I was unaware you could reserve the back porch for special events along with the "back yard" that's littered with the odd seating from rocking chairs to picnic benches, games of all kinds and even a quasi fire pit. Looks like they're going to have a great time with their family--some of whom are flying in from as far as Oregon. The interior is almost like walking into a Cracker Barrel but not as crowded--gifts, canned goods, pickled things, candy and lip balm. Cute cards and bottled wine. Everything intriguing and eye-catchingly clean and dust free. I've found that annoys me when items are left to gather dust and I think to myself "is it extra for the accumulation of dust on top?". I go ahead and decide to try their prime rib special, but forego the baked potato because there's no way I could eat all those carbohydrates...I get a small side salad and a small serving of "cowboy" beans, which are probably pinto beans . I also order their "cowboy" egg rolls and figure I'll eat a little and take the rest home. My salad comes to me and it's nothing fancy, but fresh and crisp. Then my egg rolls. Dipped in some ranch, they're really good. Coleslaw, briskety goodness. Not far into my first 1/2 of an egg roll, out comes my prime rib and it looks GORGEOUS! So glad I decided against getting a huge baked potato, because I ended up pouring the beans on the same plate, where they took a nice swim in the accompanying au jus. I've had lots of prime rib before. Always cooked in an oven and with tons of herbs on the outside. This is one I'd never had before in my whole life. Smoked prime rib. What a flavor difference! Usually, what's on the outside and the au jus and/or horseradish adds some flavor to a prime rib. Smokiness never enters that picture. It's a whole other taste/flavor sensation you're not expecting and are surprised when this tender piece of meat hits your tongue! So good! Will I go back? You betcha! $19.99 for a huge chunky slice of smoked prime rib and two sides? Heck yeah! There's a special most days, I heard. I'm going to hafta check out the rest of the days! Good service, good food and fabulous prices--NOW I know why they were packed!

Cowboy egg rolls, cornbread, and corn nuggets.

This is a hidden gem well worth seeking out. The location is not along a beach or in a swanky neighborhood but it offers food and a relaxed setting just as good. We come here when we're looking for a nice motorcycle ride snd good food as a result. This time I had their cowboy egg rolls, a unique combination of beef brisket inside a traditional eggroll wrapper with slaw inside. They were amazing dipped into sweet barbecue sauce. I paired them with corn nuggets and macaroni and cheese. The nuggets were sweet and hot. The macaroni and cheese came with large noodles smothered in creamy cheese. My husband opted to try the swai sandwich. The fish was well cooked and hot but the sandwich was plain and could have used some lettuce and tomato. We topped both meals off with a tasty bowl of mint chocolate ice cream. That made the ride home even better! Good service, cold beer, and multiple wine options make this little place an amazing stop.

We stopped today on our way back home from Ocala and we're very pleasantly surprised! The staff was great and very welcoming, the owner even made a point of making sure we had the best table for my husband who is in a wheelchair. The food was awesome and made fresh to order. Also the quirky Style of the decor was fun to look around it was a fun mix of everything from TV and movie stuff to country stuff. It was a really fun meal and we will definitely stop again next time we're in the area!

What a place! Hidden gem. Food is amazing and if it wasn't outside the metropolitan areas, you'll have to pay a lot for this type of quality meat and everything they have overall. Local wine selection with affordable bottle prices. That being said, if I could, I'd give them 10 stars, mainly because of their great staff, service, and the type of hospitality is hard to find nowadays. I will take this place any given day over top rated city steakhouse.

BBQ and celebrating a Birthday. We ate on the back porch with direct access to the fenced in back area.

My family of four loves going to Hog Wild Country Cafe for their Great food, great service, southern hospitality experience. Definitely recommend. Our oldest requested for his birthday dinner to be here and it was great!

This review is for their smaller location called hog, wild burgers, and shakes. If you find yourself in the area, you absolutely must stop by this little joint. So good! Fresh burger the bun was delicious. The meat was juicy. I had the bacon burger that I forgot to take a picture of before I started eating. Sorry about that. It was so good. My husband had a spicy version and he loved it. He was sweating for 30 minutes.the fries came out piping hot and their ice cream was also delicious. Just you won't regret it.

We went yesterday for the first time. Loved it!!! It is a great country BBQ place with indoor and outside seating. Melissa took great care of us. She advised us on what to get. We started with the Cowboy Eggrolls. They were great. I would order a few of them and make a meal out of it with their ranch dipping sauce. Our son had the Prime Rib Sandwich with Fries. He loved it. Said, it was the best sandwich - EVER! We shared the 3 Meat Sampler w/Beef Brisket, Smoked Sausage & Smoked Turkey. Sides - Mac + Cheese, Onion Rings. Great stick to your ribs food!!! We used their BBQ and Mustard Sauces along with the Ranch Sauce. Really good. Don't want to forget about the house made Sweet Tea. Then to top it off we had the Marshmallow Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cake. WOW!!! FANTASTIC!!! What a great dinner! Next time we will try the Ribs. We will definitely be back. Great Job, Melissa!!! This is one of those places where everything is so good that you don't know what to order.

Pulled pork sandwich and potato salad

Stopped here on way back from Ocala and had very few expectations. They were already sold out of brisket, corn and Mac and cheese. I got the pulled pork sandwich and potato salad. It did not disappoint. Cute little store inside. I'll be stopping back again for sure.

The service was good. I ordered fish and it was over cooked. They might do well on other things but I wanted fish and I won't go back.

We were looking for more than just lunch--we wanted an outing where we could bring our dog, enjoy…read morethe beautiful weather, and stretch our legs a bit. Captain's BBQ at Bing's Landing checked every box. We enjoyed lunch under the canopy of live oaks overlooking the water, then wandered over to the free Mala Compra Plantation Archaeological Preserve for a little local history before heading home. Even Oreo enjoyed the walk. This visit, we both ordered the Cuban sandwich. My dining companion said it's her favorite thing on the menu. While it wasn't my favorite item I've had here, it was still enjoyable. I actually preferred the pulled pork sandwich I ordered on a previous visit, so next time I'll probably go back to that. Now let's talk desserts...because that's where Captain's BBQ really wins me over! Their desserts are consistently delicious, generously sized, and absolutely worth saving room for. I also appreciate that they offer a more interesting drink selection than you'd expect from a casual barbecue spot. Besides the usual fountain drinks, you'll find glass bottles of Cheerwine and Jarritos along with canned ciders, ales, and hard seltzers. Ordering is simple. You stand in line to place your order, then wait for your name to be called at the pickup counter before choosing to dine inside, on the covered porch, or at one of the picnic tables outside. One thing that gives Captain's BBQ extra character is the decor. Take a few minutes to look around inside--the walls are filled with local memorabilia, community awards, and fun Palm Coast touches that make the restaurant feel connected to the area rather than just another barbecue joint. And don't leave once you've finished eating! Right next door is the free Mala Compra Plantation Archaeological Preserve, where you can walk through the preserved archaeological site and learn a little local history. It adds a unique element to your visit and turns lunch into a relaxing afternoon exploring one of Flagler County's hidden gems. Overall, Captain's BBQ offers much more than just good food. Between the scenic waterfront setting, shady oak trees, dog-friendly outdoor seating, delicious desserts, interesting drink selection, and the chance to explore local history just steps away, it's an easy place to spend a few enjoyable hours. We'll definitely be back!

A solid 3.5 since we can only give full stars…read more Good sized parking lot. Ordered burnt ends $16.99 and brisket plate $15.99. Pretty quick service - they call out when your order is ready. We wanted to really like this place and had high hopes due to the other reviews but brisket was a little on the dry side and the burnt ends were a bit hard and fatty. The best thing was the tangy mustard sauce. Big open screened are in back overlooking the water. Noise level not too bad. We were hoping for better but glad we stopped to try it.

It's ALWAYS the lackluster places, that don't take constructive criticism very well. You have no idea how much I can smoke, and I will smoke circles around you. How many competitions have you been in again? No need to act all snooty, because your food sucks and you don't know how to carve a tri-tip, nor do you know how to smoke a brisket. And your "professional pitmaster" Can't even smoke a pork butt for pulled pork, but in such a hurry to crank out an inferior product, can only make sliced. What is that, 6 hours on a smoker? Hahaha!!! In my no holds barred review, I actually complimented you on MULTIPLE facets. And since you want to act the way that you're acting and throw a fit because you're serving an inferior product and bragging about speed over quality, I'm going to knock you down to one star! How do you like that? REAL pitmasters smoke brisket (AND PULLED pork) And the last I checked, it's not on YOUR menu. ::shrug:: Your food actually sucks, and I was trying to be positive and give you guys a higher rating, by someone who actually KNOWS BBQ, but since you went and did what you did, I'll just come out & say it! "One" rack of ribs XD. My ribs are Johnny Trigg style, and take 6 hours from beginning to end with another 12 going into prep, and I can smoke WAY more than one rack at a time, dummy. Do you even know what kind of smoker I have? Did you bother to look? Ditch the attitude. Because the only thing you're really got going on for you right now, is that you don't use a pellet oven. How about this, I'll come back through, and take over your operation for a week, free of charge, and show you how it's REALLY done, and get your ratings up a little bit higher, and make sure that not just the locals are leaving your reviews? We'll see who the amateur is then. You have no idea what I've smoked in my life, or the smokers that I've used. You also have zero idea about my culinary past. Rage emotion much? Yeah, that's a telltale sign of insecurity. How about this, I'll bring an offset reverse flow trailer smoker, park it in Circle k, and take all of your business while you're in a scurry "wrapping" your "87 pounds of beef" or whatever it is to a demographic that doesn't know true barbecue, But are just happy to have something other than Mexican and Cuban food. You probably serve "Award winning 'fall of the bone' ribs", which in a competition, you would be disqualified for. Because all you got to do is steam those puppies and then throw them in your traeger (sp?) and slap on your pungent, lame, whack sauce that you emphatically offer, to cover up the inferiority of your barbecue. You should have kept your mouth shut. I compliment you, and you take a dump on me? Y'all better hope a REAL smokehouse doesn't open up in your demographic, because you'll go belly up. As a matter of fact, I've actually been looking for a new location for a new restaurant. Hmmmm.... Yeah... Smokin "D's" is RIGHT HAHAHAHA!
