I've been traveling by this bbq joint for years and finally decided to pop in and now I want to try breakfast there too! It was Memorial Day weekend- Sunday and mid afternoon and what better than bbq that I didn't sweat over to make! John and I both ordered lunch plates- I got the turkey with corn on the cobb and sweet potato fries. The thin sliced turkey was deli meat thin- I probably would try something else nest time- the turkey wasn't my favorite. John got sliced pork and it was very yummy! We ate here today passing through on a road trip and were pleasantly surprised. There is dishes came out quick and it was really good. Plenty of food too. I had the kids plate and although it was one less piece of garlic bread, I got more meat than my mom's big deal meal. The beans and sauces were great. WARNING! Get your grave ready, this is PERFECT HOSPITAL FOOD. My dogs eat better! Young staff don't know how to cook. Ordered open face turkey sandwich with gravy. Should have stayed home & ate canned dog food but I was desperate. The toast was ok, instant spuds= 0 flavor. Turkey =lunchmeat (no smoke flavor for a BBQ shop) diced into triangles also with ZERO flavor (Oscar Meyer this place is no threat to you). And, cheapest ass flavored Beef bullion on top for gravy. How can you get gravy wrong? No salt, no pepper, no onion, garlic or spice of any kind. I was hungry & desperate & should have just walked out. On our way to North Carolina, we decided to stop for some lunch. The restaurant is located in a nondescript building and backs up to a park and lake. There are picnic tables there, so you can eat outside if you want. Amy was our lovely and hospitable server and Dave ordered the rib platter with coleslaw and potato salad. I had the smoked turkey platter with the same sides. I asked Amy which foods were lower in sodium and she guided me. Both had smoked deliciousness without being very salty. I didn't particularly care for the coleslaw, which was a little sweet for my taste. In addition, there were two slices of grilled bread with butter. Amy brought me a to go cup filled with fresh black coffee. It's wonderful to stop in some of these old Florida towns and support their local community businesses! read more

Pretty disappointed. I came here after riding the Hawthorne Trail and it's honestly one of few places to eat in little Hawthorne. I was hoping for a gem of a country restaurant on the order of the Dixie Diner in Cross City, but alas, not the case. The BBQ chicken was ok but my sides--collard greens and French fries were sub-par as was the house garlic toast which comes with their dinner plates. It taste about like Sonny's and I'm not at all a fan of Sonny's. Certainly not the depth of flavor you get at Pearl Country BBQ and other leaders in BBQ in the region. The waitress was ok but the table next to me was a bunch of old people talking loudly about depressing illnesses and such . . . whatever happened to old folks talking about World War II and Nancy Reagan's dresses or whatever? Noisy, depressing, people. But that's not the restaurant's fault, however the food was lackluster and the rather cluttered front of the restaurant appeared to have not been dusted since the Reagan years, either. Great pit stop along the road. The pulled pork has a lot of flavor and wasn't fatty! They have multiple flavors of BBQ. Sides were all great. Cornbread was a little dry but had decent flavor. First time here. Came because Yelp had them at 4.5 Stars! 4.5 Stars .... Really? Menu is very limited (see photo) Unfortunately, what little they do, they don't do very well. I put them a little above Kentucky Fried Chicken, very little above. Most probably would say they rather have KFC. We had the Smoked Turkey "Dinner" which was basically lunch meat that they served as a dinner. (Come on Guys! ... Turkey Dinner??) We had BBQ Chicken was dry and fatty. For sides ... Not very good instant Mashed potatoes, did I mention bad instant potatoes?and Collard Greens (average). In short, and based on the 4.5 star ratings they must really be hard up for restaurants around here or this place has recently changed hands in the last (2)two days. (2) days because they had a Yelper here and said it was great ... (5) Stars????? I'm thinking of starting a restaurant down the road it would have to be a slam dunk success. We're visiting from out of state & love to try non-chain restaurants with local fare ...Score!! Dianne's Old Time BBQ provided just what we were looking for! We went on a Wednesday evening, pleased to find a casual, at ease atmosphere with a mix of Locals and Newbies! Saw "Hornet Rolls" on the Menu, intrigued by the name,...had no clue what they were. Our Waitress, Brooklyn, was so sweet, she freely & openly provided us with descriptions of multiple listed items when asked, starting with the Hornet Rolls. OMG!- They were wicked-good! They came out nice and hot, freshly made, a savory surprise treat, accompanied by their "Hornet sauce" for dipping. Yum!!..Definitely give them a try! My husband ordered Onion Rings, and those bad-boys came out with their crispy hot coating around sweet onions,...with the flavor bursting when dipped in their ranch dressing. Tough decision to choose a specific dinner,...so much looked so good! (FYI- we're not hesitant about taking "doggy bags" home, just in case.) Hubby ordered the larger combo platter: dark meat chicken; ribs; pork; and beef.. & in case that wasn't enough, it came with 2 sides & Garlic bread!! The chicken and ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender!!...the variety of BBQ sauces made for a very nice taste-bud treat..Be sure to ask for the mustard BBQ sauce and the Hot BBQ suace. The sliced beef & pork were fork-tender,...no knives needed...and supremely tasty,..especially with the round-robin BBQ sauce sampling! He chose the Baked Beans , with their sweet & savory mix and also chose the collards (as did I). The greens were flavorful with hearty-sized pieces of meat which added to this Southern specialty. I make my own greens and enjoy trying other folks' recipes. For myself,...I chose the sliced beef & pork combo platter,...so was able to try my own variety of BBQ sauce combinations, flavor burst per each forkful! I also had a side of Mac & Cheese, 'cause, if I'm gonna go "Home-cooking", I had to choose it! It was a classic, hot, melted,cheesey goodness! Topping off my dinner platter extravaganza was a warm, golden cornbread that was NOT dry, and complemented the dinner perfectly! Yes, we DID take home leftovers! The portions were definitely hungry-man appetite sized far-from skimpy!! Service was excellent! It's now Thursday evening, & we are both looking forward to having our leftovers for dinner tonight!! I don't usually give scathing reviews, but my sense of this place is that this review is not going to stop the locals from frequenting the place but it might save a hapless traveler from an abysmal experience. I was looking forward to cubes of fresh roasted turkey breast, not the half package of buddig lunch meat on a wilted bed of rusty iceberg, a handful of croutons, two mealy, pale tomato halves and no vinaigrette dressing available. I honestly have not seen a salad that pathetic maybe ever. Dianne ought to just pull it from the menu rather than try to scrape together outdated ingredients for the rare customer naïve enough to order it. My husband ordered the dinner plate with pulled pork. The pork was room temperature. The green beans were obviously from a can, the mashed potatoes instant, the brown gravy also instant. Why go out to eat if you're going to get lousy, instant quasi-food? Maybe for the ambiance of the restaurant? Nope. Not here. Make sure to wash your hands after eating. The best thing we had was our freshly brewed iced tea. It was hard not to find humor in our experience, especially when the waitress came by to ask about our meals and we both just nodded. What could we possibly say? If you are driving through town around dinner time, do yourself a favor and root around in your console for a stale package of oyster crackers and keep driving. read more

Went here Sunday the 19th after watching the vintage motocross races in Waldo. That was super seeing those old bikes. So... Because Dianne's is in sort of a nothing central FL town, I wasn't sure about this place. Wrong assumption! Nice portions of excellent food at a very reasonable price considering today's inflation. We heard the owner mentioning that she may sell the place. Buyouts often equate to a serious compromise in quality. It's a bit of a trudge for us but we will be back soon. On our way to Savannah with our dog and saw this place. When you locals out front, there has to be something to it. Staff was super friendly and the food was good and cheap considering the portion size. Our dog enjoyed the smoked turkey while we had the pulled pork. The sauce on it was a bit on the sweet side but that is just a personal preference since I love Texas BBQ. We sat at the picnic tables out back with a pretty lake view. We even saw a gator swimming out in the lake. A quick yummy meal that beats the heck out of fast food. read more

Early dinner on a very stormy day in Florida and Georgia. Everyone was very welcoming! I ordered the Dianne's salad with both bbq sliced pork and bbq beef, it is easily one of the BEST salads I've had in a long while. Fresh, so filling and absolutely delicious. Garlic bread was perfect! Hubby got a bbq beef sandwich on garlic bread with their bbq beans and said it was absolutely delicious. The bbq beans were great in my opinion. Even though we were both full from our dinners, we split a piece of fresh pecan pie - what a fine finish!! We stopped here for breakfast back in October and it was terrific, we're so glad we stopped today for this meal. Kudos to Candace and the chefs/cooks, we will definitely stop again on our next trip through Hawthorne and hope you will too! Drinks, our meals and dessert were just under 30$. Superb!! read more

If you order the bbq chicken and baked potato as a side, you may be ok. The Texas toast was decent. The veggies and other sides are all canned and very, very over cooked. Canned collards, canned beans, canned green beans, none of it good. Their French fries are Ore Ida crinkle fries thrown in a deep fryer. The bbq sauces are sweet, mild or hot. Passable, but all tasted the same. Pepper sauce could not save any of the veggies. But if you're in Hawthorne, it's the only bbq place. read more
