My supper (pulled pork, baked beans & cotc)
    Glen C.

1st off, I was born between 4 & 5 stars, but Lilly, my waitress showed great care that I decided on 5! The pulled pork is very tasty, moist & a bit dry on the edges (as it should be). The corn on the cob wasn't my favorite but the baked beans were worth the taste! If you're looking for a fancy restaurant, then move along but if you're okay with down home cooking and a country sweet atmosphere, then you've come to the right place! Put on your overalls or church clothes or shorts, it's a place for all who don't judge PS, the sweet tea is southern sweet!

Well the service was so fast and it was packed in the place. Old style restaurant with nice" at home" feel. Food was plentiful. Had BBQ chicken with a sweet potato and Green beans. Yes it's the same meal because checking out same items just different places. It was delicious. Sauces were great. Sorry it was a late lunch, almost forgot to take a picture. Drumstick is gone!

Turkey and sweet potato in back beef and pork with beans, Mac cheese and garlic bread. The homemade sauces were on point too!

Great place for barbecue! Cute little hometown restaurant. We stopped on our road trip through Hawthorne. Apparently Dianne is the daughter of the original Sonny's restaurant and wanted to serve breakfast so didn't turn this location into one of chains locations. The service was fast and friendly! We all got a little something different and all enjoyed everything.

On our way to North Carolina, we decided to stop for some lunch. The restaurant is located in a nondescript building and backs up to a park and lake. There are picnic tables there, so you can eat outside if you want. Amy was our lovely and hospitable server and Dave ordered the rib platter with coleslaw and potato salad. I had the smoked turkey platter with the same sides. I asked Amy which foods were lower in sodium and she guided me. Both had smoked deliciousness without being very salty. I didn't particularly care for the coleslaw, which was a little sweet for my taste. In addition, there were two slices of grilled bread with butter. Amy brought me a to go cup filled with fresh black coffee. It's wonderful to stop in some of these old Florida towns and support their local community businesses!

We stopped in while passing through on the way to Tampa, Fl. The service was fast, the food was fantastic and the ambiance was homely. My husband had the ribs with green beans and corn lunch special. I had sliced turkey with potato salad and baked beans. I really enjoyed the food and the signs that were posted were hilarious.

Pretty disappointed. I came here after riding the Hawthorne Trail and it's honestly one of few places to eat in little Hawthorne. I was hoping for a gem of a country restaurant on the order of the Dixie Diner in Cross City, but alas, not the case. The BBQ chicken was ok but my sides--collard greens and French fries were sub-par as was the house garlic toast which comes with their dinner plates. It taste about like Sonny's and I'm not at all a fan of Sonny's. Certainly not the depth of flavor you get at Pearl Country BBQ and other leaders in BBQ in the region. The waitress was ok but the table next to me was a bunch of old people talking loudly about depressing illnesses and such . . . whatever happened to old folks talking about World War II and Nancy Reagan's dresses or whatever? Noisy, depressing, people. But that's not the restaurant's fault, however the food was lackluster and the rather cluttered front of the restaurant appeared to have not been dusted since the Reagan years, either. Just not very impressed at all.

Great pit stop along the road. The pulled pork has a lot of flavor and wasn't fatty! They have multiple flavors of BBQ. Sides were all great. Cornbread was a little dry but had decent flavor. Garlic bread could use more garlic. Good but tasted like buttered toast. Our waitress was very attentive. We'll definitely stop back in to try their breakfast during our next pass through town!

Small little cozy local place. People are really nice. Southern hospitality.

Relaxed ambience. Food was great. Had bbq chicken with dark meat. Mash potato and Cole slaw. All very good.

BBQ and more. Try the beans and franks.

Small business and great staff and great food. Second time I have eaten here and same quality both times.

Turkey (WHAT) dinner ... Your kidding?
    Marcia F.

First time here. Came because Yelp had them at 4.5 Stars! 4.5 Stars .... Really? Menu is very limited (see photo) Unfortunately, what little they do, they don't do very well. I put them a little above Kentucky Fried Chicken, very little above. Most probably would say they rather have KFC. We had the Smoked Turkey "Dinner" which was basically lunch meat that they served as a dinner. (Come on Guys! ... Turkey Dinner??) We had BBQ Chicken was dry and fatty. For sides ... Not very good instant Mashed potatoes, did I mention bad instant potatoes?and Collard Greens (average). In short, and based on the 4.5 star ratings they must really be hard up for restaurants around here or this place has recently changed hands in the last (2)two days. (2) days because they had a Yelper here and said it was great ... (5) Stars????? I'm thinking of starting a restaurant down the road it would have to be a slam dunk success. PS: SERVICE WAS GOOD.

I have been here before, but not since the shutdown hit. Business hours have changed to just the weekends, and the menu this time around was limited to almost all seafood. No ribs in sight, which is kind of sad. They were only doing outdoor seating as well, but sitting outside was quite pleasant. I ordered a grouper platter with fries and baked beans, and it came out in short order. The fish was good... I enjoyed it quite a lot. It didn't need tartar sauce or anything. The fries were also good, and held up throughout the meal. The beans are more what I would call cowboy beans rather than barbecue beans, but they were still good. I do hope that things pick up for this place and they return to the larger menu.

No, the word "shack" in the business name of Randy's Rib Shack is also a pretty accurate description of the exterior of this business. This should not be taken as a negative though. It is a fair description and the food offered here compliments such humble surroundings. The food here is pure Americana and done pretty good. Of course, as with most restaurants, some of the menu items are done better than others. The ribs here are good (they better be, since they are literally in the name of the business). Don't get me wrong, I have had better food, but the dining options around here seemed a bit limited and this place was a good choice.

My family, the six of us, most who live very close, my wife and I, visiting from CA, made our usual visit to Woodpecker's during an "around Florida" vacation. We visited many spots of my youth between Jax & St. Petersburg while dining at old favorites and several BBQ joints along the way. Without a doubt, Woodpecker's Backyard Barbecue was the best by far. The last time we were there, the turkey stole a show as it was the best turkey I have ever eaten in a barbecue restaurant. This time the brisket was the number one meat, equalling or bypassing any I have had anywhere, even in the many Texas joints we have tried. It was right up there with Franklin's and other top Texas offerings. All of their meats were extremely good. Their sides are very interesting as well as good tasting utilizing a lot of dátil pepper to flavor several and add a little bite of spice. My only wish is that it was closer than the 2547 miles away that it is. If you are anywhere near woodpecker's backyard, barbecue, go. Go. Go. You will not regret it.

Food is served in a to-go bag from the walk up window and comes with everything you need to land a happy belly and a messy face. I have lived around here for years and wondered if there was a reason why this place is always bursting at the seams on nice days. Now I know, this is some legit bbq. The portions are generous, the chicken was tender, the beef ribs were huge, and the coleslaw is very similar to a fried chicken place (with only three letter letters in its name)... Which was my most favorite coleslaw in the whole wide world. No french fries though. But the coleslaw makes up for it. I told my BF that I would absolutely travel down there (30 min) just to pick up some to-go chicken and coleslaw. He also told me that the datil pepper cornbread was deliciously spicy with a real pepper kick.
