When I contacted SOS Plumbing, the owner told me he intentionally didn't install the required expansion tank because he was "trying to save me some money" and didn't know I was planning to sell my home. Instead of taking responsibility for the code violations, he quoted me another $800-900 to correct his own work. I refused to pay twice for the same job and hired another licensed plumbing company, paid an additional $750 to bring the installation into compliance. A homeowner shouldn't have to tell a licensed plumber they're planning to sell their home to receive a code-compliant installation. Paying premium prices should mean getting professional work done correctly the first time--not paying someone else to fix it later. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend SOS Plumbing and would urge anyone considering to think twice before trusting these 5 star reviews! Update: Since business owner replied(pretty classic "defensive rewrite of history" response): Just to be clear. please don't reframe "code compliance" as optional upgrades. Those are not "nice-to-have upgrades". they're required for compliant installation. And please stop that "budget priority" claim. That is not true. Don't try to justify omissions on your end. did not request a non-compliant installation or decline required code-compliance work. At no point was I informed that the installation would not pass occupancy inspection or that required code items were being excluded from the work performed. The water heater installation later failed occupancy inspection during the sale of my home, requiring additional work to bring it into compliance. While scope and pricing were discussed, I relied on a licensed contractor to complete a code-compliant installation and to clearly communicate any items required for compliance at the time of service. It is not reasonable to expect a homeowner to independently identify or approve hidden code deficiencies during what was represented as a standard installation. I was not seeking a "budget" or stripped-down installation. If cost-cutting was the primary expectation, I would have chosen a different contractor. The equipment installed was a Bradford White unit, which is a professional-grade water heater, not a low-cost or economy product. I specifically chose to go with this business because they have a premium brand unit available and I know this is not a budget big box store option. So please stop bringing up that "budget" claim. The business's response is misleading and not consistent with what was communicated or agreed upon at the time of service. The characterization that I declined required code-compliance work is not accurate.

We had three other plumbers out to try to resolve the issue and they always just passed the buck ("you'll have to call someone else") or suggested replacing and entire shower stack ($2k+). Bore's was able to fit me in earlier than scheduled due to a cancellation, and used actual common sense to identify the issue, which was much easier to resolve than previously thought. The apprentice plumber called in to the master plumber Michael (who I believe is also the owner?), who was able to come out same-day (!!), confirm the solution, and call in the right tech. Then he waited around for an extra hour to make sure the tech did the job correctly, put everything back as it was before (access panel, etc.) and even rinsed down the tub (which had accumulated significant grime during all the troubleshooting). Michael was very informative about how to prevent further issues. And the charges were well below what we anticipated we would need to spend, thanks to their aptitude and careful consideration. Terrible experience with Gateway Sewer & Drain. I paid $542 in labor plus $225 for a camera…read moreinspection -- $767 total -- and they still couldn't resolve the problem or even locate the outdoor access/cleanout line. I hired Tope Plumbing, and within about 15 minutes they located an outdoor cleanout roughly 5 feet from where Gateway had been working. They hydro-flushed the line, cleared the blockage, and got everything flowing again for $305 within 1 hour. Almost $800 with no resolution vs. $305 to Tope to actually find the access point and fix the problem. Stay away from Gateway. Hire them if you want to blow your money on labor and inspection charges for nothing to get done. Keep in mind these guys tried convincing me I needed to excavate 9 feet of dirt to find the outdoor access line, Tope found it in 15 min. Can you imagine if I didn't get a second opinion and spent thousands excavating for nothing? The picture attached shows their "findings." Jim was the one who told me the excavation needed to happen. Good Morning, I let…read morestart with the nightmare I just experience with this company twice. On Wednesday I spoke with Brittany to have a drain tech come to my residence. I received a text message indicating that the tech was on his way at 2:23pm by the name of Brandon Smith. At 3:15p.m. I got another text message indicating that Mike Clavin was on his way. Then I got a telephone call at 4:06pm stating that Mike Clavin was on his way. So, I contacted the office and spoke with Brittany again and she stated that Mike was at my residence working which was incorrect. Then she advised that he was coming from Fenton, Missouri at 3:15pm and could be stuck in traffic. Only to discover Mike was on a lunch break at 3:15pm and was never in route until after 4 p.m. Paige (supervisor) called me on Thursday apologizing for the issues I had on Wednesday and offered a free camera inspections. I informed her that I didn't want the tech from Wednesday to come out to my residence. She indicated that she would give me a call when the tech was on his way. I was asked to remove the post from Yelp. I advised that if the services was finished without issues I would consider taking down my review. But of course I receive another text message indicating that Mike Clavin was on his way. I called and Brandon answered the call and indicated that he didn't know were Paige was. During our conversation Paige is within eye sight of Brandon. Brandon indicates that he would be transferring me to Paige and never did. I disconnected the call at 11:23am. Paige returned my call and indicated that should told Brandon that she was in a meeting and would call me back within 5 minutes. Brandon never call me back to advise me of this information. Paige calls back at 11:42 which is way pass the 5 mins, to inform me that Mike was on his way. I do believe in giving people second chances but come on. At least follow through on what you tell me. Needlessness to say Mr. Kirkwood will not be servicing my residence. Maybe you all will have a better experience.
