We hired Hoffman Concrete for a sidewalk project and paid a deposit of $3,000. The work was left unfinished, and despite numerous attempts over 10 months, we were unable to get the job completed or our deposit refunded. We sent a formal demand letter and ultimately had to pursue small claims court to resolve it. If you're considering this company, get a detailed written contract with a completion timeline and milestone-based payments rather than a large upfront deposit. We wish we'd done more due diligence before paying anything upfront. read more

My daughter's senior graduation is coming up this spring and I need a new back patio poured. I already broke up the back patio and had it hauled away, and then graded the area. That's when I looked for companies that do flatwork. I like the idea of local, family-run companies and found Hoffman Concrete. I also like that their website says they offer "Excellent Customer Service." I haven't had a chance to see that firsthand. I called them on a weekday mid-morning and got their voicemail. I left a message and then later received a message back with a callback number. I've called three more times since then and got voicemail. I'm not sure what's going on around there in the middle of the day, but I am done trying. There are plenty of other places that would be grateful for my business. read more

I have added another picture to this review which shows the amount of driveway that your hardworking men shoveled. Two vehicles were in the drive when the initial snow arrived, same as yesterday's snow. Anybody that does not see $280 or $370 as ridiculous pricing can pay your fees. The responses that I have received from Facebook, from other people you screwed including elderly, validates that I am not wrong. I come from a family run business and am a 30 year nurse. I know you are a family run business and have recommended a number of people to your business because I BELIEVE in family. My father taught me that you never bash a customer, it just makes you look worse. I think you have done that twice to me- here an Yelp. I just want other customers to use caution when using an unethical company. I would also like to say, YOU HAVE AMAZING men working for you. We had a highly disappointing and frustrating experience with Hoffman Flatwork, and if we could, we would rate them at zero stars. We hired them for a paver installation on our patio and around our pool, agreeing to a contract and paying the deposit. Shortly before the project was to start, they presented us with a change order due to an alleged underestimation of the project's scope. This unexpected change order nearly doubled the original cost of the project. Despite multiple visits to our property by their estimator Adam and owner, Mark Hoffman, over a couple of months, they failed to accurately assess the project before materials and equipment were delivered. We dealt primarily with Mark Hoffman and we found him to be very harsh and difficult to communicate with. Mark referred to our yard as "willy wonka" because the grades were not what they expected when they scoped the job. Besides treating the homeowners like customers and apologizing for the initial scope oversight, Mark blamed it all on our general contractor for our backyard. He cut us off when talking with us, seemed very agitated, played the victim, and we feel he really took it out on us. After these interactions with Mark as well as the "change orders" that nearly doubled the original cost of the project that we agreed to, we did not feel comfortable moving forward despite him telling us "you will lose money if you don't go through us." We decided to terminate our agreement, and we asked him to pay for the material that was already delivered with the money we had provided in our deposit, provide lien waivers, and give us back our remaining deposit. Since the project had not started and the only work done was moving their equipment out we felt this was a reasonable ask. It took Mark over two weeks to give us our deposit back and when he did he kept $3,600. We asked him if we could receive that part of the deposit back as well, minus a reasonable $500 or so for an equipment moving fee. Mark was very hostile and blamed everything on our general contractor. He said he lost out on two weeks of work from another job he could have made money on and blamed us for that. However, he was always too busy to answer our calls or texts in a timely manner in those two weeks because he was out on job sites, and he posted pictures of multiple job sites on his Facebook page during those two weeks. It seems he had plenty of work during that time. He made us feel that we were the problem, even though he claimed he was mad at our general contractor. We provided the money for the project when asked, and we were available to Hoffman Flatwork when they needed to discuss something with us. Mark took his anger and frustration with this situation out on us. Acting like that to the customer is completely inappropriate. Hoffman Flatwork cannot be completely blameless in this. They came out multiple times to our property to re-evaluate and reassess the situation before they started the project, so all of this should have been in the initial contract, not as part of a "change order". They brought out equipment and had materials delivered and then decided to provide a "change order" right before they started because they realized they underestimated the project initially. Hoffman Flatwork's lack of professionalism and poor communication have caused us significant inconvenience, and they still have a good chunk of our deposit. This is a review for Mark Hoffman and I'm having a hard time writing it. The reason is because I want to make sure my words do him justice. If you are looking for someone who will go above and beyond, who will answer a million questions, who will come to you with amazing ideas that you hadn't even thought of or thought possible, who will show up EVERY time they say they will, who leaves you not only with something beautifully crafted but also leaves the work area spotless, then look no further than Mark Hoffman. We started with a yard that was a constant hassle of vines, weeds, and overgrowth and ended with something far beyond our expectations. We knew we wanted to create an outdoor living area- somewhere we'd want to be all day, host get togethers, and be super, super low maintenance. But we had no idea how to describe what that would look like to us. Mark came to us with a design that just blew us away- He offered so many ideas and options in a way that totally took away our stress of trying to figure out what to do. Our driveway was installed in June 2018, and we've had several issues with the quality of the work and the company's responsiveness. Strongly suggest avoiding this company if you have other alternatives. The first issues we experienced were quality-related (saw lines not straight and main sections of the driveway different colors, to which there is no fix without tearing up and re-pouring the concrete). Within 2 months, pieces of the exposed aggregate border cracked and popped up, again to which the owner said there was no fix. Last, we paid extra to have Hoffman seal the finished job, but have major, ugly staining on the new concrete. In addition, the crew poured leftover concrete sealer in our yard, killing two large sections of the lawn. We've repeatedly asked the owner to address the issue(s), especially the staining, but continue to get no response, consistent with other reviews. Unacceptable quality and service. Update to 11/9 Hoffman response: This review was posted only after many, many attempts to get Hoffman to address the quality issues with our driveway. Mark simply stops responding. Further, we retained 3% of project total to address broken entry light and aforementioned lawn issues caused by Hoffman's crew. Bought over 11 thousand dollar driveway back patio. Driveway was supose to be 11 feet wide, butts up against my house. They poured it 9 feet wide, now car barely fits and tire goes off edge. Owner is not involved in anyway. No communication and when there's a problem, they ignore it. Dont use companies that dont care about their paying customers. Everyone makes mistakes but how a company handles them speaks volumes. Update, January 28th. They put bricks up the side of the driveway that was short so that the car wont fall off. read more

The work was completed in a timely manner by a quality craftsman. The completed work looks nicer than the original expansion joints. I took the time to read reviews of the company, set up a bid appointment, and meet the owner to discuss our project (new sidewalk, patio, and retaining wall). And They never sent me the bid!
