The store is under new ownership! Great repair shop and skate sharpening. New inventory is coming in weekly.

My 10 year old son is in his second year of playing hockey with SHAW. He started last year as a…read morenew skater and we had an overall good experience, and we'll be back to skate and play with SHAW as he grows older. I was nervous about having my son play hockey, as I had no familiarity with the sport. However, we knew a few families whose kids play with SHAW and the people we talked to and met along the way have been friendly and kind. We appreciate that a lot. The regular youth hockey season starts around September and runs through March. Kids are given 2 practices a week and play games most weekends starting in November. I am not enough of a youth hockey person to know how SHAW's developmental programs stack up against others in the area, but my impression is that they are similar. SHAW runs on volunteers and many of them are very kind and very helpful and very good with kids. Are they professional skills coaches? No. If you want that, you can find it in the Milwaukee area and you will pay for it! I have had a few negative experiences -- mostly dealing with overcompetitiveness. Our coaches occasionally used profanity in the locker room, which I do not appreciate for 9 and 10 year olds. It's unacceptable. Overall, though, our coaches were wonderful and caring people towards the kids, so it is a small part of an overall good experience. I also once witnessed a SHAW coach lose it on a kid (shouting) after a game, in the lobby, with a ton of people around. (This was not our team, it was one of the other teams with slightly older kids.) The kid's mother defended her child and got into it shouting back at the coach and the poor kid ended up crying near the door. This was absolutely terrible. This never should have happened and should never happen again. So sometimes things don't go the way they should go in a youth program and the organization needs to maintain very high standards and enforce discipline in these kinds of situations. As for the cost, hockey is expensive. Perhaps SHAW could reduce their costs a little if they cut back on expenses like the big banquet. It is important that hockey is accessible to as many people as possible. The organization gives a credit to new players after finishing their first season and there are opportunities to earn credits towards ice fees through working Brewers concessions. SHAW also offers try hockey for free days and a special hockey program for children with special needs. We're pleased so far and are sticking around. If you prefer elite hockey you will need to go after a AAA ($$$) team and hope you make the team via tryouts. For my new player, SHAW has been a great place to play.

I was a former employee and recommend shopping online or going elsewhere. The NHL jerseys hanging…read moreon the wall are fake and bought on Chinese wholesaler websites for cheap, then sold to customers for $180. Not a great selection of gear, especially for goalies. There are minimal options of colors in specific gear and sizes. When ordering specific gear through them, expect a week or more wait for arrival of order. You can find a lot of the gear they offer online for similar or cheaper prices with quicker shipping. A majority of the sticks are top of the line (most expensive) and have signs of use from kids "testing" them for extended periods of time in their shooting area. If you use a popular stick specification such as hand, curve, or flex, you most commonly will not find the stick you're looking for. A standard skate sharpening has been raised to $10 and you should only expect a good sharpening from specific employees. In the long run, buying a Sparx or asking a friend to use their Sparx would be more cost effective. Besides the owner and a couple of the full time employees, most of the employees are high schoolers with little knowledge of sizing and information about the gear they are selling. Overall, I do not recommend shopping or working at Hockey Haven.

Please allow me to preface this review by saying the following...if you are looking for a quick…read morereview, this isn't it. The next matter is very simple, it's just in multiple "parts". I state my case according to the following adage, If you haven't done anything wrong, you have NOTHING to worry about. I went to Dunham's on South 27th Street ( in Milwaukee ), to look for a specific firearm for ownership. There is a fair to good selection to choose from. Honestly, there is about a 60% chance you WILL find what you want at this particular Dunham's Sports location. If you want something specific , you will either order the item requested through the store, or order the item online and pass delivery to a retailer/ dealer who has a valid FFL, or do what I did.... keep shopping until you find the one you sought for soooo long, like I did. Tim was the gentleman who assisted me with my purchase. He did a fine job. I wish him the best. I asked Tim if we could look at the item I wanted to purchase. He agreed. It took me about two minutes to decide which firearm to purchase. Then it gets easy. First....You pay for your "Background Check". Then you WAIT! Understand that the State has limited resources, and can't get back to Dunham's right away with a decision. Be patient, that's the State of Wisconsin and that Federal Government, not Dunham's. I went back the next day to pick up my firearm. Tim was there and ready to go. A fellow employee was also on hand to "second" the actual transaction. This is company policy...ROLL WITH IT...and again be patient. Tim presented me with a checklist that had to be completed with the sale, it's a great way to make sure all points are covered with the transaction. One other thing, PLEASE understand that Dunham's Senior Management at their Corporate Offices must also approve the sale of any firearm. This is an extra "layer of security". Tim and I went through every point on the checklist. I'm not going to tell you what's on this list, it would discourage cooperation, but the only point to this is true: "If you have done NOTHING wrong, You have nothing to worry about. The last point was to pay for the item, and be escorted to the door where Tim gave me the paperwork and then the firearm. This guy was GREAT, professional, thorough, and accommodating...HOWEVER, don't even ask for shortcuts, bypasses, or freebies.... Everything was done by the numbers, NO laws were broken. I received GREAT service and purchased a GREAT firearm at a GREAT price. The service was GREAT too. Thanks Tim. Thanks to Dunham's.... Well Done!!!

Even after leaving and waiting outside the store they came out and told us to get off their property or they would call the cops even when we moved to the public sidewalk? Once my Friends Parent came to confront the worker, they denied it but the other employees didn't? And Even a Different Dunham's Employee said, "I see where your child gets it from" Is that what a Dunham's Employee should say? and to the Dunham's Employee you know who you are the situation could have been handle way better than how you and your fellow coworkers handled it.
