Today is August 30th. My first week long vacation this year. We've been on a hiring freeze since last year;I've been doing the job of two HR technology specialists. I had absolutely nothing on my agenda today because it's all about me. I did art in school passionately at the age of 17, but I forgot all about it as life gets to you when you're trying to make a living. At 30 years old I am discovering water colors again, coloring, and jewelry making. 3 of my passions that I've long forgotten about. It's been years since I've been in a hobby lobby. It took me a long time to get my bearings. I was also looking for particular brands and tools that I used 12 years ago. I also wanted to get my mom a coloring book because she's been stressed as well. I perused through almost every single coloring book until I found the perfect one to represent her. I don't know what made loss prevention follow me around my entire time through the store. I am very particular and weigh all of my options when purchasing products thus resulting in me being in the store a lot longer than I anticipated. But hey, I am on a week long vacation, why rush myself. The first vacation I have gotten a chance to take this year as things are not lovely in corporate America. I first noticed LP near me while looking at watercolor pencils. I was looking for a particular brand called Kimberly that my mother used to use when I was younger. I thought it was my imagination and paid it no mind. It was after all my day right? I made my way all around the store. Mind you this is the first time I've been in a hobby lobby in several years. The loss prevention rep continued to follow me but I didn't care because I was going to go home and paint with my new watercolors. I remembered that I wanted silver necklace chains and since I had nothing else planned. Why not walk all around the store looking for them. That's when I saw him again, but this time he was directly in front of me. In the middle of the aisle looking at those items for sell on the islands. He was clearly just looking for me. Since we're looking at each other why not ask him if he's familiar with the store. There's no harm asking a stranger, even less in asking a " fellow customer". Hey maybe I'll get lucky and he's a hobbyist like myself and knows where it is. I asked him if he knew where the necklaces were because I was lost in here. He was a bit stunned, told me he didn't know. I said no worries I'm just lost and asking anyone right now. I found them! They happened to not be far away from him coincidentally. I went to peruse through the necklaces for two silver chains to put charms on that I had at home. All the while making my selections is this man's eyes boring into the back of my head. It turns out that they're locked up. I had to look for someone to help me. Since he didn't work here (sarcasm) I had to find someone else. I walked past him. I found a young lady who helped & walked me to the front with them. I was finally ready to check out because I checked everything off of my wish list. I spent a total of $102 dollars. I don't skimp on myself or my hobbies. I love creating art. I will never bat an eyelash at what I spend investing in myself. I never purchased a box of prismacolors before as I was too young to afford those things back then. They were so coveted when I was in school. I so desperately wanted them and was happy that now as a 30 year old adult I could treat myself. That's when I saw him walk up next to me while I was checking out. He spoke to the manager Elsa. I finally received confirmation that he was following me. He lost me because he didn't see me checking out. We locked eyes as I was paying for my items. He was right in front of my thrice again. I was livid. But I didn't show it. I was happy remember? As I waited in the front for them to bring the prismacolors from the back. I thought to myself, you just gave this store $102 dollars of your hard earned money. Hard earned money that I spent 12 hours on the clock yesterday with no overtime to ensure my clients were set before I left out of the office for a week. So I asked for a refund. I told Elsa why, which was because the LP gentleman made me uncomfortable. He followed me throughout the store. Elsa said sure this young lady can help you. She shooed me back to the cashier who just checked me out. Elsa you're an adult, I am an adult. I felt very dismissed by This is a poor reflection of the company culture and leadership at this hobby lobby location. I am very well aware of unconscious bias as an HR professional. We all have it. However, a well trained employee will understand that biases have no place at work. Please assign your loss prevention more training. I have deep pockets and live in the neighborhood. I could have visited this store often but sadly I am not welcome here. read more

Accidentally spilled my drink in the fabric department. I picked up the cup but couldn't find the lid, was also in shock from the spill that I immediately went to ask for help. I offered to clean it up and the young latina girl with glasses and black hair met me with attitude. I asked for paper towels, etc, she gave me a nasty look and said "No... I WILL clean it".... if its policy for employees to clean spills just say that. Obviously hearing her annoyance, I asked again and was met with a disgusting tone and nasty face. I walk away since I obviously cannot help just for her to quite literally yell out loud, "YOU COULDN'T EVEN PICK UP THE LID?!"... Are you kidding me? You're gonna sit there and complain about the spill but not even let me clean it up or AT LEAST ask me to grab it? Make it make sense. Either suck it up and do your job or let ME clean it. Unfortunately I didn't get the girl's name. And after the spill and cleaning happened, I continued to hear her talk ill about me to her coworkers. read more

Absolute worst customer service at custom framing department for pictures I've ever experienced. I've been using this Hobby Lobby location well over 20 years for custom framing needs. I visited the store on October 9th about 5:15 PM and no one was in the framing department. I waited 10 minutes and still no employee in the area so I found a young lady and asked if anyone was working in the framing area and she said she would find someone. About five minutes later an announcement was made on the intercom system for help in the framing area. Finally about ten minutes later an employee I've never seen before with an attitude as if I woke her up from a nap showed up wanting to know what I needed. No reason to be subjected to this kind of treatment. Time to move on and give someone else my business. read more

Disappointed with the framing department at Hobby Lobby. First time ever using them. I usually go to Michaels. The problems I had were that you are not provided with guidance on what would look best when you decide to do a customize frame so seeing it in real time is out. The department did not meet its own deadline and I had to call to inquire about it on my own when it over 6 days with no call at all. When I did pick it up after asking about it at the store, there was still work needed to complete the project. This was a disappointing experience that will cost this company future business with me and maybe some of my family and friends. read more

Love hobby lobby. So many options and they have something for every possible occasion! Also great projects for home decor.

Worst customer service and on days of busy hours, long lines form. New lines open and they are adamant about accepting customers who are currently next in line, not conveniently at the end of the line. You would think it would be easy if you're at the end of the line, you can just maneuver to the new line. But they refuse to service you because you were not "next". Ridiculous. Hate going to this location, but sadly it's my local hobby lobby that's the closest. read more

This location is not in a great spot. It looks run down on the outside and so does the whole parking lot it is located in. Love Hobby Lobby and that they always have great deals on picture frames and holiday decor. Check out took awhile but I think it was the cashier. HOBBY LOBBY 1960 at Jones Rd in Houston TX.....This store's framing department is awful!!! I took a watercolor I did of my Great granddaughter to have framed and matted on June 4th. It was supposed to be ready on June 18th. I called them to see if it was ready on June 18th and they said "Oh sorry we didn't order the matting you picked out". This lady I talked to (later found out she was the one that orders) said sorry let me take a look and see if I can find something that matches, I will call you if I don't! No Call so on June 21st I go back to the store and no one knows anything about my order but they will order it again (seriously?) I asked for the manager of the department at this point and she said "we will not charge for the matting since it was our fault". So this afternoon (June 28th) I get a call that it is ready so I go to the store about 6:45 this evening to pick it up.....guess what? The framing department is closed! I am just a bit perturbed to say the least! I see someone sweeping the floor so I asked him and he did find my order back in the dark room. I took to front to pay and remember...they weren't charging me for the matting! There was an invoice that was stapled to the last invoice with the matting refunded and signed by the framing dept manager. The cashier and the "store manager" made me pay the full price even though there was an invoice approved and initialed by the framing manager! This man...the manager was ugly and convinced I was trying to pull a fast one on them! I paid the full amount but I am not through with them. I am going straight to BBB! This so called manager was an ugly dude!!!DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING TO THEM! I have spent hundreds of dollars in this framing department but they and the entire store has gone nuts. For some reason Hobby Lobby seems to be staffed with retired grandmothers or Hispanic teenagers. In light of that mix, it's obviously a credit to the company that the staff is usually friendly and helpful. The stores are clean, decently organized and prices seem to be good. There's a bit of an odd mix of hobby stuff and home decor but it seems to work for them. It's always interesting to wander through the extensive artificial plants and plant parts - there are flowers there that look authentic but you know that nature never raised a plant with those colors! If you are a guy looking to green up his living environment, but your thumb is green because of avocado dip, they have some nice authentic-looking artificial plants that look great. Their picture framing service is good, but don't bring anything that is unusual or challenging. If you do it yourself, they've got lots of matts and frames and stuff. There's lots of other stuff that I haven't and never will explore. I'll leave the needlework, beading, clothing blaze, scrap booking and other high-estrogen activities to others, but when I was in there with an ex-girlfriend I obtained a pinata and a model of the starship Enterprise while she loaded up on chrome t-shirt decor. Likely explains the "ex" part. Anyway, good place to go for their core hobby stuff and their holiday selection is usually good too. read more

I usually go here to buy yarn, especially "Caron- Simply Soft" because they have a large selection obviously, but here it's about $2 more than Walmart! And the only reason I'd pay more at this store is if the color is not available at Walmart. Another thing that's annoying is how they are still 'ringing up' customers by entering the prices... ahhh this is 2011! And when you have an item that might possibly be on sale, they have to look through their flyer of all the items on sale to see if it's on there. A good tip a cashier gave me is that if something you want is not on sale, check back in the next two weeks. Everything in the store is basically on sale in rotations. Useful for a guy who's first talent was anything art. Paint supplies are fair concerning price and options. Canvases aren't plenty here, so any young Dali's would have to do more with less shopping here. Paint pens run plenty and of fine quality for when i go to the skate park & draw something on thier wall [legally] prior to embarassing myself on my skateboard. Those are the things i go for, my wife loves there nifty assortment of decor art that are both wall accessible and cost efficient. When i was in high school i had my homecoming garb made with the materials inside, and once in a while my Mom would buy some thread and sewing supplies to right the fashionably wrong. After having shopped at this location for many years, I will not be back. No one is ever available to help if you have a question. The employees that are out on the floor are always rushing passed without ever greeting you or asking if you need help. However, I'll tell you who WILL ask repeatedly if you need help - the store manager. He will then proceed to stalk you around the store like a dog in heat. I don't know if he thinks I'm a shoplifter (I'm not) or if he's just obsessed with me. I used to be a professional model, so I am considered an attractive woman. It makes me EXTREMELY uncomfortable to be followed around by that man. I will be avoiding Hobby Lobby like the plague. Can I have a choice of 1/2 star? I have been going to Hobby Lobby for many years. Gradually it has gotten bad!! Nope, you cannot FIND any blue vests walking around to assist you. I finally found them clustered together, gossiping. As for their frames, forget about it. I wanted a 10x13 frame. A couple of weeks ago, on a Monday morning, I went to look at 10x13 frames. There were about 4-5 there and every one of them was damaged. So I asked the person there when a new shipment was coming in. He said that afternoon. I went back that Thursday and the same 4-5 damaged frames were there. So I called the following Monday afternoon and asked if they got a shipment of 10x13 frames. The woman there said she didn't know. So I called back a couple of days later. Asked if they got any new 10x13 frames. She said she didn't know because she didn't place the order. Asked what style I was looking for. I said I hadn't decided and explained that the only ones they had were all damaged. She told me to go to another Hobby Lobby! How hard is it to get nondamaged 10x13 frames? She suggested I come up after Monday afternoon to see. I do not have time to keep running up to Hobby Lobby to see if frames got ordered. So I went to Michaels. Sure, I have to drive alittle further. But was I so surprised! Not only did they have plenty of NONDAMAGED frames, but I was asked by, not 1, but 2 different employees if there was anything they could help me find. I was shocked! Customer service?! According to Hobby Lobby, that died a long time ago. Oh and forget about contacting Hobby Lobby corporate. They totally do not respond. read more

I love Hobby Lobby, their quality and quantity of merchandise is great compared to other hobby stores! I can usually find an employee for service. My complaint is returns.I brought a six container bottles of paint, not realizing if I needed to return them,they would all have to be returned intact! I cut the bottles out the plastic, and decided I didn't like the colors. I couldn't return the paint because I had cut them loose from the packaging, which didn't make sense, because when I bought the paint,there were actually loose bottles of the same paint with the same plastic around single bottles! This makes me believe someone else returned the same merchandise and got their refund/credit! I didn't. read more

I framed both of my diplomas at their framing department and the genius who handled my frames put them in front of each other where the back screws of the first frame scratched the front of the second frame and now they are not taking responsibility for what they did!!!
