But I didn't have to wander much because two well-informed customer service reps were able to direct me. I was looking for fabric to cover my dining room chairs (small DIY project). I described the color and texture of the fabric I was envisioning, and was led exactly to the right bolts of cloth to choose from. One woman worked the downstairs and the other upstairs. I got just what I wanted, quickly. A much better experience than the chain stores for fabric which are quick but without the rich variety of choices found here. Downfall is simply that Waynesville is likely a bit out of the way for many. But plan ahead and make a day of it by visiting the many antique and decor shops in town. Since it was a 40 minute drive for me, I did call ahead to make sure they were open (I'm learning, post pandemic, not to trust what's shown on websites).

They have gone way above and beyond in helping me select fabric for suitable usage. One fabric I picked for outdoor furniture wasn't going to hold up well, and they told me so. They then helped to find a comparable fabric that would stand the test of time. And it has! Their vast selections are high quality and of patterns and types that you can't find at other fabric stores. Prices are fair for your selections, whether high-end or as basic as denim. And they HAVE given me recommendations for quality seamstresses who can make sure their beautiful fabrics turn out as you would expect. The only time I submit ratings for companies on this site is when they go above and beyond expectations, and The Fabric Shack is one of them!

The owner, Dawn (a charming and hospitable lady who told me exactly where to find everything I asked about) explained that they didn't care to do so, and the store has been Fourman's Variety for quite some time. And variety is what you will find in this very large and thoughtfully arranged shop. Everything from spices and kitchenware, puzzles and games for all ages, school supplies and stationery, to greeting cards, gift wrap, housewares, pool supplies, pet needs, seasonal decor, giftable items, and a full aisle of candy with many nostalgic classics. PLUS a whole room of fabrics and sewing accessories, and a wall or two of crafting supplies. And....tons of used books for sale! Prices were quite reasonable throughout. Store is open six days a week, parking on the street. I am thrilled to have found this great variety store. Honestly, do you really want to spend your money at Dollar General or Walmart? I wanted my chair & a half reupholster, because I love it so much. They told me it was a 10 months waiting list. We could pick up materials, put down down-payment then just wait. 8 months later they gave me a call, I was ecstatic! 2 months earlier than expected. They came and pick up my chair & pillows. We chose to have them pickup and drop-off, cuz we don't have a truck or anyway to do it ourselves. If you do, you can do that also. I am pretty sure it took only about 7-10 days (I had this done last year, 2025), the result is amazing! I love it! Now, I'm going to find something else to reupholster
