As the store only carries one or two copies of every individual item they have, you can never really be "sure" they're going to have what you have in mind. I'd never come here if I'm looking for a very specific and exact item. Instead, the fun of HomeGoods is that everything is so unique. Having one copy of everything frees of way more space to have way more variety. You can get faux plants, dinnerware and kitchen supplies, kid's decor, pet supplies, mugs and other drinkware, furniture, gigantic rugs, gourmet pre-packaged treats, pillows and blankets and other soft bedding, mirrors, wall art, and seasonal stuff. Prices aren't particularly cheap. I'd say they're decently mid-range for home decor stores like this unless you catch things on clearance. When they're clearancing out items, you can get some *really* nice deals. Because of the "one copy of items" thing, the store can regularly feel pretty cluttered - and you should make sure that your potential item isn't damaged or anything before purchase. Expect to spend a freakishly long amount of time in this moderately-sized store just because there's *so* much stuff to look at on every shelf. Items are organized by area/use, though, so if you're only looking for blankets, all blanket options will be in the same area (same with mugs, journals, etc.) Staff is generally decently friendly. Check-out can be a bit slow (mostly because of all of the breakable items) depending on what time of day you come.

I love the duology of these two stores! Anything you find at one store you can then take over to the other store to purchase, so you can browse both stores before making your final purchase! The World's Window contains products from all over the world that they have sourced globally. Meanwhile, The Cob Mercantile showcases products from local Iowan artisans! I love the dichotomy of the local and global goods and it's such a fun way to organize the two stores. We entered through The Cob Mercantile and was greeted with the friendly shop owner, who chatted to us about what the store contained and told us about World's Window too. From there, we went off shopping through all the different displays, nooks, and crannies in both stores that highlighted different goodies from different artisans throughout. There are SO many great options and variety here for yourself and gift options for all your loved ones as well! I made many mental notes on great gift options for so many of my loved ones and will definitely be back soon! The pricing is all reasonable and I love nothing more than being able to shop small! Directions and Hours: This store is ONLY OPEN the first Thursday through Saturday of every month. The first day needs to fall before the Thursday of that week. (For example, if April started on Friday, the store wouldn't be open until the proceeding week. If April started on Monday, it would be open that week). The store is located BEHIND Simpson's Furniture on Main Street. It's a bit tricky to find, but you'll end up seeing a tiny sign on the property. Turn onto E 23rd street, and even when it turns into gravel, KEEP GOING. Go until the gravel "ends" then turn right. You'll quickly see Hatchlings and Hen's signage. The store itself is down the driveway. Long Version: This is a neat, home-run type of store. As far as I can tell, it seems to be a small shop in a workshop. The directions above will help you find it. The area feels like shopping a garage sale - but in a cute and fun type of way. No bathrooms or anything because of that. Hatchlings and Hens sells a variety of neat, repurposed and vintage-esque type of items. It looks like a lot of items were repainted or cleaned up in order to be sold, and the owner does a surprising job of finding fantastic sets. For example, there was a kitchen table with a matching 4 chairs available for purchase (only $175 for the set! I would have bought it if I needed a kitchen set). There were also other sets like matching bird decor or awesome wall art. There was some industrial-type of furniture and whatnot too - as well as industrial salvage that might help you out if you were looking to do some DIY for yourself. I didn't end up purchasing anything today, but I plan on coming back in the future. The owner was super friendly, and I really did fall in love with a coupe things that I can't quite think of a place for at the moment. Nice dresses were $15 to $25. Pants were in the $15 range. Definitely affordable. Some modern clothing/decor, but there's a noticeable amount of basics/classic-style stuff too. (Plain black pants, plain jeans, plain white bins, etc.) Store has purses, men's, children's, women's, plus clothing. Blankets and rugs. Bedding. Bathroom decor. Wall decor. Children's toys. Workout gear. Fragrances. Furniture including chairs/ottomans. Laundry room supplies. Lots of one-copy items - especially in the decor section. TJ Maxx tends to have a couple copies of each home decor item, but here at Ross, it's mostly a single-copy item in both the clothing and the decor sections. Everything was a nightmare of mess when I came, though. I'm not holding it against them as their parking lot was full and I'm sure they're still dealing with the novelty of being new. Noticeably long line waiting to check-out. Again, possibly due to the grand opening. Walked by a lot of staff and was never greeted. Again, possibly staff is just stressed with the extra-busy days. Lots of shelves were empty, but again, grand opening. I'll likely re-review when Ross has been around for awhile and the novelty has worn off. Every Tuesday is 10% off for people 55 and older.
