Let me be honest, I did not want to come here, but after striking out on many occasions at nearby stores I caved and came here. I have avoided coming here for years, as a matter of fact, any location anywhere. I don't agree with some of their policies and it is their right to conduct their workplace how they will, just as it is my right to shop where I want. With that out of the way, let's talk about this experience. I had been looking for a specific item for the past few weeks. You know how you get an item in your head, you know it exists, but you just cannot find it anywhere you look. That was me recently. I knew what I wanted/needed, but could not for the life of me locate it anywhere. With my head hanging low, I entered this facility. Walking in here is like walking into a different world, craft world that is. This is like a mega store for crafting needs. I mean, how in the world are there that many crafting supplies that you need this big of a layout? Having never been in one of these before and not knowing where anything might be located I started wandering. And wander I did. My first line of attack was just to walk the center aisle and glance down every aisle as I passed. That did not work, this place is like a maze without a map. At one point I felt like I was Pac-Man chasing the ghosts, only the ghosts were associates that were working here. Each time I saw one they would run away like I had eaten the big pellet. So much for getting help here to ask where an item might be. My next line of attack, and this took forever, was to go up and down each and every aisle until I found my item. Did it work, yes, did it take forever, definitely, did I have any assistance, no. Having found my one item I ended up making a b-line to where I thought the front of the store was. I stood in line to wait my turn to pay and started noticing the Christianity closing in on me, that and the basic signs on the walls. The one and only time I had an interaction with an associate in here was at the cash register. It was as if the employee was brainwashed and on autopilot. No affect or personality. Went in for paint but was drawn to a 4-way display of wall art with a roughly 5x8 sign saying 50% off of all wall decor. This was a display of anime and Pokémon art and I was real interested I looked at the price tags to see how much they were. I ended up grabbing 4 hanging wooden Pokémon's signs for $9.99 and a large Wall scroll for $15.99. At the register there was no way of knowing what the cashier was putting in for the price since they do not use a upc scanner but instead manually type it all in. I did manage to notice that a blank white shirt that I picked up she put in at $4.45 meanwhile they have a large banner above all the blank shirts advertising $2.14. When I said something, I was told well it's a up charge because its bigger then a large. Apparently anyone not skinny has to pay double? I just let that one go and my total came to $123.33 and I paid. Now I have a habit of looking at my receipt and seeing how much I saved especially since I picked up 5 pieces of hanging wall art for 50% off or so I thought. The cashier had typed all the wall art as GIFT so it was not eligible. So I went back in to get this corrected. The cashier then told me well its a gift not wall art. My response was well you have the whole 4 way display all of similar items signed at 50% off so why don't I get the discount. Long story short the the one manage was asked and she just said its a gift so full price and went back to doing whatever she was doing. I want to note this manager looked real young and real pissed off like she hated her life and everyone around and she acted extremely rude from the start. So another manager was called in they then had me walk all the way back threw the store to the display. Once again I said look BIG SIGN 50% OFF WALL DECOR all items on the rack were pokemon and anime all similar items. She kept saying well they are not included because they are gifts. So what they did was put a large general 50% ALL wall decore on a display that only had 4 items that were included the other 10 items were considered gifts and not included. She esentially said that well its not my fault we do what the company wants and thats it I will not do anything for you sorry. Meanwhile she was trying to pull up the items on her phone and couldnt saying that they were to new. She also said that gifts never go on sale and showed me the tag were gift is written smaller then the price about two spaces down. Looks like they place it small enough and low enough that the average person will see the price which is in larger bold print and never see that what they have displayed as wall decor etc. is in fact a gift or some other promo item not covered by the sale we think we are getting. So talking to this manager did nothing so she had me follow her threw the store again then told me to wait as she called another manager and walked away leaving me standing and waiting. Now you would think that we might get somewhere well we didnt the new manager came over said its a gift I cant and wont do anything for you. Corprate tells us were to place the sings and the product so we have no control over anything and those are gifts not wall art etc. My response was this is a real bad way of doing business and real shady so I dont want any of the stuff I bought and I want a refund. All he said was that's fine register 1 can help you and walked away. After this I was just a bit annoyed to say the least so now I got to walk up front again and wait in line again. Then the cashier proceeds to take every item check every item with the receipt even though I never left the store and have been folowing a manager around for the past 30 minutes. Finnially after scrutnizing everything in the first bag she just calls the rude manager from the begining over for her numbers to aprove it. Guess what this manager was still as unpleasant as the first time and just made me feel completly unwelcome. Now with all that said I have wasted a hour in the store left with nothing I went for and a real bad taste in my mouth. If your store needs to draw sales with big discount signs so you pick up stuff then they type it in by hand as a gift so you never see that the item you believe to be on sale is not with most never knowing or noticing. Then its not a business that's worth shopping at. This is a very dirty and shady way of getting money out of your shoppers. I will never shop here again I will stick with Amazon, Walmart, or Michaels for my craft supplies these store at least show you a price as you are being rang up also there price tags are placed so you know what is on sale and not. They don't place sale signs for a few items in a way that it clearly is making you believe all the items behind the sign are included. read more

I had been debating writing this, but eventually felt my experience should be known. We drove over an hour to get to this store on Dec 22nd. We arrived at 7:50 pm. When we walked in, there was an very rad announcement that the store was closing in 10 minutes. I was pretty surprised. Most stores are open to at least 9 the week of Christmas... I had over 10 items that needed frames for presents. So I went back and was going to get as many as possible. When I got there, I started to pick out frames. Within a minute of being there, an older lady came up and said, "You need to take your purchases up front and pay for them, we are closing now. " I said "Really? You're closing early the week of Christmas?!?" And then... She said "It's the Christian thing to do. Please go up front now." Now I have worked in many retail positions over the years, and I had NEVER treated a customer like that. If you have someone willing to spend a few hundred dollars, you stay open a little later. The reason why I gave this place 2 stars, is because the girl who rang us up apologized for the way people were acting. Even with the manager standing, arms crossed, and scowling near us, she still took the time to be nice. read more

Please make this go viral! Customer service is deplorable almost everywhere any more! After 20+ years on the other side of the counter working in retail, nothing upsets me more than corporate disregard for customers, grinch-focused payroll cuts to preserve the bottom line, especially, one of THE BUSIEST weeks of the year! Just experienced this at the Hobby Lobby in Altoona, PA! There were approximately 13 customers waiting in line and the cashier did not even look up at the customer in front of her, let alone around her. The cashier finally calls for backup after 5 minutes. Silence! Not one cashier or manager responds. I try to help the associate and go to ask the manager (Dan) if there are available cashiers to help. He says he will get help. I go back to the line with my mom and no one responds or comes to help the cashier. After about 3 minutes, I go find the manager again. Dan is standing in the Christmas decor area by the trees with another manager. I share that no one has responded and that customers in one are getting upset. He then proceeds to tell me it's none of my business. I guess my business is not their business?! I go back to the line with my family and no cashier had arrived?! Finally, about a minute later, one comes forward. The cashier even told the cashier she was scared no one was coming to help her. Definitely a need for that store to refocus its priority and culture in the customer...and will just leave it at that! This rating is not even worth 1 star! read more

This place has everything you need. A bit on the pricey side, maybe even a bit more than Michael's. i rate it a 2 star because i waited in line to check out for 25 min. There were only 2 registers open on a busy Sat. afternoon. everything has to be keyed in rather than scanned( which is more efficent). read more
