Wow. Order a full size steak cheesesteak (with provolone, peppers, and onions) and it was HUGE. It is something you can totally split with another person! I have driven by this restaurant so many times and finally decided to check it out. I placed my order online and it was super simple to do. After I placed my order, it had given me a 30-35 minute wait time but it was actually way shorter than that. I got a text saying my order was ready for pick up 10 minutes after I placed the order! The hoagie itself was delicious. The steak did have a peppery flavor but wasn't overpowering. I want to come back to try other items!
Looks like family run. We ordered the Salad and a $22 Cheesesteak. It was mainly a lot of guys there because we love this kind of stuff. First of all the salad was really good as it was a huge portion with so many different meats on it. Blew me away. My work partner ordered the cheesesteak. At first one I saw it I thought, it was kind of small for $22 until he told me the other half was in a bag for him to take home later (8" roll small vs 16" roll - large fyi) ! Cheesesteak he said was decent and I told him the bread was probably really good since they use Amarosa rolls from Philly. Although I prefer more of the meat to be chopped smaller, like what I'm used to, this was a solid contender! Nice to support small businesses!
Definitely one of the top sub shops in Central Ohio! They use Dietz and Watson meats ..... the owner has been using them, from what I understand, for decades! Service was excellent! When you get a sub from this establishment, you don't worry about not getting enough quality meat on your sub ! The garnish and the seasoning that I got on mine was just fantastic! They also have old time pickle barrels, or you can even get a hot and spicy pickle . We did also order fresh cut fries, which were cooked perfectly. You also buy meats and cheeses per pound there. There is also a nice indoor seating and area everything was very clean looking from restrooms to eating area and counter. This is the type of shop that I look for when eating out ! PS look for specials... I took advantage of one that was taped on the front door. It was a Italian sub that had extra items on it like prosciutto.
A slight disclaimer that because I am pregnant most of the menu is off limits to me. Having said that I love a good meatball sandwich so thankfully I was able to find something to get excited about. The menu is pretty typical for a sandwich shop although a bit more pricey. I ended up getting the large meatball sub which costs a steep $19.50. For some reason I was not expecting two giant sandwiches. My husband got the large veggie and cheese and liked it, but shared that because it was so big, the bread/veggie/cheese dispersion was a bit off and it was hard to get a bite with everything. The meatball sub was really good but the sauce could have been more flavorful. Tons of juicy meatballs and the bread is delicious. The size of the subs makes up for the price but the taste didn't quite live up to my expectations. Although I am definitely going to come back in a few months to try some of the other options and see what the hype is all about!
I''m here at lunch and it's busy... really busy. Hot sandwiches are taking longer than cold; my small Italian Hoagie took four minutes. Plenty of sandwich!
These sandwiches are STUFFED! I ordered the famous Italian and it did not disappoint. This thing was stuffed to the max with meats and cheese. I like my sandwiches with a bit of a bite to it so I recommend ordering the vinegar separately (otherwise it's an oil/vinegar mix that I found to be heavier on the oil). May seem pricy but the ingredients are high quality and the half size was big enough to share for lunch. The owner was super nice to talk to and I can't wait to come back to try the cheesesteak!
If you want a true Philly Cheesesteak, look no further than Hoagie City north of the circle at Main Street & Cemetery Road in Hilliard. The owner, Bob, gets his ingredients from Philly, grew up in South Philly, and had a deli in Philly- so he's a little familiar with the real deal deli! It was our first visit so we had a great original cheesesteak with cheese whiz, peppers & onions and a side of cheese fries. Both were excellent and just like what we've had in Philly. The menu is broad and the deli case is full of great meats & cheeses. Stop by & show Bob some Central Ohio Love!!
What a gem. I had a scrumptious cheeseburger and Bill had a mammothly delicious Ruben. The menu, extensive with all things deli including barrels of pickles and scrapple. I even got a sample of the liverwurst with the natural casing. Owner and staff are super friendly. We'll definitely be back.
If you know Hilliard, you know this place is constantly being bought out by a new owner- it was usually froyo shops but hoagie city is determined to stay! & I am so glad because this place is AMAZING! We walked in to some of the best hospitality I've received in a while. I got a bologna sandwich add onion and Swiss cheese and omg it was amazing! Not as good as an Otie baloney but still the bomb!!! My sister got a half size Italian hoagie and that sucker was massive and full of flavor! My nephew got a Philly cheesesteak hoagie and he said it was delicious. The pickle was a 4/10- it just didn't hold enough flavor. The parking here is pretty small but you really don't have an issue as it's not too busy most of the time. It's located right off of a roundabout on Main st.
I have been here a few times for takeout and it's always been good but this steak was great. Meat was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Cheese was mixed in nicely. Onions were chopped to my liking. The bread might've been the best part, fresh .
A real touch of Philly right here in Columbus. The sandwiches are huge and packed with goodness. A "half" hoagie could feed two people. The cheesesteak was honestly not my favorite. Definitely needed more cheese for me, so would suggest ordering extra cheese if you want the cheese/meat ratio more equal. The cold sandwiches are where they shine. Deli meat is fresh sliced and Amoroso rolls are delicious. Tons of varieties of chips and fresh deli barrel pickles to make it a feast.
Let me preface this review by stating that I LOVE hoagies/subs. But the rumor mill was turning that this official Philadelphia owned Deli was bringing in amarosa rolls for their cheese steaks. So, being a foodie I had to give it a try. I got the Philly for take out lunch and needless to say it was amazing. The meat, the veggies, and the provolone ("witout as they say") were all so fresh and delicious. The roll itself was light and almost airy but very fresh. I love supporting local and can't wait to try more sandwiches. Check this place out.
Hoagie city makes HUGE sandwiches. But perhaps too big for their own good. The inside of the restaurant isn't much to write home about, although interestingly they also sell meats and cheese by the pound in addition to making sandwiches. The menu is fairly limited, with mostly cold sandwiches and a couple hot options. The most popular cold sandwich is the Italian and the most popular cold sandwich is the cheesesteak. I ordered the Italian and a bag of chips, no drink. They offer half (8") or full (16") sizes, and I opted for the half. The half sandwich and a bag of chips was $14. The sandwich was absolutely massive, especially for it being the half size. There was so much meat and toppings on the sandwich the hoagie wouldn't even remotely close in order to take a bite, which led me to eating it open faced like a slice of pizza. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure some people love a massive sandwich like this, but the whole point of a sandwich in my mind is to be able to eat it as intended, with the bread on either side and toppings in the middle. Since I was attempting to eat it open faced, it also became extremely messy and the mayo and oil along with other toppings was displaced everywhere. I eventually took off some of the meat to be able to eat it normally, but then the excess mayo caused all of the insides to slide out all over the place. That said, the meat and cheese tasted good, appeared to be high quality, and definitely freshly sliced. I realize I'm the minority here, and can understand why people like the sandwiches but it was just too messy for me. read more
After hearing and reading about real "Philly cheesesteak", we decided to try this place for lunch. We ordered the cheesesteak with cheese whiz, onions, and pepper, the "mini" plain cheesesteak, and the half pastrami. We went before the lunch rush hour - the young lady behind the register was helpful with her recommendations, and overall, the service was quick. First impression - it's a lot of food. A half hoagie alone can feed two grown adults. All the hoagies were filled generously, and the ingredients were fresh. Having tried Pat's and Geno's many times in Philadelphia, we were not really impressed by the cheesesteak. It was good, but not great. I felt that the ratio of the meat to cheese could have been more even. Again, not a bad cheesesteak (and certainly better than any of the other chain sub shops in town). The unlikely star of our lunch though, was the pastrami - easily the best we have had outside of Katz in NYC. I would go back to Hoagie City just for this sub alone the next time. I will certainly be back here if I find myself on this side of town to try some of the other subs. read more

The wait was ridiculously long (people that came in after me, with larger orders than mine, left before me) and the flavors weren't what they used to be. Makes me wonder if this was the case because the owner wasn't around this time. read more

Seems like a great place to grab a quick sandwich/sub but the wait is no joke. Took about 20 minutes to send out a corned beef special and a half Philly sub. The poor guy that ordered before us received his singular sandwich after our food was sent out. There is a lack of structure internally when handling multiple orders for customers. The quality was up to par and the quantity is astronomical. The corned beef special is too big to eat! If you enjoy leftovers this is definitely the place to be. Overall, I would recommend giving this place a try if you have some extra time. read more

Great little sandwich shoppe. We ordered a Club, a Turkey, a hot Pastrami and a small shrimp macaroni salad. The food is very good and filling. It seems a bit pricey but they packed a ton of meat on the subs. Very good. I'll definitely be going back again soon. read more

Was out and about today and dropped in this place. The owner is Bob and he is off the chart with information, he gave me a ton of info on the history behind his business. Wish I would have had more time. On to the food, I of course ordered the Philly Cheesesteak. I got it with onions and mushrooms and cheese whiz. It was cooked perfectly but had a little too much pepper on it. Otherwise you get WAY more meat on it than any other place in town. The fresh Amorosa rolls were a major plus. I will definitely go back to check out more options. Great place!!!! read more

I had a fantastic experience with Hoagie City. When I first looked at the menu I was skeptical due to the prices, but that was before I saw just how big the serving sizes were. I ordered a half sized Italian hoagie was it was about as long as my forearm. I was super impressed and definitely will be coming back again. The service was very quick and efficient, and there was little to no wait time at all. Hoagie city has a great vibe all around and I will definitely be going back. read more

Live 30 mins away but was in the area since decided to check out Hoagie City Hilliard to see what all the online chatter was about. Born and semi- raised on the East Coast and can say these subs/hoagies are legit. 8" (domestic) ham & american cheese on a wonderful fresh Italian roll. Love it most because the ham isn't smoked, and easily enough for two to share. Probably could feed 4-5 on the 16". Takeout tip: ask for the oil/vinegar dressing on the side so the bread doesn't get soggy. read more

This place is a hidden gem if you want a good hoagie around Columbus. This is the next best thing to heading to Philly for a steak and cheese - and even Philly shops would struggle to beat this place. Today we had steak and cheese hoagies with peppers, onions, cheese wiz, and provolone. Hands down the best hoagie I've had in a decade or more. We also shared a hot and zesty pickle which was spicy but awesome and some chips. The half hoagies run around $10-11 and are eight inches in length. I ordered a full, 16" and it was way too much for me to eat. However, it worked out because I have a lunch hoagie for tomorrow. Next up will be the Italian with peppers. I would have taken photos of the food but there are already photos of their steak and cheese and the smell over powered my willpower. read more

Every time I order there is a reason why they can't make my order. Last week they claimed they were not making hot food. I asked for my order to be cancelled after I was texted by the store. No refund has been issued, they don't answer the phone and when I texted back the number that texted me from the store that I didn't get a refund I got no response but they read the message (don't use an iPhone if you don't want people to know you are ignoring them). I have only successfully got food from them once and it was okay at best. They compensate for a lack of included toppings and flavor with a ton of meat which I guess is great for most on the American Diet but some of us want to taste more than meat and would gladly give some of it up for flavor. In my experience this is a poorly run business that doesn't care about the customer experience. read more

The Italian Hoagie was loaded with meats, cheese, and veggies -- it makes for a big bite! The half size is 8 in which we found to be big enough to share for lunch. I recommend adding vinegar separately to help cut thru all the richness from the meat (the oil/vinegar mix was a little too oily for me). I'll be trying the cheesesteak next time! read more
