My Mom and I were on the run to find Auntie Lui's peanuts for my brother. Luckily, this Hoa Binh Supermarket had 12 bags left on the shelf. Of course, I bought them all. I had a feeling they may no longer carry this peanut brand in the future. Not sure why though... Auntie Lui's is a good brand. Anyway, other than our peanut run, we normally don't shop here. It's like one of those... let's check and see if they carry the item kinda thing. My parents used to shop here back in the 1980's and 1990's so they have been around. It's an older supermarket... they could get a facelift on the place. Give them a try when you're in the Montclair or Pomona area. I normally don't leave negative reviews, but this experience was so bad that I feel I need to share it. The staff were not friendly at all, especially a young male employee who appeared to be around his mid-20s. He was extremely rude and disrespectful toward my family, which made the visit very uncomfortable. The store also did not appear to be well maintained. The place looked dirty, and I noticed several items on the shelves that were expired but still being sold. That raised serious concerns about cleanliness and quality control. Because of this experience, I will not be returning. I hope management takes these issues seriously and improves both their customer service and store conditions. read more

I really wish this little market would receive some TLC. It's been a staple to our community and very convenient. Prices are also reasonable. I've been coming here for over 20 years. Makes me sad to think they can cut shut down. But maybe they don't care? Some products are nicely wrapped and they look fresh but today I saw so much mold. Got here 6min before closing just to get some MANG TOMAS for some lechon that a friend of mine gave and they the cashiers wouldn't let me in. This supermarket is so dirty and out dated. But then the area is also so dirty and sketchy. I've never been to this part of Pomona before. This location is kinda scary with so many hookers at the plaza. All the stores in this area has a metal gate. I will never come back unless it's emergency. Only will purchase pre-packaged food. This place is my go to place for all Vietnamese and Thai/Lao ingredients. They have a large selection of Thai & Lao curry paste & curry powder that I can't seem to find in most other Asian markets. They also have a variety of fresh herbs which are a must for most traditional Asian dishes. I also get my banana blossoms, green papayas and green mangos here. They also have free fish frying service and a decent selection of seafood. Unfortunately on weekends the lines can get quite long for the seafood department. Another downside to coming here is that this place is not the most clean place to shop at and you'll know by the strong smell as soon as you step inside the store. The store front can use a major over haul as well. The plaza itself is pretty old and run down. read more

Ok...I have been shopping here for years, maybe once a month to resupply our Asian foods. Tonight, while shopping there, one of the employees started cleaning the floor with a GAS driven machine! This was at 6:30, 30 minutes before closing. All the meat, fish stood open, all of the vegetables standing uncovered while this machine puked out gas fumes. Not only was it ridiculously loud, but to be running past all of the food stuffs, and customers, just isn't right. This is "my" store so do I call the county health inspector? Or the city? The hookers by the parking lot certainly add a flare to the shopping experience and it is not Hoa Binh's fault of course. I imagine, however, that if they phoned the police daily and complained, there would be a tighter grip on that problem there. read more

Whatever negative reviews posted here, don't get discouraged to come hBy far the most well stocked spices and Asian goodies around Inland Empire. Prices are affordable, you can find mostly everything East and West. Cleanliness is not their top priority, also the smell of this store is so far off how South Coast Plaza smells like. That's how you get your products at conveniently affordable to all. Trust me people... the snack cart on the weekends are the best. If you are worry about your diet, please just don't get them but also don't give them bad reviews. The fish people are the friendliest ever, don't forget to get your queue numbers, cutting somebody's else turn is just rude. If your elderly shoppers don't understand, please kindly explain these common decency. Overall...I have never have any complain about this place. I love all the cashier ladies, they may not understand you, but they are the nicest people. The place smells rotten, to the point some of the seafood smells horrible and I can't believe they sell it to people. The service seems nice but they all have a scowl on their faces that says otherwise. I would only recommend getting spices or vegetables but nothing else. It smells horrible. I've grown to like this supermarket this year. This place has the ambiance of chợ in Vietnam. I pay 2-3 visits a week since we live pretty close by. My usual buys are fried tilapia fish, we buy it to eat with fresh herbs and rolls with paper rice sheets. I also likes the fact that they do sell baby back ribs in smaller portions for affordable prices. That is good for people who like to buy in small amount fresh for their daily cooks. People who work in the meat and fish section seem to be nice and helpful every time I shop there. I love going there to shop in the morning, the energy is great and really reminds me lots of memories of Vietnam. read more

I don't understand why this place has such high reviews... Maybe I've been spoiled by the asian markets in my hometown, near fullerton, garden grove, and irvine, but this place looked and smelled like a dump!! Mind you, I know that asian markets are notorious for that fish smell, as well as their not so great organization/upkeep levels, (since many of these stores in Asian countries don't care about these qualities) but this place didn't even smell like the rotten fish that I'm used to being greeted with in these stores... Instead you're greeted with the smell of rotten fish & urine! First, the area you have to drive through to get here does not feel safe. There was three people jaywalking on the road, a lot of broken down stores, trash, graffiti, just not a pleasant area that I wouldn't want to be walking alone in at any time. Second, the lot that this is located in is shabby, and not well maintained. The stores next to this are closed down, and the plaza looks dingy. When you finally park, and ignore the sketchy graffiti on the walls, the isolated store, and unkept buildings, you walk into the store, and it smells like urine... Usually, asian markets smell like rotten fish, but this one made me breathe through my mouth so I didn't have to smell urine. This also made me wonder about the sanitation and quality of the meats they did sell. However, the one good this was that they do have a variety of asian foods (including Japanese, Vietnamese, Laos, Chinese, Thai, Filipino, Korean, Indian, and more) fresh produce, meats, and beer, and I was able to find what I was looking for, but I got out of there as fast as possible. (One star for their availability and wide selection of authentic asian items!!) The front check out ladies were speaking Vietnamese but knew English enough to check my items out and ask me if I was paying card, and if it had a chip. I'm going to make the drive somewhere else, even if it means 20+ miles back to my hometown because this place was not clean, smelled like urine, and is located in an area I wouldn't want to be alone in, and even with their variety of goods and fresh produce, I will only come back here if it's an emergency... thus my one star review. read more

The Hoa Binh info online says they close at 7pm. I drove there from far since I felt I could make it there before 7pm. I got there at 6:50pm and noticed the sign on the door says they close at 7pm. But they didn't let me in. They said it was already closed. Some employees were beginning to walk out and go home. I asked the security guard what time they close and he said 7pm. I showed him the time on my phone being 6:51pm. He then said, "Oh actually we close at 6:45." I wonder if the store owner knows about this. I'm a business owner myself and if my sign on the front door says we close at 7pm but my employees were leaving before 7pm I wouldn't be too happy about that. If in fact they do close at 6:45pm then they need to put that on their sign so that people like me won't end up driving all the way over there for nothing. read more

Growing up in the Inland Empire, this used to be the only Asian market around within a good radius. My mom comes here mainly for the Asian veggies you can't get elsewhere and Asian seasonings. Everything is really cheap, but you can't depend on it being fresh. I recommend checking the expiration date on anything you touch. I only get the soy milk when there is a fresh shipment, usually on weekends. Otherwise you don't know how long it's been sitting there. The fried catfish is also really good!! Just check with the guy from the fish department and make sure that the oil has been changed recently. And whatever you do, DO NOT get the bread!!! Even if it is warm, DO NOT get the bread!! I have seen old Vietnamese grannies feel up the bread on the inside to see which one is a good loaf -_-' so gross!! On weekends, they have a stand by the entrance of the supermarket selling fried goods. You can get eggrolls, batter dipped shrimp, batter dipped baby octopus, and Chinese donuts. The supermarket accepts credit card, but their stand by the entrance is cash only!! So if you want some egg rolls, you better get some cash back at the register. read more

I come here on a regular basis mostly for their packaged foods selection, which is HUGE! Not the healthiest meals to have, so use them sparingly. They carry almost anything you would expect to find in an Asian supermarket, however don't expect to find high-quality goods. I particularly like the Thai coffees and coconut waters they sell, as they're among the least processed. I would be a bigger fan of this place if it weren't for the extremely powerful "fishy" smell. And being that I'm not a seafood lover, it literally hits me walking through the doors and haunts my every step through the supermarket. The produce that they sell looks fresh and beautiful, but due to the smell of the place, all of the fruits I've ever bought here has a strange, unpleasant taste, even days after having bought it. This is the closest Vietnamese market to me compared to having to drive all the way to Garden Grove or San Gabriel area, I take what I can get and this has almost everything I need when it comes to cooking Vietnamese food. Yeahhhhhhh it is a bit ghetto here with homeless people, I watched a fight at the front entrance between two of them. But other than that I never had any issues so just be aware of your surroundings. It is a bit dingy inside but I don't notice a terrible fishy smell or anything like that. I mainly come here for the herbs I cannot get at any other asian markets and spices. I also like the bones here for pho as they contain more meat than ones at like 99 ranch. The workers are nice to my kids and goof around with them but the meat department, they don't quite understand anything other than quarter pounds and can get pretty impatient with you. Stuff here is inexpensive as well~! It's not the best market but I don't mind it at all. Again, I take what I can get especially when it comes to time and conveniency. 4 stars homies~ read more
